- aslowdescent, on 05/24/2008, -10/+75Wow, we've even caused global warming on Jupiter, send in Al Gore!
- englmetzgr, on 05/24/2008, -9/+55Yep, we're messing up the whole solar system. All but one of the planets are documented to have global warming.
- wjlaw100, on 05/24/2008, -3/+48Better hope Uranus doesn't get these red-spots... I'd bet they'd be itchy.
- aptimass, on 05/24/2008, -14/+54Why do all the planets experience climate change, but when it happens on earth it is because of human progress?
- yloish, on 05/24/2008, -3/+28Oh, great! That's all we need. Now Global Warming is contagious.
- Anomaly100, on 05/24/2008, -2/+17This image is so fantastic that I thought it had to be a painting. I had to look it up to be sure. It's absolutely incredible what's out there.
- marially, on 05/24/2008, -3/+18Twice the diameter of earth !??!! Can't even imagine...........
- pyrotix, on 05/24/2008, -1/+14I am not at all ashamed to admit I actually care about the weather on other planets
- SilentScream, on 05/24/2008, -0/+12I think I can see the black monoliths starting to form.
- Murdats, on 05/24/2008, -4/+15because some how those scientists whose sole purpose is to study climate change somehow missed this,
or much more likely they have taken this into account and still discover that our planet is warming much faster then it should be. - inactive, on 05/24/2008, -9/+18Well I hope the politicians on Jupiter start passing laws and raising taxes on those evil corporations that are causing the warming there.
Thank God they dont have polar bears on Jupiter. - Railer, on 05/24/2008, -8/+16ring....ring...
Hello?
Hey Venus baby, is that you? It's Jupiter...
Hey Cutie! How you doing? Wow that was a wild orbital cycle, I was so drunk.....
Hey ya that was great, anyhow I've been to the doctor, see I got these crazy red spots and ...... well get yourself checked out ok baby, peace!
Click - marx2k, on 05/24/2008, -1/+9Awww, Jupiter's in it's adolescent acne phase it looks like
- leetninja, on 05/24/2008, -8/+15the planet already has enough gas on it ... doesnt need a fartbag like him ...
- thundacracka, on 05/24/2008, -3/+9Bush's Fault.
- Raian, on 05/24/2008, -3/+8"The mergers are part of a significant climate change Marcus thinks is imminent. Unlike Earth, Jupiter's equator is not much warmer than its poles, even though the equator receives more sunlight. That implies something is globally mixing the heat pretty effectively, Marcus explains. (Another factor is that Jupiter generates much of its heat from within.)
The vortices play a role, he thinks, with chaos as a supporting actor. Imagine putting dye in a cup of water. It doesn't mix well. But shake the cup -- introduce some chaos -- and the dye mixes easily. The vortices create chaos that extends from the visible surface down into Jupiter's hidden belly."
You should have read the linked article to understand how different Jupiter is from Earth... But how it's also an opportunity to learn how jet streams play a role in how a planet deals with heat. - evrowaks, on 05/24/2008, -6/+11hey Jupitians..your gaseous emissions are warming your planet..better tax your evillllll
oil companies..by the way..al gore is selling carbon credits.. - yodaj007, on 05/24/2008, -1/+5Because the sarcasm is.... um, obvious?
- crash331, on 05/24/2008, -6/+10You're right, there's too many of us. End yourself to help the planet.
- Fhwqhgads, on 05/24/2008, -1/+5It must suck to live on Jupiter.
- shadowman99, on 05/24/2008, -0/+3Jupiter gets drunk and wake up with a new tattoo. It's not like it's never happened before.
- kody, on 05/24/2008, -8/+11Looks like man made global warming to me...
- cabrerski, on 05/24/2008, -7/+10It is amazing what science is coming to. According to the accompanying article, the chemical composition is unknown. It is uncertain what causes the color (red). But by _______ (God, Allah, Supreme Being or Big Bang), it is doing this weird thing because of climate change!
