- happyperson, on 10/11/2007, -0/+32This is exactly the source of procrastination I don't need... ...Damn those pretty swirls of light... ....5 more and I'll get back to work
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+16So where is the highscores list?
- Jonny5alive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+18Been doing it for a few hours now,.
Most of the images are really poor quality, so it's hard to make any kind of judgment on something that looks like a splattered fly. - Sikarian, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13This is going to give me a heart attack. I'm too afraid to click a button on one I don't know, because I have it in my head that if I do, I will forever classify that galaxy as the wrong type, and future generations will be confused when they fall back to this database for research. Some scientist may make a judgment call based upon what type of galaxy I accidentally labeled, and it would be wrong and would cause some kind of horrible outcome and ultimately bring out the end of the world.
Theres someone else checkin these galaxies right? I'm not the only one to check this right? Someone else? Going to look at it, get their opinion? - BobOki, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13I win with my awesome reply to an all red sector.
email:
NOOOOOO!!!!!
It HAS to be a martian kitten shooting laser beams from his huge eye at earth destined to hit in a year from now and my e-mail will save the human race which should result in me getting lots of money, cheap women, and free parking!
MAKE IT SO!!!!!!!

Dear *edited out*,
That is actually a very bright and very nearby star!
(you can find out more by clicking on the galaxy reference number, or go here:
http://cas.sdss.org/astro/en/tools/explore/obj.asp?id=587726878346379283
and click on the image)
*EDIT*
Seems they just replied to that e-mail... and they have trumped me...
Heres their reply:
"Oh, ok. We'll make a button for that.
Thanks!
" - eihwaz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10They just say "make your best guess", so i think that the same image is given to multiple people and then they simply take the most chosen option.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9Sweet. I'd been looking for a new way to dodge work and shirk responsibility, now I can put an somewhat altruistic spin on it if/when I get caught! Huzzah for the internets!
- slapded, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8i did the test and got 4 out of 15. i suck
- profOblivion, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8It's okay, it's for the betterment of mankind!
- Zuggy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8One more community project to waste precious time on. And it's space, who can honestly deny the coolness of space.
- dannylewis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Yeah, I wish they separated the Star/Don't Know button into two separate buttons because most of the time when I don't know what I'm looking at, I definitely know it's NOT a star.
- Bakkster, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I assume they'll use a statistical method to determine that if n out of x people classify it the same, it must be.
- profOblivion, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Link to searchjerk = automatic bury/block/report. It's like a reflex now.
- taerin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Don't worry, future generations will only laugh at your ineptitude and seek to remove your genes from the gene pool. So you're only dooming your grandchildren. ;)
- bbqsalad, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I was playing with this last night.. Really cool idea and fun!
- nikkilai, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3OK, i'm having a REALLY hard time with the clockwise/anticlockwise spirals...
- blastus7, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2i am doing my part to better mankind...or just sort blurry pictures of galaxies.
- slapthemonkey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Cool.
- antoniojvr, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Dammit, where's the flying saucer button...
- mahler, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Dugg for beautiful astro-physics chicks

http://www-astro.physics.ox.ac.uk/photoboard/photoboard-Pages/Image102.html - koick, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2The button even looks like each one. It's not too hard; imagine starting on the outer point of one of the arms and work your way inward along the arm -- are you moving clockwise or counter-clockwise?
- Twango, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Many of these are being seen by a human (YOU) for the first time! And if you don't get too focussed on the center images (the galaxies) there's lots of mysterious stuff going on all around them ...
Hooked! Have a look at THIS one somebody found:
http://chrislintott.net/2007/07/11/galaxy-zoo-press/ - hevnsnt, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1because you can only submit a site to digg once.
- seppkurt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1so here it is: http://www.galaxyzoo.org/CurrentStatistics.aspx lets go for it!
- smackhero, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1why are they using a yahoo.co.uk account? these guys don't know how to setup their own webmail/pop3 or something?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I guess it uses a SETI@home likemethod that is: 10 people that are strangers to each other say that is a galaxy so it will be listed as a possible candidate to be classified as a galaxy. Now the team only have to check all those candidates.
- mrbradg, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Jonny5alive says poor quality imagines. Hum.....lets see you take some better. Give me a break.
- koick, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Me too. But the very first thing i had to actually identify was three small blobs very close together. "WTF? Ug!"
- socialidiocy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Shouldn't I have to have a Ph.D to do this?...
- nikkilai, on 10/11/2007, -0/+112 out of 15, woo.

- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1The jumping (auto scroll) of the page after a new load is kindof irritating.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2few hours? Are you bored??
- Cirrius, on 10/11/2007, -7/+4What, page 2 wasn't good enough for the article so a duplicate had to be dugg up to page 1? (admittedly this one was was submitted 8 before this http://www.digg.com/space/Scientists_ask_public_to_help_sort_galaxies )
