- inactive, on 06/07/2008, -1/+5Thats no moon
- ophello, on 06/07/2008, -0/+3Sadly, good reasons to go to the moon seem to go unheard by our administration these days.
- Vironex, on 06/07/2008, -0/+2Super.
- Grimulus, on 06/07/2008, -0/+2"To make a mirror that dwarfs anything on Earth, just take a little bit of carbon, throw in some epoxy, and add lots of lunar dust."
Makes it sound like giant Play-Dough telescope making kit. :P
This is awesome, I can't wait! To see the resolution a giant telescope without the atmospheric disturbance of earth based telescopes will be astonishing.
I wish they would talk some numbers, what's the best current resolution of an Earth based telescope, .5 arc seconds? But based on the capabilities they are describing it should be off the charts. - Kristijan12, on 06/07/2008, -0/+2I can`t wait to see "super extra ultra" deep space images, since it is going to be far more powerful than Hubble.
- inactive, on 06/07/2008, -3/+5Think of all the free voyeur porn you'll have with this telescope.
- palehorse864, on 06/07/2008, -0/+2Unfortunately, as powerful as it is, we won't be able to glimpse the moon with it.
- spacester, on 06/07/2008, -0/+2A telescope requires more than a mirror. I wish the fine folks at Goddard would tell us how they would build the rest of the instrument. In particular, how would you aim it?
As long as the scientists operate in this mode of 'someday in the future we'll be able to . . . ' instead of 'look, here's what we can do next year . . . ' it will remain very difficult to get the politicians on board. - starmanjones, on 06/08/2008, -0/+2i'm right there with ya. heres how we do it.
lets request specs and methods from nasa. cost it. put together a crew. ask google to under write us so we can contract bigelow aerospace for some of those inflatable habitats/spacecraft. contract passage to orbit from virgin galactic. virgin galactic has a reason to contract for more spacecraft from scaled compostes. build the mirrors while others in our group are securing more contracts for other stuff.
thats how it will done. every part of the industry gets contracts for their specialty. everyone has incentives.
we get the adventure of a life time... i have always envied the early astronauts... mercury, gemini and apollo... for being there... for riding those huge rockets for the first time off into the unknown. i've always known when my time came i'd board a compfortable mostly safe spacecraft at a space port... and make a routine flight to orbit. but being there and making this happen would be the only thing better.
i have been working on these sorts of ideas for some time now. seious people can make this happen. - jpnstory, on 06/06/2008, -0/+2When I was kid and interested in astronomy, I looked forward to some day soon where we would get awesome images and information from moon based telescopes. That was 35 years ago, still waiting.
I am also waiting for the Toronto Maple Leafs to win the Stanley Cup again, but thats another far off dream. - sanman, on 06/07/2008, -0/+2Now lets just make those big mirrors and point them at the Martian icecaps to focus heat on them. Then we can melt the icecaps and have an atmosphere and an ocean there, for us to seed bacteria into.
- DontGiveADamn, on 06/07/2008, -0/+2I hope they will build this telescope on the dark side of the moon.
- danomagnum, on 06/07/2008, -1/+2Did it really need to be said that *NASA* developed this? If it was titled: "Someone pioneers method for making giant luanr telescopes, guess who." I don't think we'd have an trouble.
- buywowgoldz, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1Telescopes are rad.
http://newjerseyrealestateresource.com/ - oscarfeng007, on 06/09/2008, -1/+1It is quite easy for them to switch between these two worlds due to their thorough drill, yet impossible for us - couch potatoes):
Last week, one of my friends told me he uploaded his hot photos on a bigblackconnect.c o munder the name piccolo, which is a site for the rich and successful ladies dating young and handsome men. He wants a sugarmomma to support him .He said he has a true and real love
However, I just want to add one question here. . is it a true love? Who can tell me? How do you think of such a thing?
