Earth's Cries Recorded in Space

space.com — The sound is awful, a new recording from space reveals. Scientists have known about the radiation since the 1970s. It is created high above the planet, where charged particles from the solar wind collide with Earth's magnetic field. It is related to the phenomenon that generates the colorful aurora, or Northern Lights.

    This is just an interpretation of the waves we are emitting. Like how you can "see" green and purple videos of infrared footage, even though you can't SEE infrared waves.

    1) Unfiltered amplitude modulation (that is, 1:1 signal in to sound out); lost of losses in anything above the 18kHz bandwidth.
    2) FFT translation from received range to human-audible range (frequency compression from 2 Hz - 300 MHz)

The aliens in there sounded pretty similar to this recording! Plus, if you remember, those helicopters displaying the "beautiful" light patterns got blown up, so I'm pretty sure the aliens thought it sucked.
