- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+29Galaxies come in many shapes, including spherical.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18As they've been spinning over the last few billion years, they generally don't have enough gravity to maintain a spherical shape, so as they spin they flatten out and eventually the star systems on the outer fringes break free of the diminishing pull from whatever is at the center of the galaxy (supermassive black holes).
- rodrigo74, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16I thought the cosmic background radiation was detected by satellites as COBE and matched very well with the predictions...wasn't the Nobel Prize of Physics this year awarded to the guys who worked on this?
I also heard on NPR's Science Friday that newer measurements were taken lately and the results were even better.
Regading your second comment, about galaxies being found out of place every 6 months, I'd appreciate if you mentioned the source for that. - rodrigo74, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Gravitation theory = spontaneous falling AKA *****.

Scientific theories don't exist to fulfill yours (or mine) philosophy. - FallibleDragon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"Saved" does not imply "immune to all future threats"; just that a previous threat has been neutralised.
- ABadInAlbany, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6not to mention, interaction with other massive stellar constructs distorts their shape as well.
- CatalystGhost, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6@wrldpc
I love the huge ranting hatred followed by "worldpeace". Right after "*****". Nice one, dumbass. Get the ***** out with your irrelevant ranting *****. - Llan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Why do these dreadful Physorg articles keep getting posted? There are science sites that manage to correctly cite their sources and link to them. Physorg is, to put it plain, *****.

Please specify how you came to this figure.
"... and even if you think that the big bang happened, where do you think the bang came from, nowhere?"
Nobody knows.
"This theory is illogical and idiotic (and yes it is just a theory, its not even scientific, if you don't believe me, I challenge you to reproduce the big bang.)"
Yet you don't give any good reason whatsoever for why it is illogical and idiotic. The evidence we have points to it happening. If you have evidence to the contrary then please share it.
Asking 21st century humans to recreate a universe is obviously a very silly suggestion indeed. - starmanjones, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1>"This theory is illogical and idiotic (and yes it
>is just a theory, its not even scientific, if you
>don't believe me, I challenge you to reproduce
>the big bang.)"
i don't think the big bang... was in question. just the exact details.
i actually think they are going to attempt this next year. i frankly have some misgivings. but the folks doing it are confident that if they are successful it will exist in our universe about as long as it takes to see if it happened before spinning off into some other existence.
i love how god grants wisdom. more wisdom than going to school half your life to understand concepts that can only be described with math complex that only a few hundred humans understand. i bet they'd appreciated you tell them it was stupid and idiotic. *chuckles to self* - sypha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not only that but galaxies distort by other multi-dimensional factors that exist in conjunction with our perceivable perspective of the Universe that we have yet to understand. Gravity is just the remanence of a much more massive force that leaks in our dimension from within another dimensional state. Hence why we perceive it as a weak force. The 5th dimension behaves as a charged dimension in which all mass is thought of as an actual 'charge' than just weight of a physical particle or wave. Through Gravity we should be able to channel between dimensions to understand what lies behind the scenery of our dimension, imagine how warped the other dimensions might be. We can see them logically but in it's actuality we do not see it as of yet. Talk about 11 Dimensions. lol
- ZenMojo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2"But there are inconsistencies with the amount of Helium 3 predicted to be in the universe and the amount that's actually there; there's much less than expected."
That's a ***** impressive mass spectrometer. Lucky for us scientists are nice enough not to turn the dial to Au, point it at the ground, and get filthy ***** rich.
"WE DON'T HAVE HOVERCARS AND CLEAN MAGNETIIC/ELECTRIC VEHICLES."
Either blame Big Oil or check the internet because I sure as Hell know where to find those. - masterofnada, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I think this is wrong. The probability that the universe was created by an explosion that did not collapse back on itself is so great its unimaginable. (somewhere near 1 x 10^45) Its insanity; and even if you think that the big bang happened, where do you think the bang came from, nowhere? This theory is illogical and idiotic (and yes it is just a theory, its not even scientific, if you don't believe me, I challenge you to reproduce the big bang.)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Surely you're joking Dr. Fenyman,
PhysOrg is the dao. - Dimensio, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1"Big Bang Theory = Spontaneous Generation AKA *****."
I believe that you have mistakenly assumed that declaring that the Big Bang theory is "equal" to spontaneous generation actually demonstrates that such an equality is correct. If that is the case, then you are mistaken. The Big Bang theory is not "spontaneous generation", and as such your conclusion is faulty. - pratikmehta9, on 10/12/2007, -8/+0only test
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -14/+4Big Bang Theory = Spontaneous Generation AKA *****.
Things assemble themselves bit by bit. - 8Dan, on 10/12/2007, -18/+7the title is a little misleading, there are loads more problems to solve before the theory is saved. Like, why is cosmic background radiation so uniform? and the fact that every 6 months or so galaxies that are far too young or old for there region are found.
- ChuckFreck, on 10/12/2007, -16/+5Yes, this exactly matches the results of a computer model. It must be correct.
- bushy, on 10/12/2007, -17/+5... Still Under Attack From Jesus
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -17/+4ONE HUGE EGO FIELD MAN.... scientific experiments that do not account for the physics within which they are enmeshed cannot claim objectivity... you CANNOT JUST SOLVE FOR X and negate the importance of things as massive as "speed of Earth's flight, gravitational influence of planets, solar momentum, etc. etc. etc."
You know the difference between here and here is massive? No. Good.
sure everything is relative but there is a degree of relativity. subjection and the egotism HAS TO GO.
Do you know the difference between genius and *****? Genius ... TRUE GENIUS is the ability to RECOGNIZE GENIUS.
Do you know HOW many people are capable of genius?
EVERYONE.
It's what your ***** lucky parents projected on most of you at an early age ... they projected this aura of "this ***** is SMART" on you ... not that you actually WERE but the projection was enough for you to fake it so that you could make it and don't get me started on your *****.
WE DON'T HAVE TELEPORTATION SUITABLE FOR HUMAN BEINGS YET.
WE DON'T HAVE HOVERCARS AND CLEAN MAGNETIIC/ELECTRIC VEHICLES.
I CAN'T SUMMON A DIFFERENT BABE EVERY NIGHT OF THE WEEK OUT OF MY COMPUTER INTO REAL LIFE FLESH AND THEN DISMISS HER INTO THE ABYSS OF THE MATRIX THE NEXT MORNING.
Get to work.
Or do you want these computers to embarass you whence they reach sentience?
Or whatever you consider sentient.
Everything is intelligent. Even that dumb speck of dust floating in the maw of space on the edge of our solar system. If you seek to contradict that last statement then ***** you. You close the door on your own face.
*****.
