This is quite something coming from him. He has nothing to gain and everything to lose... definitely compelling. - shaXian, on 07/24/2008, -4/+44I want to believe.
- Findeton, on 07/25/2008, -1/+27This is from wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edgar_Mitchell#Other_ ...
Mitchell's interests include consciousness and paranormal phenomena. During the Apollo 14 flight he conducted private ESP experiments with his friends on Earth.[3] In early 1973, he founded the nonprofit Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) to conduct and sponsor research into areas that mainstream science has found unproductive, including consciousness research and psychic events.
Mitchell says that a teenage remote healer who lives in Vancouver and uses the pseudonym Adam Dreamhealer, helped heal him of kidney cancer at a distance. Mitchell said that while he never had a biopsy (the definitive test for cancer), "I had a sonogram and MRI that was consistent with renal carcinoma." Adam worked (distantly) on Mitchell from December of 2003 until June of 2004, when the "irregularity was gone and we haven't seen it since."[4] - hughesj919, on 07/25/2008, -6/+26Not really. The guy is kinda out there already. He claimed that a teenage healer cured his kidney cancer, and hes into pyschic stuff and ESP. Check his wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edgar_Mitchell
...unless of course, thats just the government trying to discredit him. - JezusGhoti, on 07/25/2008, -12/+25All this proves is that no one is immune to going crazy and saying stupid *****.
- Ciryon, on 07/25/2008, -1/+11Like saying the earth is round. Now that is some crazy ***** right there
- wzpgsr, on 07/25/2008, -2/+11Mitchell has been saying this for years. Nothing new here.
- acegi, on 07/25/2008, -1/+7I don't think it requires belief...
logic states that with the number of galaxies and stars out there, the probability of life is high. - bratterscain, on 07/25/2008, -0/+6Just because you say aliens exist doesn't mean you can cook a fine meal. You mean kooks?
- covertbadger, on 07/25/2008, -0/+6@JahRage
Of course jonnyeh's word alone isn't worth much. But of course, the burden of proof is on Mitchell, not jonnyeh. - imapluralist, on 07/25/2008, -1/+7So what planet are you from?
- Ciryon, on 07/25/2008, -1/+6Many of the astronauts are christian and believe in a man in the clouds, so do most Americans. Why is this less credible than praying to a being who supposedly created the heavens and the earth and having that prayer "answered"?
We know for a fact that CIA and the Russians studied on this phenomenon and put a lot of money into it..
Just sayin :o - kraftj, on 07/25/2008, -4/+8Gramps has no more proof than you or I. He just wants us to believe what he believes. Think for yourself.
I think "aliens" exist, but not as visitors in saucers coming to stick probes in us. - ptoomey, on 07/25/2008, -2/+6That explains a lot. Countdown to Mitchell becoming a regular on "Coast to Coast AM with George Noory". I'm not taking a shot at the man. Hell, he strapped himself to millions of pounds of explosives and blasted himself to the freaking moon. He's a hero in my book but there are obviously some weaknesses in his critical thinking skills.
- epohs, on 07/25/2008, -1/+5But when you see something unidentified, that sorta by definition means that you don't know for certain that it is life from another planet.
- fani, on 07/25/2008, -1/+5kenrayd's post is why the War on Drugs is justified.
- deathcannon, on 07/25/2008, -0/+4Well they are still kind of unidentified.
- JohnMalcontent, on 07/25/2008, -0/+4He clarified his remarks on BlogTalkRadio last night: Still insisisting on the little green men but says NASA didn't know about them - to his knowledge: http://blog.blogtalkradio.com/2008/07/24/dr-edgar- ...
- spinladen, on 07/25/2008, -2/+6Everyone assumes Time is a constant in the universe. Time is ONLY a facet of the 3rd & 4th Dimensions, which in themselves are only harmonic overtones. Once one goes into 5d or higher, time becomes non linear and irrelevant. Travel between here and Alcyone only takes 6 hours.
- feanix, on 07/25/2008, -3/+7What if it's possible to go faster than the speed of light? It's not really sensible to rule that possiblilty out entirely. Einstein made some pretty horrendous mistakes with his theories.
- foopirata, on 07/25/2008, -2/+6You can guarantee it? So, if I dump my medical comps stock now, will you pay me back in 2 years time if they still go up?
- cJw314, on 07/25/2008, -1/+5i, for one, welcome a new "i, for one, welcome" meme.
- covertbadger, on 07/25/2008, -1/+5@Eezyville
Wrong. jonnyeh didn't make any statement based on absence of evidence, therefore there is no burden of proof on him. He didn't say "aliens don't exist because we've never seen one". He simply said that Mitchell must provide evidence for his extraordinary claims, and he's right. - Necoras, on 07/25/2008, -0/+3It makes accelerating past the speed of light harder. Traveling faster isn't explicitly impossible.
- inactive, on 07/25/2008, -0/+3Well, logically thinking there is probably intelligent life on other planets. Out of the billions of planetary systems, there are many that inhabitable. If something is inhabitable, it is probably inhabited.
On the other hand, it doesn't mean that any of these aliens have EVER come to our solar system. - LeviTheSmith, on 07/25/2008, -0/+3^^same
- imapluralist, on 07/25/2008, -2/+5Remote viewing maybe...but IMO remote healing is a stretch.
