- yillip, on 08/06/2008, -1/+3I love space. I love life.
- mstrebe, on 08/06/2008, -1/+3I can't believe we wasted so much money on this telescope when so many people on earth are still starving! What an enormous waste of resources. The carbon footprint of this ecodisaster is enormous--all those scientists driving to work for all those years!!! Discovering that the expansion of the universe is expanding, discovering dark matter and dark energy, putting a firm number on the age of the universe, and a few miscellaneous dwarf planets--how are >any< of those things going to create world peace? We need to STOP this waste now, and STOP putting science above CO2 emissions.

- pittpat, on 08/06/2008, -0/+1I have a cousin in Huntsville that was one of the engineers back in the late 70's early 80's that worked on this thing. To hear him talk about it when I was a kid was amazing!

- hollyminkowski, on 08/06/2008, -1/+1There are probably other telescopes in orbit, aimed not at space, but at the ground. They may even rival or surpass the capabilities of the Hubble.
- mustardapple, on 08/06/2008, -4/+3***** you, two of my friends died building a giant telescope
