- whygohome10, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9dang, I respect people who do that.
- shakin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9That's not ironic, it's a coincidence.
- neongoat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Someone explain the significance of this publication in layman terms please.
- edzieba, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This is proof that the gamma-ray source in M87 is a concentrated source in the heart of the radio lobes making the probability they it harbours a supermassive black hole very very high. Previously, it was thought that the gamma rays could have originated from any one (or more) of many potential sites.
IANAA (I am not an astrophysicist) - nitsuj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Gamma rays!?!
Hulk smash black hole... - manageMyRights, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Modifying your theory in light of new evidence is the basis of the scientific method. Nothing in science is "true". It's just the simplest explanation given the available evidence.
In this case, new evidence of the source of gamma-rays confirms the existing theory of a super-massive black hole in M87. - erikerikerik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1interesting.
I've know about Gama rays leaking from black-holes for some time now.
my source? Discovery Channel, circa' late 1990's.
oh how old news is born again new on digg. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Ironically, we're currently learning about gamma rays in my astronomy class. My professor talks like everything about the science is true, but then he goes into examples of how astronomers keep changing what they think is real. I'll talk to him on Tuesday about this discovery.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Hey, as long as we're learning more about black holes, I'm interested.

My favorite song by this band. Get "Blast from the Past" if you like power/hair metal. - crilen007, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4A PHD in pain and a Masters in disaster?
