Astronomers Baffled by Bizarre Star

news.aol.com — Astronomers are baffled after a pulsar apparently locked in an elongated orbit around a star much like the sun - an arrangement defying what had been known about such objects. "The big question is: how in the heck did this thing form, because it doesn't follow our standard models..." said Scott Ransom of the NRAO in Charlottesville, Virginia.

  • mgmirkin, on 05/18/2008, -1/+1According to the Standard Model, this star system should not exist in its current state. Does this falsify the Standard Model of stellar evolution, if that's so? Or, have we completely abandoned real science and Karl Popper's "falsifiability?" It's a tough but fair and necessary question with respect to today's sciences and their credibility. There seem to be too many "surprises" and things "not predicted by or possible to predict out of current models."
