10 Cool Websites We Recommend
Thesixtyone makes music discovery fun again. You’ll like it because it’s like a safari for music junkies. Get rewarded for discovering new music and having discerning tastes. Don’t blame us if you stay up late looking for that one track that helps you level up. Oh yeah, they also have of one the best UI experiences of all the music sites we’ve been too.
Want to find out if you’re paying too much for that swanky little bachelor pad of yours? Check out Rentometer. It’s a nifty little tool that will tell you if you’ve got a steal of a deal or if you should probably renegotiate with your landlord. Luckily we live in a 10-bedroom mansion and don’t have to worry about any of that!
If it’s true that women love guys that can cook, then CookingforEngineers is a site you should visit. This site is awesome because it serves up recipes in a way that guys understand. It’s hard to explain, but you just have to trust us on this one. This is a must visit for every guy who likes or wants to cook.
If you’re looking for a great drink recipe or have one to share then ExtraTasty is your go-to site. You can create your own “My Bar” by entering all of the ingredients, mixers and garnishes you have at home and then let ExtraTasty tell you all the possible recipes you can make—cool. It also offers you the ability to submit your own drink recipes to the site and lets others rate your concoctions.
Hulu is a free online video service that offers viewers instant access to hit TV shows, movies and clips. Many sites have tried to accomplish the same feat, but it seems like Hulu is actually making it happen. Look out your window and tell me if you see the pigs flying too.
We are a big fan of saving money here at Ploomy and an even bigger fan of Mint. Mint allows you to take total control of your finances 24/7. It links all of your bank and credit card accounts and downloads the information for you every night. It serves up your transactions in a detailed, but non-confusing way. The catch: It offers tips on ways you can save money by signing up for other services. It’s a small price to pay if you ask me.
If CNN or Google News gets boring sometimes and you want something with more local flavor, then check out Topix. You can get news in virtually any city or town in the U.S. Topix links news from 50,000 sources to thousands of forums. If you’re looking for a new way to follow the news, this site should be added to your daily habits.
If you are one of the 500 million worldwide who access the Internet at a cybercafe, then Jooce might be for you. Think of Jooce as a cool platform which allows you to bring your entire digital life with you wherever you go on whatever computer you use. Keep the flash drives at home and stop lugging the laptop around because Jooce is all you need. The best part is that you can instantly share all your videos, pictures, and songs with friends.
We like Jumpcut because it allows you to upload, share and remix your videos in a cool way. The tools are feature-rich, intuitive, and so easy to use. We especially like how you can remix videos. From uploading to publishing to friends, Jumpcut makes online video easy.
If you’re looking for a new job or just want to see what’s currently out there, check out Indeed. This job search engine includes postings from many of the major job listing sites and newspapers. It gives you free instant access to millions of job opportunities. This is a cool site indeed. - ell0bo, on 05/20/2008, -7/+30I also have a fever, and the only remedy is more cow bell
- inactive, on 05/20/2008, -12/+35AMERICA! ***** YEAH!
- frieddonuts, on 05/20/2008, -1/+22I'm sorry but I don't think any site can possibly improve the cooking abilities of engineers :)
- jimmick, on 05/20/2008, -7/+2862
- GlennCase, on 05/20/2008, -3/+23Point taken.
My initial comment comes across as self serving, and that wasn't my intent. I was attempting to express that thesixtyone is an incredibly valuable website for artists and listeners alike. I have been exposed to a lot of great music there, and a good amount of people have given my material a chance too.
I'm not nearly as arrogant as you think I am, but I'll concede to 'stupid'. Sometimes I post before I think. - DteK, on 05/20/2008, -3/+19ploomy go boomy.
- frieddonuts, on 05/20/2008, -13/+27Music is my hot, hot sex.
- CA55IDY, on 05/20/2008, -1/+15Hang on, ur THEEE Glenn Case?
- yapper1200, on 05/20/2008, -0/+14The difference between Digg and thesixtyone is the point system, it makes sure that you only invest your points in songs you actually like so that they will do well. On Digg you can just digg as many things as you want. You don't even have to read them. On thesixtyone you have to listen to the song first.

10 http://www.indeed.co.uk/ job search engine. .com for America - GlennCase, on 05/20/2008, -24/+35thesixtyone is similar to what Digg would be like if it centered around music. I love that the music isn't interrupted as you go from page to page. I'm addicted to the site as a listener, and as an artist.
ROCK!
Glenn Case - theshizzler, on 05/20/2008, -1/+11Wow... finally one of these sites that doesn't have the internet staples that I'm used to visiting. Dugg for TheSixtyOne and Topix...so far.
- oxygen911, on 05/20/2008, -0/+10You sound like a college chick who just discovered Jack Johnson
- mhuggins, on 05/20/2008, -2/+12Also missing: RedTube, PornoTube, Megarotic, yuvutu
- CCoe, on 05/20/2008, -0/+9IP masking/cloaking FTW!
- Namingway, on 05/20/2008, -2/+11bumped your comment, because you reminded me that this clown was just self promoting
- pokedex, on 05/20/2008, -1/+10yeah, hulu is pretty cool, but i've been using it for months now. =) just wish there were more office episodes!
as for mint, i'm not too keen on giving a startup my financial data. call me old fashioned. - moodmd, on 05/20/2008, -3/+12thesixtyone rules
- jair428, on 05/20/2008, -1/+9its like he's singing to me!
- pokedex, on 05/20/2008, -0/+8wrong about hulu, but i do sort of agree on mint. i do, however, find it hilarious how you bitch about these sites when your own personal site on your profile sucks righteous balls.
- Aidanjalali, on 05/20/2008, -7/+15Google one doesn't work for me. This one did:
http://www.ploomy.com.nyud.net/2008/05/14/10-cool- ... - Pecnut, on 05/20/2008, -0/+7Try "Hotspot Shield" - it's an app which basically 'changes' your IP to an American one. I don't know if it works on anything other than Windows.
- pokedex, on 05/20/2008, -2/+9I love the idea of "cooking for engineers" -- perfect combo with the cats for engineers video ...I oddly wish that the site looked like a terminal window. :)
- 3leggedHorse, on 05/20/2008, -4/+10http://72.14.205.104/search?hs=sUq&hl=en&lr=&c2cof ...
actually that works after a couple of mins my bad. - cyberwiz01, on 05/20/2008, -2/+8I think you need a prescription for that.
- Gravey9, on 05/20/2008, -3/+9The sixty one is the gate way to some of the best music around.
- Alexcarrier, on 05/20/2008, -0/+6If only there was more female engineers.. /cry

Yarr. - timyjl, on 05/20/2008, -0/+5A crime many commit on digg.
- sammo, on 05/20/2008, -1/+6rentometer's worth a try, it saved me $100/mo. on an apartment when i was last looking for a place
- senorcool, on 05/20/2008, -1/+5I think I may have just become obsessed as well...
- kevdotbadger, on 05/20/2008, -4/+8Haha, you're being buried for doing math.
- MixMastaKooz, on 05/20/2008, -1/+5I'm a huge fan of thesixtyone.com. I've found some great music and supported some small artists. I also like how they give, what can best be termed as, "Experience Points." It's like an RPG for music (I'm almost up to level 7!). Friend me or listen to my stream (I'm still mixmastakooz there).
- artofwar420, on 05/20/2008, -0/+4You ask where Cracked.com is? Just go to the homepage.
- cmdrNacho, on 05/20/2008, -0/+4I still don't understand how people can trust Mint.com... when all that internet venture capitalist money runs out .. what is the first thing to be sold. Your spending habits, your info,.. etc. Would never trust a company like that.
