- btschul, on 08/23/2008, -2/+31"Webcam" sort of implies that it is a constantly updated sort of thing. Not a collection of b&w photos sent back to earth every few weeks.
- stealthc, on 08/22/2008, -1/+28Next thing you know Mars will have a LiveJournal.
- trekie1701, on 08/23/2008, -0/+19Today an asteroid crashed into my skin, it felt like a boil popped as the ash rose into my atmosphere. OMG I totally forgot that I need to tivo tomorrow's episode of Carl Sagans' Cosmos. I love that show. Well I guess thats it for now keep in tune on my new webcam, stay up late for the nice stuff.
- Mars - thegrantman, on 08/23/2008, -1/+20Pretty anticlimatic.
- TVarmy, on 08/23/2008, -0/+17You know, if you just look at the night sky, you can get images at lightspeed latency.
- doublefelix, on 08/23/2008, -1/+15The feed doesn't seem to be as fast as the 'Visual Monitoring Cameras' I am used to.
- Decoy84, on 08/23/2008, -3/+14No live feed? That's not a "webcam". It's a ***** manually updated slide show. Seriously NASA....
- aljawad, on 08/22/2008, -3/+12WOW ... The solar system is getting smaller and smaller!
- wnightshade, on 08/22/2008, -5/+14THAT is what I call reality TV. Thanks, Phil!
- redline6800, on 08/23/2008, -0/+8That's the ESA, I believe. The European Space Agency.
But yeah, it's lame. - arkaycee, on 08/23/2008, -0/+8That's only the free version ... for three more cams, all color, and faster streaming, pay only $9.95/month automatically billed to your credit card.
- SillyDigger, on 08/23/2008, -4/+11That was a waste of time.
All of the images are over a year old. - MasterChi, on 08/23/2008, -0/+6Wait what? You guys are all complaining that this isn't live? Have you all forgotten how far away Mars really is? What you think there wireless signal can travel here in an instant? Wake up people.......true they were wrong to call it a webcam since its really just a camera but don't expect live it just isn't possible at the moment with the distance the data has to travel.
- pardonmedoug, on 08/23/2008, -4/+9not exactly THE WORLD's most distant, now is it?
- norbiu, on 08/23/2008, -0/+4Digg needs a new feature in the Comment Threshold: "0 bitching or less". I'm sick of these whiny pricks.
- overridemymind, on 08/23/2008, -0/+4"Be the first motha' ***** to meet a martian... and ***** it. People see me walkin' down the street -- say "There he goes -- homeboy ***** a martian once"

Sorry to say this but they all look like just a white circle on a black background. Pretty pointless if you ask me. - Kumah, on 08/23/2008, -2/+6Updated once a week manually...
No live stream...
Black and white...
Really grainy...
Wtf is this *****? I can get better from a cheap slutty camwhore from asia. - Dustmuffins, on 08/23/2008, -0/+4Well one thing's for sure, that's no moon.
- Oea420, on 08/23/2008, -0/+4So the ESA puts a pretty nifty feed from another planet over the internet (the technology involved.. it's kind of cool) and people complain about NASA lol
- Ragarnok, on 08/23/2008, -0/+4I'm still waiting to see if we are going to seen any bacteria returning in season 2..
- zemkacz, on 08/23/2008, -0/+3The signal does NOT take over 1 minute to get back from mars, They should update it atleast daily.
- JasonCox, on 08/23/2008, -0/+3If I put my Spock ears on, can I still win?
- jamdogg, on 08/23/2008, -0/+3Scrap the Mars mission - the pictures aren't pretty enough for $5$5$5.
- MrFlibble1, on 08/23/2008, -1/+4A color picture in this case would actually be of a LOWER quality than a black and white. This is because the CCDs used on spacecraft have to capture more light. They differ from the color CCDs that we are used to. To obtain a what we would call a color photograph, they use filters to block out other frequencies, and layer the 3 pictures together to produce color.

- MasterThief117, on 08/23/2008, -1/+3HOLY *****, IS THAT THE DEATH STAR?
- SirBruce, on 08/23/2008, -0/+2***** or GTFO!
- tjcs63, on 08/22/2008, -4/+5Cooool,
- chamberlanderic, on 08/23/2008, -2/+3You can always count on NASA to make your Geekiest computer rig look stupid
- bklny, on 08/23/2008, -0/+1I think all the space agency’s have the worst PR they fail miserably in peaking peoples interest
- str3ama, on 08/23/2008, -0/+1what's the refresh rate on it? Probably something really really high and understandably so because of the amount of resources and popularity something like this would entail.
For more webcams (not as profoundly universal as this one), you can try some here. Scroll down to webcam section there's quite a lot in there.
http://freetube.110mb.com/sitemap.php - breakaway, on 08/23/2008, -0/+1One thing I don't understand - why are these photos always shady and black and white? There must be a reason they don't get proper 'color' photos. Anyone care to explain?
- frositay, on 08/23/2008, -3/+4Wow. You'd think they'd be able to get at least colour =/. Did i just step into 1950?
- btschul, on 08/23/2008, -1/+2You don't have many friends, do you?
- danjwray, on 08/23/2008, -0/+1It's not a quote. It's a possessive apostrophe, and it's in the wrong place (unless we're talking about more than one world). The title is otherwise correct, but slightly ambiguous.
- PabloMac, on 08/24/2008, -0/+1Yeah, because bandwidth issues are easily solved with beefy modems.
- SlechtValk, on 08/31/2008, -0/+1The third one wasn't a friend of linagee ;)
- inactive, on 08/23/2008, -1/+2The speeders caught zipping thru our solar system will be sent notices of violation via sub-space. It is expected the new technology will not only save lives, but the revenue produced will help subsidize future camera placement.
186,000 miles per second. It's not just a good idea....it's the law. - Rhydeble, on 08/23/2008, -0/+1That's strange, I swear I killed 3 people when I invaded last time.
- MrApocalypse, on 08/23/2008, -0/+1Thats even worse quality than youtube.
- S5S5S5, on 08/23/2008, -0/+1Lol. I certainly enjoy the pics from mars rovers, but a low-res black and white pic of a white circle on a black background doesn't do it for me.
