- jquipp, on 06/11/2008, -9/+73At least Pluto get acknowledgement for something. Question, what then will Uranus be called ... an Assoid?
- theshalit, on 06/12/2008, -4/+53now they are just making ***** up
- dOOBiEx213, on 06/12/2008, -2/+48Man, they're acting like they hurt Pluto's feelings when they demoted it.
- jcpcks, on 06/12/2008, -6/+43LEAVE PLUTO ALONE!!!
- XFi6, on 06/12/2008, -0/+32YOU'RE LUCKY IT'S STILL EVEN IN ORBIT FOR YOU BASTARDS!!!!
- 1dog, on 06/12/2008, -2/+31Pluto not being a planet anymore, that's really Goofy
- ANT1138, on 06/12/2008, -2/+29A hemorrhoid.
- Ender008, on 06/12/2008, -2/+27They hurt my feelings.
- Doomsan, on 06/12/2008, -0/+22"In my times Pluto was a planet..."
- Meursault, on 06/12/2008, -1/+19"Now they're just being dicks," said a visibly upset Pluto.
- TheDuckHat, on 06/12/2008, -2/+17I believe it's Urectum
- dmkirt, on 06/12/2008, -1/+14First, Pluto is kicked out of the 'Planets Only Club"
And now they start calling it names! Sheesh!
Poor Pluto! - AtheismFTW, on 06/12/2008, -2/+15Plutoid? So Pluto is now defined as being "Pluto-resembling"?
Lame tautology is lame. - completerobot, on 06/12/2008, -0/+12I see what you didn't do there.
- inactive, on 06/12/2008, -3/+14Pluto is my favorite planet.
- matt510, on 06/12/2008, -1/+12Pluto is still in the category of "Dwarf Planet" but is now also in the subclass of transneptunian Dwarf Planets called "Plutoids."
Here is the link to the IAU press release: http://iau.org/public_press/news/release/iau0804/ - flmumb, on 06/12/2008, -0/+10Screw that. I'm still convinced that there are 9 planets.
- sonar1, on 06/12/2008, -1/+11I'm gonna call a fat bitch a putoid.
- Tawney, on 06/12/2008, -1/+10Pluto will always be a planet in my heart. :'c
- debuggercll, on 06/12/2008, -3/+12YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT IT'S BEEN GOING THROUGH!!
- ender52, on 06/12/2008, -1/+9Everything's name was made up at some point.
- matt510, on 06/12/2008, -1/+8They haven't changed their mind every few months. In August of 2006 the classified Pluto as a Dwarf Planet (since it didn't fit well with the planet classification). Now, almost two years later, they have just added it to a subclass. It is STILL a Dwarf Planet (meaning they didn't change their mind), just also in a sublcass on transneptunian dwarf planets.
AND, if you read the article you would have noticed, the IAU promised to make this subclassification back when they made Pluto a dwarf planet. - BugMeNot2, on 06/12/2008, -0/+6I am agree with
- Farmer77, on 06/12/2008, -1/+7Poor Pluto...
First they declassified it as a planet.
Then they called it 134340 Pluto
Then went further calling it a dwarf planet.
Now the IAU is calling it Plutoid?
Leave Pluto alone, you meanies!!! - ultraJesus, on 06/12/2008, -1/+7Life goes on.
- adam00f, on 06/12/2008, -1/+6Puto.
- wisam74us, on 06/12/2008, -1/+6Looks nice name for me
- matt510, on 06/12/2008, -1/+5Pluto IS still considered a dwarf planet, it is just in a subclass of that class now.
- debuggercll, on 06/12/2008, -0/+4Like in that one movie.
- inactive, on 06/12/2008, -5/+9Plutoid = Pluto-Sized Asteroid. It makes sense to use one short word, although it sounds funny. Ha ha!!!
Obviously they don't want Pluto called dwarf planet either, because that would make big asteroids found in the future dwarf planets too. Dwarfs may be small but they are not less than 10% of your size. - daRoach, on 06/12/2008, -0/+4What the hell? Pluto isn't a planet?
- matt510, on 06/12/2008, -0/+4No, the IAU defined "planet." Pluto didn't match so was reclassified as "dwarf planet."
- psion01, on 06/12/2008, -0/+3It'll be interesting to see what happens in August 2009 after the next IAU General Assembly meeting.
- completerobot, on 06/12/2008, -0/+3The Committee on Committees on Small Body Nomenclature Nomenclature.
- Zachariah, on 06/12/2008, -2/+5Mine too. After all, it can't be a dwarf PLANET if it's not a planet.
- debuggercll, on 06/12/2008, -0/+3Hey man, whatcha workin on today? Deltoids?
Nah, plutoids, bra. - Aidje, on 06/12/2008, -0/+2Firefly/Serenity? If so, I love you.
- versualize, on 06/12/2008, -0/+2Everyone sees spelling mistakes. Not everyone is ***** enough to point them out. Do you get off on that or something?
- sherifftruman, on 06/12/2008, -0/+2Sure, the Committee on Small Body Nomenclature named transneptunian dwarf planets, but who named the Committee on Small Body Nomenclature?
- TeamoSupremo, on 06/12/2008, -0/+2I still love it the same. Dwarfism and everything.
- marx2k, on 06/12/2008, -1/+3God it just keeps getting worse and WORSE!
- Entroper, on 06/12/2008, -0/+2There's no words there! I don't know what that means! Plutoid? What does that mean?
- grungegbunny, on 06/12/2008, -0/+2Compromise at last!
- matt510, on 06/12/2008, -0/+2Charon (and Nix and Hydra) are satellites of Pluto. Pluto and Eris are currently the only Plutoids (with many more to follow).
- SirBruce, on 06/12/2008, -0/+2They invented a reason
That's why it stings
They don't think you matter
Because you don't have pretty rings
I keep telling you I don't care
I keep saying there's one thing they can't change
I'm your moon
You're my moon
We go round and round
From out here, it's the rest of the world that looks so small
Promise me
You will always remember who you are
Let them shuffle the numbers
Watch them come and go
We're the ones who are out here
Out past the edge of what they know
We can only be who we are
It doesn't matter if they don't understand
I'm your moon
You're my moon
We go round and round
From out here, it's the rest of the world that looks so small
Promise me
You will always remember who you are
Who you were
Long before
They said you weren't
Anymore
Sad excuse for a sunrise
It's so cold out here
Ice and silence and dark skies
As we go round another year
Let them think what they like, we're fine
I will always be right here next to you
I'm your moon
You're my moon
We go round and round
From out here, it's the rest of the world that looks so small
Promise me
You will always remember who you are - matt510, on 06/13/2008, -0/+2They are similar in size, but Pluto is still a factor of 10 times more massive. Some consider it a double system, but most do not. And officially it is not.
- inactive, on 06/12/2008, -0/+2This is an outrage! I demand Pluto be returned to proper planetary status!
- bosssmiley, on 06/12/2008, -0/+2Hopefully the Mi-Go will abduct all the Pluto-deniers in the IAU for probing and testicle electrification.
"Say it with me you primitive two-legger: Yuggoth is, and always has been, a planet." - alpha88, on 06/12/2008, -2/+4Pluto may have been left out of the solar system's little gang, but now he's moved on to bigger and better things, as a role model for all dwarf planets. So touching.
- netant, on 06/12/2008, -0/+2Charon does not rotate around Pluto. Technically, Charon is not a satellite of Pluto. Charon and Pluto rotate around the same point of space. Its among the many reasons the IAU RIGHTLY declassified Pluto as a planet. Its an Kuiper belt object, like Quaoar, Sedna or Eris.
