- dadrew1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Could try walking outside. That is 1 step better than near-real time Exploration of Earth, that IS real time exploration of planet earth...
- ampledismantle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12I think I can see me waving to myself out my window! Wait... that's not me.
- snypa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Is it just me, or can anybody else not see anything?
- Pattyo13, on 05/14/2009, -1/+10is that why every 9 hours everything around me turns red for like 30 seconds and passes from east to west
- seattle98104, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Needs a ***** manual. How do you even get started?
- fishbert, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8No, that's real-time exploration of the parking lot.
And I ain't too keen on that, my boy. - Pattyo13, on 05/14/2009, -4/+10step 1, go to http://maps.google.com
step 2 - intuitive - Wisgary, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Uhhhhh I tried it out and I'll stick to Google Earth, Google Maps, NASA Worldwind and hell, MSN Virtual Earth thank you very much.
- BossX, on 10/12/2007, -9/+13Google Maps > this
- AmishJedi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7they did not find him, yet.
- CoachZed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Cool, it's just like Google Maps--just less good!
- Leathersoup, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3So when did two hours begin to equal real time? If so... I have a ray tracing program that renders scenes in real time.....
- fitchmicah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3parts of minnesota and wisconsin really don't get very much snow at all, they are just cold.
in mpls, there is like no snow on the ground and it has barely even flurried all winter. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7*****. My bad. I read the press release on that and assumed that they had rescued James, not the officer.
- Alisic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3OR you can just go OUTSIDE and really explore the earth in REAL TIME with AMAZING VISUALS
- Eoxx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Little HOW TO guide
1. First select the region you want to look at in the screen at the right (World map) and zoom to the region
2. Go to the search box at the bottom right
2a. click for the two check boxes
2b. select a date for the beginning and the end period
2c. validate - the coordinates are the coordinates of the region you have zoomed on
3. you get picture on the left
4. when you click on a picture it gives you a rectangle on the map giving you the position of the picture
OPINION
Ok it is not Google earth nor MSN Virtual Earth:
- It is more a satellite view for weather or natural events in progress, such as fires, floods and volcanic eruptions ; it is not a tool to spy your neighbor ;p
- the interface is not optimum ...
- the satellite show you the clouds too (it is not pictures taken from plane)
but
- the resolution of the pictures are really big and detailed
- it is near real time available to the public ... and not only scientists
- it covers the whole world not only US of A (I know google does it too now but not when it launched and the resolution is not the same for all part of the world)
- this public service has only started on December the 5Th (they will probably enhance it in the future - as other services did in the past google earth)
- it is real satellite picture not a mix between from plane pictures and satellite
Interesting tool as a complement of Google earth or MSN Virtual Earth... Or to get really unique picture gallery of earth... Each tool is unique each has its good and bad features ... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7Oh? Can you provide a link? Last I heard they were still searching and had to rescue a deputy that got hurt trying to find him.
- mooninite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It is working with Firefox 2.0 on Linux.
- veektor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Service Unavailable
- markdr123, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2You want to explore planet Earth in near-real time? Or even real time? Walk out your ***** door!
- Merlinhoot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why I was just thinking to myself , self, why don't we have a real time image rendering and quality analysis of satellite data. It can only get better.
- Qliphah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Perhaps picking a time when they are having server issues, downtime, and satellite reception problems wasn't the best time to post this on digg.... thanks alot for screwing over the next person that tries linking to their site when its actually working.
- FlapJaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You can't. it's a piece of crap
- dwemer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There are weather satellites that have been providing real time images for 40 years now. Live images from space is really not that big of a deal.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TIROS-1 - EntropyMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is it down? I can move around the earth, but it's just the Blue Marble dataset. No realtime imagery, as far as I can see.
- shanedn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Working on Firefox on my BMP here.
- BicBall, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2it just overlaid a massive, transparent red square over the area i was looking at.
- swaters210, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is pretty cool. Does anybody know when the satellite passes over Area 51? just curious.
- fitchmicah, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1but I do agree that there isn't enough snow on that front page picture cause I know that the UP has gotten very much snow by now...
- wnl7prince, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I can't even get this to work... I'm sticking with my window if I want to know whether it is raining or not.
- neuroticus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yep, only works on IE. Firefox doesn't allow map manipulation, just shows a picture of the world.
Also, only zooms in half as far as you need it to. - Hoodwinker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Holy crap, the high-res images they give you are huge! Like really really huge! Too bad you can't get close to streets and stuff. Or can you?
- jerbaker, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Buried for being a POS IE-only site.
- fuckingusername, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Real time it isn't young skywalker!
real time would be a cam live feed not a picture. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Wouldnt South-East Wisconsin be white from the snow?
Ive seen it from a plane and the ground looked white, not green - Hoodwinker, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Yeah, great ***** solution you moron! Because you know, I'm just going to walk out my ***** door and watch Mt. Etna spewing molten rock in real time. Yeah, thanks for the great advice, jackass.
- maggirl, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0We are the peole who have to care about our place, our earth!
And we have to use all She give us very careful. Earth metas are really important for our future! I work by magnesium and I can say that metal is our future.
www.magnesium.com - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0This is a pretty cool website!
- JK124, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1It's nice. Not like Google Earth though..
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -19/+12Can I use this to find James Kim?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -31/+3They already found him.
