- Hetman, on 01/12/2009, -1/+42Time to get started on my 2029 book. The true end of the world. Not like those fake ones in. 1941, 1977, 1999, 2001, and 2012. I am serious guys this is the end.
- cmorriss, on 01/12/2009, -1/+37No, it will not collide with Earth. I'm going to trust NASA on this one: http://neo.jpl.nasa.gov/apophis/
- jerryjamesstone, on 01/12/2009, -1/+34Man, that's gonna kinda suck
- ferrell, on 01/12/2009, -0/+27"Hey baby, we've only got 20 years to live. Will you have sex with me?"
- inactive, on 01/12/2009, -3/+30Dugg for Tyson.
He brings soul to astrophysics.
Too bad my birthday is April 13. :(
I hope he's wrong. That'll be a really bad birthday. - dball48, on 01/13/2009, -0/+22This time it's personal.
- Ch4rd, on 01/12/2009, -3/+23Neil deGrasse Tyson, ***** yeah.
- Jabrams2, on 01/12/2009, -1/+20ok, that guy was pretty funny/entertaining... but while I'm sitting here laughing it hit me... that's frickin scary
- csxero, on 01/12/2009, -1/+19I think I remember this guy from colbert or the daily show, funny guy.
But yeah, oh *****. - DonMiliahn, on 01/12/2009, -1/+18I can't wait until "Thursday the 13th" hits theatres
- inactive, on 01/12/2009, -2/+17the world is going to end! send me your money!
- WordsnCollision, on 01/12/2009, -0/+15An article about an asteroid hitting the Earth in 2029 may hit Digg's front page in 2009... yeesh, Tyson made that speech nearly 2 years ago.
- Megad00mer, on 01/13/2009, -0/+11Neil deGrasse Tyson is so entertaining to listen too. Physicists like him and Michio Kaku are breathing new life into physics and really making it something we all can understand.
- DubBucket, on 01/13/2009, -0/+11It's Apophis, I think Richard Dean Anderson would be more appropriate.
- goldenballs21, on 01/12/2009, -1/+12Here's to hoping Bruce Willis will be alive to take of that bad boy for us.
- fruscianteisgod, on 01/13/2009, -1/+11http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neil_de_Grasse_Tyson
aka black jesus - travcm, on 01/13/2009, -0/+9This is outdated. It's now a 0 on the torino scale.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torino_Scale - JerodSlay, on 01/12/2009, -1/+9It could hit later on though.
- Kronich, on 01/12/2009, -5/+13I thought it was supposed to be 2012
- Spire3660, on 01/13/2009, -2/+9IMO, NOTHING is more important to the survival of the species then establishing a viable, self sustaining off world colony.
- anarcurt, on 01/12/2009, -0/+7Tyson's a great speaker, he's always informative but very funny. Fora.tv has some other speeches and interviews with him as well. If you like this clip check out the one about dying in a black hole.
- Garay002, on 01/13/2009, -0/+7Tyson makes an interesting subject even more interesting.
I love the way he describes everything, he's an inspiration. - LoneCanisLupus, on 01/12/2009, -2/+9Don't forget 6/6/06!
- afx114, on 01/13/2009, -0/+7Tyson for President 2016!!
- Zoophagous, on 01/13/2009, -1/+8The chance of an Earth impact for 99942 Apophis was eliminated a couple years ago.
Science > * - steger, on 01/13/2009, -0/+7Keyword... "May".
- HookmasterCH47, on 01/13/2009, -0/+6Neil deGrasse Tyson rocks!
- MacEnvy, on 01/13/2009, -0/+6He's been on Colbert a few times, but his best TV work is as the host of NOVA Science Now on PBS. Truly a fantastic series.
- snowysnowcones, on 01/13/2009, -0/+6I initially read the title as "2009". Thought we were doomed.
- blitzkriegpunk, on 01/13/2009, -0/+5Waiting for Stargate references ...
- inactive, on 01/12/2009, -7/+12We need to get a ***** colony started on Mars.
We should be a multi-planet race so the odds of the human race surviving is much higher.
Although I'm sure those crazy religious types would just view this as the apocalypse and say there's no reason to do anything about it because it's, "Gods will", right? ***** morons. - nairbil, on 01/13/2009, -0/+5http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/99942_Apophis
- 23cranberries, on 01/13/2009, -0/+5Was he saying something ? His hands were so loud I couldn't hear him.
- Tyrghast, on 01/13/2009, -1/+6to paraphrase the great Bill Hicks, if we took all the money we spend on weapons and killing each other every year, it would be enough to wipe out world hunger and bring education and health care to every single human being NOT ONE EXCLUDED. If we ever are able to live with each other without violence we can all explore space together.
By the way the number 1 excuse for violence is religion. It is in the best interest of the human race to eliminate religion as soon as possible. Disagree? Why the hell do you think we're still sending children over to Iraq to 'fight' for us? Because a few religious nuts on either side the pond have access to big guns and posses very little in the way of common sense. - JerodSlay, on 01/12/2009, -1/+6Wasn't there a (different) clip of him talking about the same thing plus black hole deaths a few days ago?
- Tyrghast, on 01/13/2009, -0/+5Just in time for a Stargate marathon
- inactive, on 01/13/2009, -0/+5There is no "meant" to. There is no karma, no destiny, no god, no super natural, no luck, none of that ***** exists. We live and we die. The only real laws is physics. It's up to us to help ourselves survive.
- Donotsurf, on 01/13/2009, -0/+4Month of May? May, my sister? May I have your number?
- Vosona, on 01/13/2009, -0/+4China currently has a project where they're trying to control the direction of comets and meteors by attaching a rocket to them and using the thrusters to alter its course.
- CanceledCzech, on 01/13/2009, -0/+4Dude, he was on *****' StarGate. Needless to say; I came.
- inactive, on 01/13/2009, -0/+4Cheer up guys! With any luck the asteroid will strike at some place nobody cares about like Mexico or South America.
- r0g3r, on 01/13/2009, -0/+4It's an old speech, and it is now known that it will not collide in 2029. However, there is the possibility of an orbital resonance with Earth occurring after it comes into earth's sphere of gravitational influence, which would increase the chances of a future impact. The 2036 pass has a very low chance of impact, but not entirely ruled out.
- djdole, on 01/13/2009, -0/+4Not eliminated, just determined to be less likely than previously thought.
Slight impact or gravitational pull from some yet undiscovered celestial body could still have it threading the keyhole. O_O - buddyw, on 01/13/2009, -0/+4At least we don't have to worry about Social Security any more.
- scotus55, on 01/13/2009, -0/+4Super Volcano under Yellowstone will get us first.
- MacEnvy, on 01/13/2009, -1/+5Armageddon 2: Apophis Boogaloo
- leethefilmer, on 01/13/2009, -0/+3For some reason that guy is easy to listen to.
- fruscianteisgod, on 01/12/2009, -1/+4we didnt name that one Bambi lol
- djdole, on 01/13/2009, -1/+4You're confusing the irrational assumption of end of the world based based on the Aztec calendar ending in 1012 with this reality based one.
This one is based on evidence-backed science of astrophysics rather than someone's fallible religion/personal myths.
The dude is hilarious though. ^_^ -
