- Xinareiaz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20When I read the title I thought they were talking about jets as in rockets and UFO's I was like "CRAP, MARS ATTACKS!"
- gosix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Where's the kaboom? There's supposed to be an earth-shattering kaboom!
- Xinareiaz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Total recal? That movie is awesome....
- ahawks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9To clear up any confusion, it is *not* water:
"Jets of carbon dioxide gas erupting from the ice cap as it warms in the spring carry dark sand and dust high aloft. The dark material falls back to the surface, creating dark patches on the ice cap which have long puzzled scientists." - gosix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Oh, we had to actually read the article? :)
- icexe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7another "artist rendering".. bah! what we need is to get one of those rovers over there for a front row view of the action.
- halleyscomet, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10COOL! That means we can start building ships and just fly on over to destroy ANOTHER planet! As a bonus, their ecosystem is freshly revived, so those Environmental folks can't raise much of a stink. After all, just a few days ago it was a barren, lifeless desert, so how can they mind it staying that way?
Think they have oil? - Champzilla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The real question here is, who is flying these jets?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Ummmm.... according to most of the manned Mars mission plans floating about...it's about a 6 month flight one way.
Where the HELL do you get 8 years?!?
0.o - Lardquake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"I am inclined to think that this blaze may have been the casting of the huge gun, in
the vast pit sunk into their planet, from which their shots were fired at us. Peculiar markings, as yet unexplained, were seen near the site of that outbreak during the next two oppositions."
H.G. Wells - The War of the Worlds - peritonlogon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's eight if your chasing it around the sun, or if you're mistaking Mars for Saturn (3-7) (12 years to Neptune).
- LucasVB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@hypnotizd: Mars has lots of water, just not in liquid form (at least not on the surface)
- LucasVB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Here come the tripods!
- mikebritton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dugg for the first comment.
- DiamondIce, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2look lower down, there are pictures underneath the rendering.
- aaryn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Quaid started the reactor."
That was sadly the first thing I thought when I read the headline - domusvita, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Wait...let me guess...these jets are 757s and are under remote control of Karl Rove. Oh...wrong kind of jet.
- CarlStreet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow, if there are jets there must be passengers and cargo to ride in them -- so, I guess that proves there IS advanced life on Mars. I wonder why such an advanced civilization would store their jets under ice instead of having an airport. Perhaps, they know something we do not....
- hypnotizd, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Since when does mars actually have water? Don't you need water to make an ice cap?
- joeydoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"qqqqqqqqqqquuuaaiidddd......."
- vikingcoder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not if it's "dry ice", i.e. the ice cap is composed primarily of CO2.
- gosix, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2crap..commented in wrong place...digg down
- gormly, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3>> "Quaid started the reactor. "

- Factionrider, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1Try 8 years, if you could even fill a shuttle with enough food and water. (Or would it be 16? I cant remember if it's a four year or eight year one way trip.)
