- smitas, on 07/01/2008, -8/+44Its not cries, its a sound
- Robthefrog, on 07/01/2008, -1/+35Wish the guy would shut the ***** up so that I could hear the sound.
- AnotherDiggGuy, on 07/01/2008, -9/+28We can't let Al Gore know about this
- VVCephei, on 07/01/2008, -0/+19It's not even sound, it's radiation interpreted as sound.
- foshizol, on 07/01/2008, -1/+19My new obnoxious ring tone.
- leerayIG88, on 07/01/2008, -3/+20Hah...I guess that myth is busted. People can hear you scream in space.
- Willie0248, on 07/01/2008, -1/+16Earth's... cries? You mean the big inanimate rock Earth? The rock is talking?
What kind of new-age crap is this. It's radiation, which is pretty common in inanimate objects. - inactive, on 07/01/2008, -1/+14So glad that the sound didn't play Rick Astley half way through.
- soupdawg30, on 07/01/2008, -1/+13It scares away the Space Dragons.
- PabloMac, on 07/01/2008, -1/+12Who do you think discovered it? Not only that, he discovered that the earth sounds are human-caused.
- Myonosken, on 07/01/2008, -2/+13Tell that to Aeris.
- goyney, on 07/01/2008, -1/+12As if a million voices screamed out in terror and were suddenly silenced?
- MadEnvoy, on 07/01/2008, -1/+11*****. All planets have background sounds. This is far from new and the headline is sensationalist.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4CPMYDG2RE - bigd063, on 07/01/2008, -2/+11How long did you think we could keep harvesting the planet's Mako energy?
- inactive, on 07/01/2008, -2/+11Captain Planet, where are you?
- Kcaj, on 07/01/2008, -2/+11I think it is a mating call for huge asteroids and meteors. Mother earth is horny horny.
- deweyhewson, on 07/01/2008, -4/+11Did it sound something like this?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtPzScXRxhE - Wamzlee, on 07/01/2008, -1/+7That's it, I'm summoning Meteor.
- sparsely, on 07/01/2008, -1/+7I think it sounds pretty. Like bright white noise. I wish they hadn't talked over it the whole time :x
Anyone with an mp3 link to this sound (or the low-frequency hum of the earth) gets 2 million internets! - johnomaz, on 07/01/2008, -3/+8...how is it crying? Not like this is a sudden change because of global warming. Was the earth crying 500 years ago too. ***** hippies.
- Mewchu11, on 07/01/2008, -1/+6No, People can hear space scream at them. The myth was soviet russia'd
- InorganicMatter, on 07/01/2008, -1/+6Hold on a second, sound can't travel in space because there is no air to carry it.
This is just an interpretation of the waves we are emitting. Like how you can "see" green and purple videos of infrared footage, even though you can't SEE infrared waves. - Fordi, on 07/02/2008, -0/+4My, what an innocuous thing to get buried for.
- Sulzer, on 07/01/2008, -3/+7Whoa, Final Fantasy VII flashback...
- Fordi, on 07/02/2008, -1/+5Engineering project: Manipulate the magnetosphere so that 'Never Gonna Give You Up' is modulated in the outgoing AKR. Rickroll Alien Races for fun and profit!
On second thought, don't. First it's the Rickroll, then it's the advertisements. Aliens probably don't care about how refreshing Coca-cola's marketing team thinks their product is. - HastyBoom, on 07/01/2008, -3/+7The "sounds" are totally arbitrary.
This is just one of many ways to interperate the data. - dasmonki, on 07/01/2008, -1/+4what a dumb thing to say
- DeathGod321, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3Why's it gotta be black materia, huh?
- yournamehere, on 07/01/2008, -1/+4i find the announcer 'tom chow' more annoying than the sound.
- Fordi, on 07/02/2008, -1/+4True enough; I can think of two ways to translate a broad-spectrum signal just off the top of my head:
1) Unfiltered amplitude modulation (that is, 1:1 signal in to sound out); lost of losses in anything above the 18kHz bandwidth.
2) FFT translation from received range to human-audible range (frequency compression from 2 Hz - 300 MHz) - VSKBadCRC, on 07/01/2008, -1/+4I love the narration on the video, this guy couldn't sound more excited about what he's talking about if he tried.
- jjb123, on 07/01/2008, -5/+8Really?
- trollick, on 07/01/2008, -2/+5I'm shocked it didn't say that earth cries because of global warming.
- Fordi, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2You first, mate.
- hugoguzman, on 07/01/2008, -4/+6I always knew there was some truth to the song "The sky is crying"
- Dennisisok, on 07/01/2008, -2/+4Sounds like noise to me.
- WiseElben, on 07/01/2008, -2/+4It might sound "awful" to us, but it might just be the most majestic, mesmeric symphony to some alien. Independence Day, anyone? The aliens in there sounded pretty similar to this recording! Plus, if you remember, those helicopters displaying the "beautiful" light patterns got blown up, so I'm pretty sure the aliens thought it sucked.
- flashback99, on 07/01/2008, -0/+2what a dumb thing to say
- PabloMac, on 07/01/2008, -2/+4For all we know it could be the sound of the Earth laughing. At us.
- Asheis, on 07/01/2008, -2/+4That's pretty loaded language used in the title for something that's more like just a sound.
- mongoh8fire, on 07/01/2008, -1/+3Was the narrator Agent Smith?
- Wakkyweed, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Yes, fleischer, the article was all about the Earth literally crying out in it's pain from being raped by Republicans and big corporations. It's amazing how you were able to figure out the agenda of us Liberal Hippy Pinko types by only reading the title.
- flashback99, on 07/01/2008, -1/+2people should really stop praying so loudly.
- DrVermin, on 07/01/2008, -2/+3I HAVE A FEEEEEVER!
- tpfaff, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1haha...its genius.
- JakeyG14, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1***** all you's, I'm calling AVALANCHE.
- TheImaginator, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Highly inaccurate and misleading title - but I do like the idea that alien folks oculd be listening for sounds coming from planets like ours.
So long as those alien folks are nothing like Bush. - itcoll, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1it took so long to record the sound ?
- BigBenKlingon, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1That's dope, thanks!
