- Vst_kills, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Correction: Title should read 10 GB in under 10 Grams!. My apologies
- burndive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"Is it allot smaller?"
I hope to God this doesn't become an actual word somewhere down the line.
"Allot" is a verb. It means 'to assign into portions or lots.' "A lot" refers to one of those lots, usually a large one by implication.
"A lot" is two words, people. You might as well be saying "awholebunch" or, for those of us who prefer words that actually exist, "many," or in this case, "much." - dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1We really need to keep digg a little more objective. This includes phrases that give benefit to any products mentioned. If you want to mention the availability of a new product, let the readers decide if it's "kick ass" or not. But if we don't watch out, digg might just turn into a free advertising page for electronics companies.
- eliomar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0next will be a cell phone with mass mp3 capabilities. i see apple looking at that drive.
- streetlamp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ipod HDD's are a lot larger then these. Except for the nano which uses flash.
- TaylorTAP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is stupid and solid-state is much more promising.
Samsung is already planning 16GB & 32GB modules.
http://news.com.com/Flash+memory+closing+in+on+hard+drives/2100-1004_3-5860251.html
This is going to blow away that dumb drive.
Samsung's will survive a spin cycle will this? - mc1123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hmm, that does sound like a candidate for the next ipod's hdd
- BrianPuccio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+010GB != 10Gb
- 8ight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i have a really cheap 1gb drive i got on a deal last year... it's shaped just the same as those. on some systems i can not squeen the damn thing in the space allotted.
- thecoolestcow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0haha anth, nice reference to the SNL skit (ipod pequeño). this drive is pretty wicked. i'd like to get one, and i'd like to see where they can go with these.
- thenikola, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0eliomar :
It's not going in a phone for sure, think about how much abuse they take and you cant drop an ipod once or it's a brick. - Anth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wonder if this HD takes the place of the iPod Nano - the Nano becomes the new shuffle, and a new iPod (Piceño perhaps) takes the place at 8 and 10GB in a nano like case.
For reference, the Nano is 6.85mm thick, this HD is "only" 4.75mm thick. It seems quite possible...
Nano: 1GB $120; 2GB $150, 4GB $200, 8GB $230, 10GB $250, 30GB $300, 60BG $400 - Vst_kills, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah its a close race. Flash is really coming down in price but HDDs are getting super small
- wthulhu, on 08/29/2009, -0/+0Interesting press release. I'm a bit skeptical of it's ability to both sense being dropped and it's functionality while skydiving. Hey, they said they could do it, so they damn wll better be able to.
Dugg - Vst_kills, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Here is another story related to Micro hard drives.
http://www.imation.com/products/micro_hard_drive/ - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Slow as ***** no digg we need better than that not kick ass at all!
- Vst_kills, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah ass is now offical, because Everything I do is Official. and for ephekt. I do know what I'm talking about I have 16yrs tech experince AND I use a mac. Get a life and stop flaming articles you wish you had posted first.
- FuManchu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The point of this device?
Well, for a start, as a component in a small device. Flash memory currently does not have the same lifespan in terms of the number of write/erase/overwrite cycles as a HDD does.
Dig a computer the size of an mp3 player. Instead of a headset just for sound, the "sunglasses" function as a 3D visual screen.
Within 5 years you'll be buying 'em, Fu predicts. - freonchill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0planning and avaliable @ the local retail electronics store are completely different
they [samsung] said they already had 8gb chips the same physical size as the ones in the iPOD nano when it came out, are they on the street for retail or even OEM sale yet - no. will steve jobs release a 8/16gb ipod nano for $300/400 anytime soon, probably not. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why are we even messing around with mini-hard drives? Flash is the future undoubtedly... lets just GET THERE.
- Vst_kills, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Make sure to check out the PDF to get some physical details.
- MindTrigger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
So is "Ass" now officially ok to use in headlines? - zoltan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0that WOULD be cool if it was 10 gigabits per second but no i dont think this belongs ont he front
- MBesedic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This ***** is so f***** good.I am gonna buy this when it comes in Slovenia....
- Anchoret, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0> This is stupid and solid-state is much more promising.
I must say that these devices have always impressed me as a silly answer to a question nobody asked.
A few weeks ago, I was pricing the smaller capacity ones at Fry's and they were bigger, heavier, slower, more fragile and more expensive than single-unit USB flash of the same capacity.
What on earth is the point? Seriously. - RyeBrye, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If something 10 grams kicked me in the ass I don't believe I would feel it - unless it were traveling at a high speed. 30 m/s or so and I might feel something - but that would be more like "BB shooting in the ass" than "kicking ass."
- dmoffitt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0interesting, but i'd say it falls under "too little too late" - it would seem with 8GB flash already out there, there's little need.
- ephekt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0GB = gigabyte
Gb = gigabit
GBs = :tard:
At least know what you're talking about. - pseudojd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I'm all for a clean and concise digg. what I'm not for is public speaking/spelling lessons that we all Don't need. Regardless of if we can speak/spell. pm someone if you think their error is important enough. ( it's not ).
- Osiriscky3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0hold on lemme go clean my pants
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I don't it's anything to get all worked up about. Besides, it's a dupe.

Just because you think you're non-conformist doesn't mean you're not stupid. There are sometimes very good reasons to spell well and speak in certain ways. As I said, we have the integrity of digg to maintain; In case you didnt' know it already, it is pretty much solely run by its fan base, so, while there's some room for retarded spoutings from anti-establishment mongoloids, we have to remember that the relaying of information in an objective and accurate means is what will ultimately keep everything here afloat.
I don't know about you, but I'd hate for this site to turn into another slashdot with only moderators submitting content. - Zonkzor, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Does anyone know how this differs from the hard drives used in devices like the iPod? Is it allot smaller? I don't know much about either of them.