I wonder whether nasa ever backed any of his extracurricular research. - Data33, on 07/25/2008, -0/+3I know it's a stretch, but let's assume aliens are abducting random people from time to time. Also assume that a government would look bad if they said "Yes, there are things out there abducting people and there's nothing we can or will do about it". I would cover it up too if it saved me from that kind of bad publicity.
- hinmanj, on 07/25/2008, -4/+7I just was to point out (having learned from digg comments on the last Edgar Mitchell story) that this is a man who the government still recognizes as an american hero, even though they say he's insane. Because someone says aliens exist they are just shunned by the public as tinfoil-hat wearing cooks, but in some cases are still trusted to use billion dollar equipment. That has to mean something...
- ApokalypseNow, on 07/25/2008, -0/+3"UFOs are real and this is the guaranteed explanation: they are fallen angels, demons, devils."
As usual, I'm sure you have some objective, empirical evidence for this assertion?
No? So business as usual then, more baseless rhetoric from kenrayd. Move along people, nothing to see here. - inactive, on 07/25/2008, -1/+4"I can guarantee in 2 years time the medical industry as you know it will no longer exist do to the release of information concerning vibrational and quantum healing. I myself have witnessed and conducted some miraculous healings."
Haha spinladen is the kind of nutjob that still brings a smile to my face. - zeusthemoose, on 07/25/2008, -0/+3Its not wise to write wormholes off as "magic" when you are completely ignorant towards the math that goes into modeling the equations that make up the theory. You are no better than the creationist scientists who write off evolution as "magic". If you claim that a sound theory is wrong, you have to show why. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence after all, and writing off the math that goes into this as "magic" is an extraordinary claim in the eyes of science.
- alcavit, on 07/25/2008, -0/+3Think about how amazing and huge our universe is. Of course there is life somewhere else. I mean life strives to exist everywhere we can find on this planet and we are a very young planet. (Look how far we have come). I think you would have to be very self absorbed to believe we are the only intelligent life in this entire universe.
- Culyt, on 07/25/2008, -1/+4Personally I prefer "string theory healing", its like "quantum healing" only incorporates gravity and the holographic universe.
- fracktica, on 07/25/2008, -0/+3Check out "Quantum Entanglement" - particles are entangled with each other at instantaneous speed. But apparently you can't send information this way, which plays harmoniously with Einstein.
- SerifTheRobot, on 07/25/2008, -2/+5Just like we'll never go to the moon. We'll never fly. The Earth is the center of the universe. Computers are only for the richest kings.
We will find away around faster than light travel, and I am sure someone out there already has. - inactive, on 07/25/2008, -2/+4For fun, read these books written by ex-military, Ph.D's, doctors, and historians:
“The Day After Roswell”
“UFOs and the National Security State”
“The Threat”
“An Introduction to Planetary Defense: A Study of Modern Warfare Applied to Extra-Terrestrial Invasion”
“Apocalypse: 2012”
“The Gods of Eden”
Just for fun. Just to educate yourself a little. Then see what you think about the subject. - spinladen, on 07/26/2008, -0/+2God forbid anyone on Digg actually read up on Quantum Physics before they chime in.
- epohs, on 07/25/2008, -4/+5The fact that he says he "knows for certain" that we are not alone, but then uses the sighting of "unidentified" flying objects as proof undermines his credibility.
That said, I think we are not alone. - ordago, on 07/25/2008, -1/+3That´s just probability. Wich is ok but that doesnt mean they´ve visited us.
- utexas112, on 07/25/2008, -1/+3Wouldn't it be a great strategy, if you wanted to cover up the truth of something, to put out little red herrings, only to laugh at the public and call them crazy, all the while covering up a real occurrence? Wouldn't this case a shroud of doubt over the whole thing and thus, achieve the objective of keeping the truth from everyone?
- Eezyville, on 07/25/2008, -1/+3spinladen
I guess your being dugg down because people don't understand M-Theory. - utexas112, on 07/25/2008, -6/+8Dr. Mitchell is a credible source. Props to him for coming out and trying to clear up some of the muck. Having seen some type of unidentified flying object myself, I fully believe this guy.
Also props to the Geico lizard for taking time out of his busy schedule to interview him. - neFariou5, on 07/25/2008, -1/+3The interviewer is painful to listen to.
The summary of the interview is Edgar states the Roswell incident was real, but gives no further information about that other than he was debriefed over the incident. - timoumd, on 07/25/2008, -0/+2Still mass does increase towards infiinty as you go faster. That kinda makes travelling faster than the speed of like a bit harder...
- Necoras, on 07/25/2008, -0/+2IF there was a cover up (and that's a big if) then Area 51 would best be used as a diversionary tactic. Setup a "secret" base which has details "accidentally" leaked to the public for conspiracy nuts to play with. Meanwhile build 50 more actual secret bases, preferably underground where a casual fly over or satellite can't blow your secret.
Personally I'm of the South Park persuasion: There's no conspiracy, but the government is happy to let you think they're powerful enough to cover up something so massive. - BeefBaron, on 07/25/2008, -0/+2Christians "know for certain" that their God exists. We all know how that turned out.
That being said, I'm sure there is alien life out there, it just has better things to do than come to our tiny mud-sphere. - britoca, on 07/26/2008, -0/+2JESUS LIVES!!!
- feanix, on 07/25/2008, -1/+3Eh, if they were trying to keep UFOs and alien abductions a secret they havent done very well, have they? Area 51 is probably one of the worst kept secrets in western culture.
