Station, Moon and Earth
nasa.gov — Framed by components of the International Space Station, a full moon is visible in this view above Earth's horizon and airglow.

- mark076h, on 03/28/2008, -1/+38it this was not from nasa.gov i would have said photoshop
- DanBoodro, on 03/28/2008, -2/+8NASA uses Photoshop...it's all a lie.
- shamess, on 03/28/2008, -0/+3Nasa does use Photoshop; I read somewhere that they made Mars look redder in one of their releases because the public refused to believe it's actually more of a pink... Or something.
- longbow486, on 03/28/2008, -0/+9the moon looks too perfect, but thats what you get with no air
- OneLess, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1Well there's not _no_ air. There's enough to degrade orbits over long periods of time.
- rspeed, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1There isn't enough air to distort the light, though.
- OneLess, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1Well there's not _no_ air. There's enough to degrade orbits over long periods of time.
- h4mx0r, on 03/28/2008, -2/+1Actually...
The reflections are all wrong. Shopped.- piesforyou, on 03/28/2008, -0/+2Yeah, and the flag is flapping
- DanBoodro, on 03/28/2008, -2/+8NASA uses Photoshop...it's all a lie.
- sagat, on 03/28/2008, -9/+2The images section was a great addition but now I think we might need a "NASA Images" section. It's relentless.
- csstudent, on 03/28/2008, -0/+8I'd much rather see NASA pictures than all of the Obama spam on this site.
- nesibus, on 03/28/2008, -2/+17I see a station....cheese...and earth.
- Ibox, on 03/28/2008, -0/+4OM NOM NOM NOM
- Arisian, on 03/28/2008, -5/+20hmmm, the moon looks like it was put there in M$ Paint...
- Djchicken, on 03/28/2008, -1/+2Well, that's no moon...
- physicsguy, on 03/28/2008, -1/+2http://xkcd.com/307/
- rspeed, on 03/28/2008, -0/+2That's because there's no atmosphere to fuzz the edges.
- mrASSMAN, on 03/29/2008, -0/+3Actually it's because you aren't zoomed in.. click the image (in firefox). The auto-resize is unaliased so it causes jagged edges.
- Djchicken, on 03/28/2008, -1/+2Well, that's no moon...
- boydrew, on 03/28/2008, -5/+0It looks almost to good/crisp to be real. Amazing.
- phatcat77, on 03/28/2008, -7/+4Yeah that moon is pretty obviously put in there after the photo was taken. They could have at least tried to make not look so jagged.
- dajuggernaut, on 03/28/2008, -2/+1thats cause the moon is not perfectly round. plus all the craters would cast shadows around the edges
- leb0wski, on 03/28/2008, -0/+9Uh, it looks jagged because you're viewing the image shrunk down in your browser to fit within the window. Click to zoom and expand the image to it's original size and the moon is nice and round.
- FaithclubDotNet, on 03/28/2008, -2/+11Thats no Battle Station
- dajuggernaut, on 03/28/2008, -2/+16Thats no moon....
- Connormac44, on 03/28/2008, -7/+2Nasa's a hoax? Get a life already, christ.
- Kromel, on 03/28/2008, -8/+0I don't know about you guys, but that is no Moon....
- DonkeyTonk, on 03/28/2008, -11/+4Hmmm. People still going on about fake moon landings? This very short vid explains in lamens term why the moon landing was not a hoax

and way to go, mankind! - MysticalMrBiggZ, on 03/28/2008, -6/+2I find your lack for realism of this picture ... disturbing!
- verynegative, on 03/28/2008, -3/+0Its a trap!
- micahwilli, on 03/28/2008, -0/+11the moon is crisp & the rest is not because that's what was in FOCUS. Not everybody takes pictures with a cell phone.
- gegroff, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1I'm not saying it's shopped, but some of the space station is crisp and in focus also.
- rspeed, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1Google "depth of field"
This is very easy when you have decent amounts of light.
- rspeed, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1Google "depth of field"
- guibom, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1It's not the focus that bothers me, but the lack of noise on the moon.
- iFrikkenR, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1In focus or not, there is NO visible photographic noise on the moon. it's clearly not part of the original photo unless they seriously enhanced it
Look at the earth atmosphere in the distance - also at infinity focus. it has visible grain- majordanger, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1Take the time to right click and Save Image.. then open a zoom in..There is little noise on the moon image because of it's brightness, if anything the moon image is slighlty overexposed.
- gegroff, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1I'm not saying it's shopped, but some of the space station is crisp and in focus also.
- Nubli, on 03/28/2008, -1/+0Apparently that is no moon. Who would have thought? I sure didn't.
- directive0, on 03/28/2008, -3/+9That moon's a shoop. I can tell from the craters and from seeing many a natural satellite in my time.
- majordanger, on 03/29/2008, -0/+2In my opinion..this photo is legit and the moon is really in this photo. NOT photo-shopped.
The little preview shown in your browser may take liberties with the reduced resolution JPG creating jagged artifacts.
The moon is captured after it rose above the earth's atmosphere and so it appears stark and white. Since there is no
atmosphere on the moon itself, the division between black space and white moon surface appears unnaturally stark
to our earth based eyes. We are used to seeing haze or atmospheric effects on anything further than 20 miles.
Please download and view the entire FULL JPG. Zoom in and see for yourself.
It also appears to be legit just based on the NASA.gov source and the date stamp of the file name , and the fact the 21st of March was a full moon, and ST123 was in orbit and attached to the station at the time . With a little more research into the file name , you should be able to uncover the details such as direction and exact time this photo was taken and position of the station/Shuttle complex..
- nonrate, on 03/29/2008, -3/+1he image of the moon looks cropped and faked. Not saying it is, but this image is definitely not natural looking.
- AppleGeorge, on 03/30/2008, -0/+1That's because the image isn't zoomed in dumbass.
- kahlessreborn, on 03/29/2008, -4/+1Very crappy picture
- WYendrys, on 03/30/2008, -0/+0Like guibom said, it's not the focus that's making it seem photoshopped. It's the lack of noise on the moon. Depth of field won't cause there to be a lack of noise on the focused part.
- Johnny1029, on 04/07/2008, -0/+0I don't know who keeps saying this is real but I've delt with Photoshop a lot over the past 3 years and with the right images this could be recreated easily. I could recreate this easily. The moon looks completely fake and doesn't even look legitimate. Isn't there suppose to be any stars too. Shouldn't you be able to see them as well. All I know is that moon is rediculous looking.
- macalaire, on 04/11/2008, -0/+0what was that
