It’s lonely out in space
On such a timeless flight - urgeigh, on 08/22/2008, -1/+15For here am I sitting in a tin can, far above the world
Planet Earth is blue and there's nothing I can do - RocquesDiggs, on 08/28/2008, -4/+18I can't imagine spending that much time isolated.
- Kristijan12, on 08/22/2008, -1/+11Playing video games (and I dont mean solitaire, etc.) should help on longer flights.
In free time that is.
When in a virtual world, we gamers often forget the world around us, sometimes for a long time.
Maybe it would work. - TheMachine1, on 08/22/2008, -2/+12Some people can tolerate extreme protracted isolation fairly easily, eating the same foods, and following a daily repetitive process. Its called the autism spectrum. But they have other weaknesses that may make them "melt down" under mild stresses that the average person could tolerate.
- flxfxp, on 08/22/2008, -0/+10Dude, those things fling through TV's! Wonder what damage it will do on a shuttle!
- eLuugy, on 08/22/2008, -0/+8I'd say Wii, Super Smash Bros. will definitely last several months of game time. Plus, I'm sure playing with the Wii remotes in zero gravity would be awesome!
- kevyn, on 08/22/2008, -1/+9I think I would end up quite a different person after a trip like that.
- apena89, on 08/22/2008, -1/+9you know he won't be getting prostate cancer..
- merlin484, on 08/21/2008, -4/+11I can see you're really upset about this. I honestly think you ought to sit down calmly, take a stress pill, and think things over.
- lukak, on 08/22/2008, -1/+8the solution is to send bowie?
- jsdratm, on 08/22/2008, -0/+7"Frank, this is Houston. You landed on Mars two weeks ago and you haven't left the ship. Please stop playing WoW and complete the mission!"
"But I can't leave, I'm in the middle of a Kara run... And then there is the Black Temple and my 4 alts to level to 70." - pauls88, on 08/22/2008, -1/+7i would love to see a film based on this guy, someone could do a great one.
- kkiram, on 08/22/2008, -0/+6spacing out in space ;)
- passedoutghost, on 08/22/2008, -1/+6Just wrap a towel around it.
- jeremyduffy, on 08/22/2008, -1/+6Any given MMO would solve that problem.
"Hey Vlad, you don't attaching that panel yet?"
"....."
"Vlad?"
"....."
"VLAD!"
"What!"
"Are you done attaching that panel yet!?"
"Not now, mission control! I have to take down this Ogre!" - inactive, on 08/22/2008, -1/+6 Though I'm passed one hundred thousand miles, I'm feeling very still And I think my spaceship knows which way to go,

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069293/ - secondfiddle, on 08/22/2008, -2/+6Though I’m past one hundred thousand miles
I’m feeling very still
And I think my spaceship knows which way to go - Lingur, on 08/22/2008, -0/+3How would a manned relay station speed things up? If anything, it would slow it down.
Radio waves travel at the speed of light. So sending a message from the space shuttle straight to earth is the fasted known method of communication. Well, at least until we can leverage "Spooky action at a distance" into something useful.
Edit: Sorry, I'm an idiot. Of course you meant that the astronauts could communicate with someone closer. Nevermind. - cosmicastaway, on 08/22/2008, -1/+4The Lonely Astronaut - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svAQ6BCIgxg
Hilarious web series, check it out. - danjal, on 08/22/2008, -1/+4Dedicated uplink to World of warcraft =D yeah i'm a pasty white geek so what
- Berkana, on 08/22/2008, -2/+5My goodness, he basically suffered solitary confinement for that entire time.
- kevyn, on 08/22/2008, -1/+4slight problem with the old internet connection I think there chief
- pauls88, on 08/22/2008, -0/+2not all films have to action packed.
I can see it being a film about his psychology and his voice over reading his diary as he slowly goes mad....does my taste in films say something worrying about me? - impedance101, on 08/22/2008, -0/+2It needs to be a long enough game, like Oblivion or something
- cosmicastaway, on 08/22/2008, -0/+2Now he's the Lonely Astronaut...

Feeling Low Up High isn't a bad name for a movie either. - jeremyadam, on 08/22/2008, -2/+4i would give anything to be an astronaut.
- caseycoold, on 08/22/2008, -0/+1you could play a moded Civ 4 or Heroes of Might and Magic 5. They are turn based.
- drexl, on 08/22/2008, -0/+1Am I the only person that thought of the Blink-182 song, Astehnia?
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=asthenia+&btn ... - Rykielz, on 08/23/2008, -0/+1Understatement of the day.
- brettg102, on 08/22/2008, -0/+1Pretty sure the space station is a fairly pure oxygen mix...wouldn't be a great idea to smoke.
- qwertydvorak, on 08/22/2008, -0/+1ya, the ping would suck. satellite connetion always has a high ping. maybe if they could work out a laser fiber optic style connection without the fiber the ping would drop.
- impedance101, on 08/22/2008, -0/+1then will he do after the first day?
- sparkleshine, on 08/22/2008, -1/+2"The best outcome," says Shepanek, "is that you never hear about any serious problems."
Is this what he really means? That WE never HEAR about any problems? Wouldn't the best outcome be that there ARE NO PROBLEMS, serious or otherwise? - sk11, on 08/22/2008, -0/+1Just give them a pc, internet connection and a copy of WoW. They may not get any work done, however.
