- ghostfish, on 05/15/2008, -1/+5I prefer M104, but that's just me.
- Flamancot, on 05/15/2008, -1/+6u r the coolest ever
- bouche, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2I've got news for you. There is an RSS feed of APOD images that you can subscribe to and spare us from seeing these images posted on Digg every goddamn day. yeesh! who's with me?
- lalop, on 05/15/2008, -1/+3I guess "sideways" in this case refers to the fact that we are seeing the galaxy from one side, as opposed to seeing it as an ellipse (in case there was some tilt)
- Mr.Gone, on 05/15/2008, -1/+4Isn't "sideways" kind of a subjective term. It may be sideways to us, but to the inhabitants of NGC 3628, we are the sideways ones.
- inactive, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1Reminds me of a room mates underwear....
- Palscience1, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1Nice Picture.
- JonTheGoose, on 05/15/2008, -3/+4But to the little green aliens living in that galaxy, we're the ones who are sideways.
- toleshei, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1Sombrero FTW!
- sparcher, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1Dugg for being plain right!
- DavidTTT, on 05/15/2008, -1/+2Dude it like in space and stuff
- GiggleStick, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1It's my Apple II desktop.
- GiggleStick, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1Even more interesting is this site that has all kinds of pictures of the galaxy, including X-Ray:
http://images.google.com/images?q=ngc%203628%20x-r ...
It's one of my favorite sites... - twertyto, on 05/15/2008, -0/+2The halo of a galaxy is typically far too faint to see in most standard visible light images.
- noseeme, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1You mean a bunch of child actors' reactions.
- theOster, on 05/15/2008, -2/+4i think it kinda sucks honestly - the only vid i could find is of a bunch of kids' reactions. so when it was released tues, i dl'd it and tried it out. couldn't see a damn thing. poked around briefly here and there and finally hit the little down arrow in the lower right that (apparently) means "show stuff". the interface is very non-intuitive (but was hyped as "very intuitive"). i thought it was supposed to fly me through dust clounds and i could see things in 3D, but nope. (or i could just be "not-doing-it-right"). googles sky feature is pretty much the same with a better interface AND google earth!
- inactive, on 05/15/2008, -2/+4What defines sideways or any set of direction in Space? Unless this is relative to our own galaxy, the galaxy is straight and not sideways. There really isn't a concrete 3D set of directions out there (you could go up but also be going down at the same time).
- meowmeowkitty, on 05/21/2008, -0/+0very kewl
- twertyto, on 05/15/2008, -1/+1Not necessarily. How we see that galaxy would be the same if we were edge-on or face-on to their line of sight.
- albinotron, on 05/15/2008, -0/+0too bad i can't see beautiful pictures like this when i click on the "world & business" tab.
- sweeththangnga, on 05/16/2008, -0/+0It's so easy to forget how beautiful space really is.
- OMnicient, on 05/15/2008, -0/+0... and to think all the stars we see as "background" of the picture are actually between us and the galaxy.
- OMnicient, on 05/15/2008, -0/+0Truly subjective... just considering what I see happening around me, I'd have to conclude that WE are the ones off-kilter.
- noseeme, on 05/15/2008, -2/+1Typicall digg comment:
Oh, that reminds me of *insert video game name here*! - TheNatMan, on 05/15/2008, -3/+2*Insert obligatory comment regarding the horizontality of vaginas prevalent in women of East Asian descent*
- Anomaly100, on 05/15/2008, -1/+0Thanks! I tried to download it but it said I need a 3D and DirectX and since I dont know muuch about computers, that's where I got stumped but I'll figure it out in time. I appreciate the info.
- noseeme, on 05/15/2008, -2/+1Another good picture of a white dwarf star:

Kinda cool! - FunyGirl, on 05/15/2008, -1/+0cool
- techprophet, on 05/15/2008, -2/+1Exactly. There is no direction in space. Everything is relative depending on what you perceive as 'down' (or up).
- plhofmei, on 05/15/2008, -3/+1But I want to see it from the top angle! Can we rotate the image somehow so we can see the top?!?! ;)
- jordanmerle, on 05/15/2008, -3/+1Wasn't this the galaxy around Orion's Belt in Men In Black?
- Bactame, on 05/15/2008, -6/+4Where's the halo? Maybe i'm confused but shouldn't there be a halo of open clusters and such like.
- synyster, on 05/15/2008, -4/+2thats so cool, reminds me of eve
- buffyangel108, on 05/15/2008, -5/+0I would.
- BXRWXR, on 05/15/2008, -6/+1I see what you did there.
- danielsan1701, on 05/15/2008, -9/+2It's my Mac desktop.