Al Gore didn't invent science, he just perfected it. - Stevanoski, on 05/24/2008, -3/+6Hey, just a wild guess, reckon the Sun has anything to do with climate change? Nawwwww, what was I thinking, it has to be Capitalism.
- Rodalli, on 05/24/2008, -0/+3I've seen this before...it's ringworm! Jupiter should apply a thin layer of clotrimazole twice daily to the affected areas.
- Lith25, on 05/24/2008, -0/+3Off topic, but damn I would like to see what the inside of that planet looks like. I realize there isn't supposed to be any actual land-mass, but it would still be amazing to see.
- stinkipete, on 05/24/2008, -8/+11besides, he's far too busy fighting manbearpig.
- akamurph, on 05/24/2008, -3/+6You just debunked your whole comment by saying climate change on earth is only due to humans while other planets is nature. B.S.
- cwgannon, on 05/24/2008, -1/+3From the Wiki link you provided:
"As a non-scientist who is not subject to peer review..."
Game over. - rewinn, on 05/24/2008, -3/+5The Great Red Spot is a weather feature, not climatic. This can be hard to appreciate since our human perception of time is based on a yearly cycle that doesn't apply in the same way to gas giants.
- MrFurious2k, on 05/24/2008, -2/+4Proof of life on other planets. "Climate Change" as a result of aliens driving their huge SUVs around the planet.
- ValTruth, on 05/24/2008, -2/+4Is the idea of SOLAR warming so difficult to believe?
Maybe our sun is going through menopause as it ages... - leetninja, on 05/24/2008, -6/+8thanks for that spamvertisement on the bottom of your little inane comment ... unfortunately no one cares about your political opinion on here and this isnt a forum ... so with that said ... go die ...
- matrixbandit, on 05/24/2008, -0/+1Jupiter, buddy, you should totally get that checked out.
- inactive, on 05/25/2008, -1/+2Sorry, your reply didn't reference South Park or bash Al Gore; it will now be buried.
- celticspringers, on 05/24/2008, -0/+1One day our descendants will live on space platforms orbiting the gas giants, and grow up in Martian colonies, exploring the Solar System and generally doing things that we can only dream of. Lucky bastards.
- aelias, on 05/24/2008, -0/+1Because there aren't any politicians or money on Jupiter.
- noen, on 05/24/2008, -0/+1You first.
- Inflammo, on 05/24/2008, -0/+1Might I suggest Proactiv?
- crash331, on 05/24/2008, -4/+5***** it, we'll do it live?
- noen, on 05/24/2008, -0/+1I want some of those drugs you're taking. No... wait, I think I'll pass.
- rewinn, on 05/24/2008, -1/+2"semi-permanent" is an illusion based on our human perception of time. A thousand years seems like a long time to use but to Jupiter it's not really that long.
- xero69, on 05/25/2008, -0/+1Jupiter has an STD?!
- noen, on 05/24/2008, -0/+1FAIL
http://illconsidered.blogspot.com/2006/04/its-sun- ...
"According to PMOD at the World Radiation Center there has been no increase in solar irradiance since at least 1978 when satellite observations began. This means that for the last thirty years, while the temperature has been rising fastest, the sun has shown no trend." - Gothvanhelsing, on 05/25/2008, -2/+3"Jupiter's recent outbreak of red spots is likely related to large scale climate change as the gas giant planet is getting warmer near the equator." Sounds like a climate change issue to me. I love how all the things that point to the fact that the solar system is getting warmer doesn't apply to Earth for some reason or another.
- noen, on 05/24/2008, -3/+4Are there humans living on the other planets? The only planet in the solar system where human created climate change is even possible is on Earth. ANY climatic changes observed on ANY planet MUST be natural in origin.
I did not say that climate change on Earth is due ONLY to human activity. There are other factors. However, our contribution to global warming is massive and overwhelming. It is a directly observed and scientific fact. - rewinn, on 05/24/2008, -0/+1There's a treatment available for red spots, but it requires a 100,000-kilometer long tube of ointment.
- noen, on 05/24/2008, -1/+2You didn't actually read the article did you.
