- Cyre, on 10/10/2007, -41/+600That is so fake...
- Falldog, on 10/10/2007, -13/+327I'm undecided. It's either a weather balloon or a J.J. Abrams feature.
- rabidbob, on 10/10/2007, -3/+271With all this viral marketing, if aliens ever did land they'd be ignored as a publicity stunt ...
- NeoRicen, on 10/10/2007, -46/+283Are you people ***** retarded!? It's CG, not even that good CG at that!
- oOLiquidNightOo, on 10/10/2007, -19/+232yeah, there's absolutely no way this 30 second clip could be fake.
- ryanmerket, on 10/10/2007, -2/+174Too bad it has been thunderstorming in the Dominican Republic for about a week now...
- darkened, on 10/10/2007, -10/+179I agree this is some kind of viral marketing ploy I guarantee you.
- brundlefly76, on 10/10/2007, -8/+156This is fake here's why...
There are suddenly TONS of *outstanding* videos JUST like this one on YouTube, supposedly from New York also - submitted minutes ago - however, there is NOTHING anywhere else, just YouTube. Somehow millions have seen them (if you see the Brooklyn videos that would HAVE to be the case), but there is nothing on the news.
This is definitely viral marketing for the new JJ Abrahms movie, referred to as 'cloverfield', which has been rumored as a 'clash between aliens and gods on earth'.
However, I cannot wait to see this film now - what great marketing! - thecorch, on 10/10/2007, -18/+160I'm so disappointed that this made it to the front page. It's clearly viral marketing (probably for Halo 3?).
Just because someone's gone to the trouble of going to an exotic location and getting convincing voice actors doesn't make it more legit -- what if the company that was hired to create this video was actually BASED in the Caribbean?
WOW digg. - TheCount, on 10/10/2007, -1/+124They're probably just delivering some packages for Planet Express, no big deal.
- bigdaddyk, on 10/10/2007, -12/+108If that was real it would have been on the news about 10 seconds afterward.
- frozenyoghurt, on 10/10/2007, -12/+100I hope like hell that that was real and the aliens are coming to earth to kill everyone
- LuciusBrutus, on 10/10/2007, -7/+93They could just live there and so have nothing much to do.
- readme, on 10/10/2007, -5/+87CG. With today's 3D tools, someone could render that in their bedroom. If it's real, let them submit the original material to some authority to verify.
- fragsta, on 10/10/2007, -8/+82Viral marketing for Halo 3?
- rolfv, on 10/10/2007, -7/+78Star Wars was a documentary and the events happened in real time!
- richerrrds, on 10/10/2007, -7/+74Those aliens abused me. Sexually.
- Akaji, on 10/10/2007, -4/+69Alien: "Live long and prosp-"
Human: "A Star Trek promotion? Oh come on, no one likes Star Trek anymore." *walks away* - Heggy, on 10/10/2007, -4/+68Here's why I think it's fake. Look at the motion blur as it passes over them at the beginning. It's obviously just a quick fix solution, because rendering good motion takes a long time. Overall, the lighting and modelling is good, but it has that certain something which makes it seem fake. This is viral marketing, or a short film by a fairly competent 3d studio. 3d isn't quite as hard as many people think. Just requires a fair bit of time.
- gamlidek, on 10/10/2007, -4/+66The whole video would require more time to render the "UFO"s.
-gam - zenlunatic, on 10/10/2007, -2/+62The cool thing is that in several years this will be real-time footage from an actual video game.
- dusty311, on 10/10/2007, -69/+127well if its fake then thats the best UFO hoax video i've ever seen!
i'd like to see the whole video. - JCSaint, on 10/10/2007, -1/+55There's a comedian whose name I forget but he said that if there are aliens, we must be the Alabama of the Universe.
Alien 1: You're lost aren't you?
Alien 2: No, I'm not. Hold on.
Alien 1: Oh no! It's earth! Pull up, pull up!
Alien 2: Do you think they saw us? - weeeezzll, on 10/10/2007, -5/+58Ummm...it seems fake because its TWO ***** ALIEN SPACE SHIPS!!!!!! If intelligent life forms made spaceships and came to visit our planet and flew so close that everyone could see them, then they would likely have made some attempt at communicating with us. Why would intelligent life forms come all the way here just to buzz some idiots on a beach?
- KMye, on 10/10/2007, -6/+56I thought it was pretty fair cg, and creating mulitple videos from different locations in the Carribean was decent in the viral department. But, the answer to your question is: yes, they are ***** retarded.
- mntalkase, on 10/10/2007, -8/+50The kids on YouTube are calling it Halo 3 marketing. Makes sense to me.
