- zaldoe, on 06/01/2008, -0/+103hack the RIAA.com or whatever screwed up site they have already ... who would do such a thing to Phoenix
- thedaylights, on 06/01/2008, -0/+70The hacker linked to their own site? Lame. I would have posted pictures showing evidence of a martian civilization.
- twvance, on 06/01/2008, -2/+52Useless story with no details. Garbage.
- inactive, on 06/01/2008, -2/+51Actual message extracted from the hacked website:
" WEZ FROM MARS! WII GUNNA B FIRIN TEHR LAZERZ PEWPEW " - DeskFlyer, on 06/01/2008, -1/+49Screenshot?
- shifty2, on 06/01/2008, -1/+40it would have been more impressive to hack the actual Phoenix on Mars FROM Earth.
That would have to be the most epic hack ever! - Thezeppelin62, on 06/01/2008, -0/+39Who does that?
- SEANWOOKIE, on 06/01/2008, -1/+40Anyone see if they were on steroids?
- baylat, on 06/01/2008, -1/+38Statistically, china.
- danharlow, on 06/01/2008, -0/+30No real hacker would do this to the Phoenix lander site. Whoever did this was no better than a Nigerian 401 douche.
- Gogogo111, on 06/01/2008, -0/+27He was behind 7 proxies.
- shifty2, on 06/01/2008, -0/+23lolcatz are from Mars and faildogs are from Venus
- inactive, on 06/01/2008, -0/+22The moon landings were shot in a soundstage on Mars.
- gcman94, on 06/01/2008, -4/+25someone has a lot of time on their hands who is really bored and has no life...
- gutistg, on 06/01/2008, -2/+22Bit much, don't you think?
- bennovw, on 06/01/2008, -0/+17People who mug 89 year old ladies?
- inactive, on 06/01/2008, -11/+27Kill him if he's caught. I believe in hacking, but not in vandalizing a scientific forum on the Net.
- afx1, on 06/01/2008, -0/+16i heard he was traced to a brazilian rainforest
- rjhomuth, on 06/01/2008, -1/+16Pssh, come on. I'd only be impressed if someone hacked into the actual lander.
- purple, on 06/01/2008, -3/+17Anyone else notice how the mission logo looks like firefox?
- ivanisavich, on 06/01/2008, -0/+13It was the martians.
- Octanus, on 06/01/2008, -0/+12Hackers?
- Yonson, on 06/01/2008, -0/+11The IP of the hacker was traced back to New Jersey.
- a1cd, on 06/01/2008, -0/+10I could understand if this was some RIAA, mediadefender or something.. but come on, this is about something going to a different PLANET, kind of a big step for the human race no? I mean... did the people who did this think they would be the toast of the internet if they somehow screwed up something this big? (Yes I know they just hacked the website)
- libkarl2, on 06/01/2008, -0/+10Agreed. Definitely lacking in cowbell.
- searcade, on 06/01/2008, -0/+10He was from an island which moved somewhere random and now they cannot locate it!
- searcade, on 06/01/2008, -0/+9People who make Aristocrats Jokes?
- kenvsryu, on 06/01/2008, -0/+9the red dudes with spears?
- mcottier, on 06/01/2008, -0/+8I wonder if it would be hard to hack into the lander? I am sure security was not the first thing on their minds.
- MLisa, on 06/01/2008, -0/+8LOL- My Dad has just, in the last few years, started throwing out the rocket scientist line. He was an engineer, but takes great pleasure in NOW saying "I'm a rocket scientist and you're not."
He likes to use this line on outsourcing people in India, waiters who screw up his food order and idiots from the cable company.
The line is true, but we do have fun with it. - haochi, on 06/01/2008, -0/+8Transformer did it.
- viciouspictures, on 06/01/2008, -0/+8normally i just roll my eyes at hacker "attacks" like this, but the jerk behind this is a serious TOOL. So he gets an eye roll AND a wag of the finger.
- Jaysunli, on 06/01/2008, -0/+8Horrible article and lame hackers.
- Krumm, on 06/01/2008, -0/+8They should have done a photoshop job of a lander photo, and 'LIFE FOUND' as the headline... something like a footprint in one of the pictures.
Would have been removed in the same timeframe, but remained a conspiracy / coverup theory for years to come.. - bluntphallus, on 06/01/2008, -0/+8If that's true, then it's very cool indeed.
"My dad is a doctor. What about yours?"
"He's a rocket scientist, fool."
"... You win." - MLisa, on 06/01/2008, -7/+15Hi- My dad is retired from NASA - a rocket scientist- LOL.. He is 90 now. We follow all this stuff. He has 3 PC's, a new pick up truck and all the techno gadgets. He has original moon shot/mars pix. Like a home museum. Anyhow, it is great to say 'My dad is a rocket scientist!" Today is my birthday so please wish me well...

...Mars! - DjOverEZ, on 06/01/2008, -0/+7How does this benefit anyone?
- qhiiyr, on 06/01/2008, -2/+9Buried for lack of information in the article.
- inactive, on 06/01/2008, -0/+7There's always some unparented punk to ruin it for everyone else. That was the ***** Mars Lander site, leave it alone and go hack the Gibson or something.
- virtualball, on 06/01/2008, -0/+7*asteroids?

- McShr3dd3r, on 06/01/2008, -0/+6Doesn't make any sense. Why would a Hacker link to a press release about Google and Nasa teaming up, unless something happened? All the news stories are putting out that the "hacker" linked back to his own site which is untrue, unless said hacker's real name is Google.
I think either a nerdy hoax by the Mars Lander team, or a tin foil hat-wearing-alien finding whistle blower of sorts from within the Mars Lander team itself.
So If I understand correctly, the entire website was taken down because there was a mysterious blog post?
Let me see the crazy 6 legged, two headed beast that the camera picked up, or the microbes in the soil, something...
What happened on Mars? - bennovw, on 06/01/2008, -0/+6Take the lander hostage?
- worldchanger, on 06/01/2008, -0/+6...or it didn't happen.
- umbrellainabin, on 06/01/2008, -2/+8***** THE RIAA
- spammishking, on 06/01/2008, -0/+6Anyone know anything additional? I've checked 10 different sites, and they all say the same exact thing.
