IT'S = IT IS. - acormon, on 08/18/2008, -5/+38I blame Barack Obama.
Change we can believe in? My compass says otherwise. - andstone, on 08/18/2008, -0/+20omfg. We need to drill into The Core of Earth and set off a series of nuclear explosions in order to restart the rotation of Earth's core!
... "The Core". - AnotherDiggGuy, on 08/18/2008, -3/+20If you listen to coast to coast am, then you've probably heard about this before. The experts usually discuss the flipping of the north and south magnetic poles and say it's has happened many times before, and most likely is the cause of the rapid environmental changes that seem to occur every 10,000 years. What havoc it would create. Birds flying into walls, airplanes crashing, compasses spinning uncontrollably, and auras extending down to the equator. Pure madness.

- stevetrojanman, on 08/18/2008, -1/+15I personally blame Bush...
If *****'s going wrong, Bush is behind it...
I learned that from digg - smitas, on 08/18/2008, -5/+16Everything is changing, so why can't earth?
- BevansDesign, on 08/18/2008, -1/+12We must never give up the fight. We must press on. If we waver in our goal, even for a moment, grammar as we know it may fall.
Grammar Knight Tybee, I salute thee! - FadieZ, on 08/18/2008, -4/+14Cue the 2012 conspiracy nuts
- wynja, on 08/18/2008, -4/+14The simple fact that there are not mass extinctions every 10,000 years should eliminate your concern that this will cause the end of days.
- ASSASSYN360, on 08/18/2008, -0/+9I have come up with an innovative approach to this problem. We must drill to the center of Earth's core and set up a ring of nuclear explosives to jump start the core. I obviously will be going on this historical journey. I need 1 hot chick who presses buttons and complains, one highly intelligent person whom will provide logical solutions, another highly intelligent person whom will more than likely get us killed (there is always one who ***** it up for everyone). I will also need a person whom has a relatively low I.Q. but has superior piloting skills for the potentially doomed craft. By the way I already got a guy whom will sacrifice himself for the team because he feels his overall contribution has been negligible thus saving the day leaving us to celebrate in the end.

If that happened there would be no Digg.
"I don't know what to believe in any more"
Believe and do everything I tell you. You can start by telling me your bank account number. - clayasaurus, on 08/18/2008, -2/+8This is a classic tactic to turn anything that may be credible and make it not credible, also known as death by association. 2012 (sort of credible) vs. Religion (not credible).
Or, an attempt to keep conspiracy thinkers 'in-line' by turning them into religious sheep.
What a psy-op, eh? - inactive, on 08/18/2008, -1/+79/11 was an INSIDE JOB? How Dare you!!

- D1ckFace, on 08/19/2008, -0/+5there is evidence in the past of the earths magnetic field reversing - embedded in the rock of steens mountain the earth's magnetic field rotated over 8 days. http://creationontheweb.com/content/view/1233/
- puppyfox, on 08/18/2008, -0/+5Paleomagnetic Reversal: when Geology 101 becomes news. (The paleo- part is really the study of the old reversals as they are etched in the magnetic materials in rocks, but it's an awesome name nonetheless)
- kh99, on 08/18/2008, -0/+5According to the article, the last reversal was 780,000, not 10,000, years ago. Also, the article only talks about danger to satellite electronics.
- DSM93, on 08/19/2008, -0/+5I saw a special on Discovery or History channel awhile back that was about the magnetic field flipping. Scientists said it has never happened while humans were around, were are something like 150,000 years over do for a polar flip. When it does happen your compass won't point north because there will be multiple poles. The aurora will be viewable all around the world. Solar radiation will increase a lot. Just too bad it'll take a long time for the flip to complete, I won't be alive the experience it. Whether or not that is a good thing, who knows. I'd recommend trying to find that special, it was really interesting.

- noen, on 08/18/2008, -0/+4Yeah, all those... facts and *****. And all that knowledge... who needs that?
Psssst... Have I got a deal on a sure thing just for you. You'll make millions! Just tell me your bank account number first. - VivaNOLA, on 08/19/2008, -0/+4Come on Mr. Gore...I'm waiting for it...tell me how this is all my fault

And lo he bent over and let forth a mighty wind.
All the beasts of the field and the fish in the sea
verily a third perished and another third flipped on their backs
And so began the first magnetic flip.

"He who smelled it must surely have dealt it." - Subcranium, on 08/18/2008, -1/+4it's != its
- TrueBlueJP90, on 08/18/2008, -2/+5I remember learning about this in freshman earth science. Well, not that it's happening now, but that it has happened in the past. It's a natural phenomenon, and everything will either adapt or die. Judging by previous occurrences, we're more likely to survive. You have to love natural selection.
- Evolutuon, on 08/18/2008, -0/+3As long as our magnetic field doesn't disappear altogether we're fine.
- bwebb, on 08/18/2008, -2/+5Awesome. I logged in to digg that up.