- Asvetic, on 10/10/2007, -4/+45This is listed under the Science section? Why? It's clearly someone's 3D modeling work, and should be listed under Design.
In that context, it's very well done. Almost too clean for someone accidentally filming UFOs. - WarpFox, on 10/10/2007, -9/+49It's fake because no one in hati owns a digital video camera.
- Double0Doug, on 10/10/2007, -3/+38I’m not sure I’d attribute this to Cloverfield, but I agree it seems like marketing to me.
- JCSaint, on 10/10/2007, -2/+35Oh, you convinced me. I'll go prepare for the invasion after work.
- pbaehr, on 10/10/2007, -2/+34Your pants-***** threshold is set a little low there, buddy.
- thcobbs, on 10/10/2007, -6/+38As they are flying off, these look like the Cylon Raiders from the original Battlestar Galactica series.
- cozb, on 10/10/2007, -6/+38not only that, since this is a "home" video, why isn't there any excessive zooms???
- Starch, on 10/10/2007, -9/+39Are you guys actually experts, or work in CGI? Or are you just giving your amateur opinion?
- TaintedWisdom, on 10/10/2007, -17/+47Not only will this have to be the most convincing CG ever, but did anyone pay attention how the palm tree's are fairly steady, and once the "ships" approach they actually cause them to move (you can also hear the sound from what appears to be a shirt/jacket etc.). Call me nuts, but that would mean they animated the palm trees as well! Is so precise it occurs right after the ships cross each tree (just like it should be, as the air drag is felt once the area is cleared, pertaining to each object/tree that is) If CG, then "BOWS DOWN" best video ever.
- internetcoward, on 10/10/2007, -12/+40Faaaaake. proobably made by the same animator who made that WTC ufo clip... was't it some guy from lucas arts? I forget the story.
- covertbadger, on 10/10/2007, -5/+31Yes, because no news channel has ever mentioned the war in Iraq.
- Schug, on 10/10/2007, -0/+24The flash of light you saw in the sky was not a UFO. Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the light from Venus.
- inactionman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+23This pisses me off. When our alien overlords finally DO arrive we'll just assume it's a viral for a new Bungie game. Over unconcerned response to their warning shots will surely mean instant annihalation for our species. Don't the idiots behind this realise the implications of their actions?
- Zuggy, on 10/10/2007, -3/+25I actually thought it was awesome CG for a personal project, but definitely CG. You'd be able to tell better if you had a higher res version then the one on Youtube.
- NiX0n, on 10/10/2007, -2/+24Alien Bodies or it didn't happen.
- pdbailey, on 10/10/2007, -2/+24It also has features that CG people love putting in "hand held" shots such as the focus getting better and worse and varying far too quickly. The worst case of this is at the end when it zooms in on the two lights and then zooms out and goes out of focus, but just for a second. Zooming doesn't change what is in focus (which would be infinity at that distance) and there is no reason a auto focus would try to back it off with only far away palms on the edge of the frame. In fact, at that point, the whole image is blurred, suggesting a quick job in the post processing--i.e. why not just blur the CG? Why blur the palms so much too?
- tkstock, on 10/10/2007, -11/+32If you notice, there are about 5 other equally amazing fakes. The ships are taken out of Halo 3.
- sjbdallas, on 10/10/2007, -0/+21What did we ever do to the aliens? Oh, except autopsy them every time we catch one.
- Jumboto, on 10/10/2007, -0/+20Why be disappointed. It only took 30 seconds to watch and it was pretty cool.
- chris9902, on 10/10/2007, -4/+23so you're saying that Aliens from an unkown planet flying around is more believable than CG and Adobe After Effects?
- LecherousVenom, on 10/10/2007, -1/+20That *is* the whole video. And I agree - best hoax UFO footage yet! Mad propz to the CG team!
- sykotik, on 10/10/2007, -3/+21Presumably, if they're alien, they wouldn't be using "rockets" or "turbo-engines." Rather, they'd probably be using some sort of advanced "anti-gravity" device or something along those lines. Why? Because if they are alien (which I honestly believe this is either that new "Cloverfield, mystery trailer" thing, or possibly Halo 3) they most likely came from a considerable distance, one that wouldn't be likely or perhaps even possible, with current human rocket technology.
- ironrex, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18I think a more interesting question than whether it is fake or not is:
In an era when our CG can emulate anything so well, if there is/was ever a real UFO video, would anyone believe it? - UGM2099, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18If you think this is so terrible you must be creating some truly awesome work. Post some links or something.
