- inactive, on 01/24/2008, -2/+39Breaking: The American government has released plans to begin constructing the Death Star.
- MindTrigger, on 01/24/2008, -1/+34The pussies commenting over at Gizmodo kill me. Listening to them complain about the project causing global warming, and being a "death trap" is like listening to the douche bags in our history who said things like the automobile and airplanes were impossible and unnecessary. If we left it up to these people, humans would still be walking the earth, barefoot, dragging our knuckles.
I would like to thank Branson and Scaled Composites for having the balls to push this project forward. It is going to take private companies to move human space exploration to the next level, and they are pioneers in my book. NASA, the orbital "U-haul" company, sure as hell isn't going to do it. - Shogi, on 01/24/2008, -1/+32Great, now they just need somewhere to go.
- gregdogum, on 01/24/2008, -2/+31If you had bothered reading, it said it in the article. $200,000.
- Hockey13, on 01/24/2008, -1/+29Sweet! That's just five years' salary after taxes!
- Mr.Gone, on 01/24/2008, -0/+28You know if they slapped a Taco Bell logo on the side, tickets would only be $200
- chetanthaker, on 01/24/2008, -1/+27naked air-hostesses ??
- tandy400, on 01/24/2008, -1/+26They already have. That's no moon...
- ghank, on 01/24/2008, -0/+21I call shotgun
- nicmakaveli, on 01/24/2008, -1/+22I'm pretty glad it's done by virgin, so we can rest assured that you'll have awesome games and a huge movie selection even in economy.
- ZeroFeetAbove, on 01/24/2008, -2/+19"How's about a press preview flight, hmm? Good reviews can be bought with free trips to space." Note: we just might turn off the pilot's monitors.
- typicalusername, on 01/24/2008, -1/+16Wow. I know that's your standard "America is evil" crack. But, that's ***** cool. I'm all for building it. Empire > Rebels.
- booshack, on 01/24/2008, -0/+15Correction: The Patriot Star.
- psyber, on 01/24/2008, -1/+16I have always dreamed about going into space. Definitely something I will do before I die. Even if I have to spend 40+ years of retirement on a ticket. Then again, it might just be affordable in 20 or 30 years. What is life without a little adventure? I cannot wait.
- inactive, on 01/24/2008, -2/+17"I think he's attempting re-entry, sir."
- BLAM8, on 01/24/2008, -1/+15$200k.
- HBNDonut, on 01/24/2008, -0/+13The only question that science still has to answer is how naked breasts will behave in zero gees.
- gummih, on 01/24/2008, -2/+15Good news everybody!
- JasonHilton, on 01/24/2008, -4/+17Eh, it seems they edited the article to include the price after my comment.
- borez, on 01/24/2008, -0/+13If it's anything like their broadband, it'll fall out of the sky the moment you start downloading the in-flight movie
- hydroplane, on 01/24/2008, -0/+13I'm holding out for an X-wing.
- KraftDinner101, on 01/24/2008, -0/+12They only go sub-orbit, so you'll be staying around Earth.
- tandy400, on 01/24/2008, -2/+14To put the mile high club to shame... the 200,000 mile high club.
- funkytaco, on 01/24/2008, -0/+12Multi pass.
- Mudger, on 01/24/2008, -0/+12Launched from a "Mothership" at mach 4, 321,000 feet and then re-enter at 6 g's. *****!
- atdakore, on 01/24/2008, -0/+10you pay attention to mainstream media? wow!
- noahhoward, on 01/24/2008, -0/+9Yeah go to college! That's just makes it... about five years salary after taxes!
/*went to college, makes $50k* - funsac22, on 01/24/2008, -1/+9Will I be able to use my cell phone in flight or will it screw up the equipment?
- blademanx, on 01/24/2008, -0/+7Its "Good news, everyONE." *Ahem*
- MikeinLoFi, on 01/24/2008, -0/+7what happened to that ***** reality TV show where the winner would become the new CEO of Virgin Inc?
- VenDrake, on 01/24/2008, -1/+7How about they strap me to a Virgin and put the t-shirt on the rocket? Now that's a ride!
- ikrit2006, on 01/24/2008, -0/+6Spend all of your retirement money, odds are you won't need it afterwards anyway.
- twk3, on 01/24/2008, -0/+6Only if your using Virgin Mobile as your provider
- solid12345, on 01/24/2008, -1/+7Let's start a religion around him.
- scott12087, on 01/24/2008, -0/+6I call a window seat!
- MilitantRabbit, on 01/24/2008, -1/+6I can't wait until they adapt this for long-haul flights to international locales. Nothing better than a 14-hour flight to Tokyo trimmed to one and a half hours by parabola-ing into space.
- coolbru, on 01/24/2008, -0/+5Um, don't you think you'd be busy looking out of the window, given that the flights won't take long?
- crila, on 01/24/2008, -1/+6SPACE VIRGINS!
- coldcarbon, on 01/24/2008, -0/+5I don't think there going towards the moon. I think just to orbit. 200,000 miles is far. Outer space starts at only 62miles up.
- pcpimpster, on 01/24/2008, -1/+6Cant they just strap me to a rocket and be done with it? I'd be happy to wear a Virgin tshirt during my ride.
- breadfred, on 01/24/2008, -0/+5Freedom Star?
- notthemama, on 01/24/2008, -1/+5How is this a scam?
- Malchus89, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4So, yeah, there's nowhere to go...yet....
- NSMike, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4Another 50,000 give or take and you'll be on the moon.
- lebruf, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4I'm going to book a flight on a really busy weekend and hopefully get bumped so I can get some vouchers.
A couple hundred thousand dollars worth. - gummih, on 01/24/2008, -1/+5...of course, your spaceship will be held together by duct tape.
http://gizmodo.com/assets/images/gallery/4/2008/01 ... - coldcarbon, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4Thats not duct tape, Thats NASA Grade tape. You have to pay 100$ more for the same result.
- parasitewasp, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4Actually a good idea for raising money, maybe enough to build a fleet of spaceships. Bring down the cost, and add more more to r&d.
- MacParrot, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4Maybe you can name ONE air/spacecraft that is designed for powered controlled flight that would survive tumbling at supersonic speed? That also wouldn't leave any passengers looking like library paste afterwards? Pushing the envelope of space is about risk. They've designed a craft capable of near orbit, that is recoverable with darn near every piece re-usable. NASA hasn't managed it yet and won't until someone really makes them look bad.
Go for it Virgin -
