- hollywoodphony, on 01/24/2008, -3/+33Can we shoot Ben Affleck at this thing?
- ronpaulfan, on 01/24/2008, -6/+32DON'T FREAK OUT! IT WON'T HIT US!
The conspiracies arose from the lack of media coverage. Apparently a tiny meteor maybe hitting Mars is 10000 times more important than a big-ass meteor maybe hitting earth.
WE KNOW IT WON'T HIT BUT 2 MONTHS AGO THEY WEREN'T SURE - Abyssal, on 01/24/2008, -12/+36There is obvious media blackout about this, however this isn't the only thing being blacked out ;)
- staja2, on 01/24/2008, -2/+21I guess that's better than 100% closer...
- KaiUno, on 01/24/2008, -1/+20Looks more like you're freaking out about not freaking out.
- inactive, on 01/24/2008, -3/+19ZOMFG!! Time for panic sex. We're all gonna die!!! (one day..)
Interesting media blackout though... - KnightMareInc, on 01/24/2008, -16/+32buried for adding your ron paul spam
- Checkerd, on 01/24/2008, -3/+18EVERYBODY PANIC!!!
- Devotia, on 01/24/2008, -3/+17Hasn't this been completely debunked enough times already?
- notque, on 01/24/2008, -7/+19Thank god that Top Diggers have been reigned in. I am exciting for more Ron Paul spam.
- TyroPyro, on 01/24/2008, -5/+15Yes, please stop posting comments and return to the hivemind
- ParanoydAndroid, on 01/24/2008, -0/+9DON'T PANIC.
As long as everybody has their towel, we'll be fine. - wibambau, on 01/24/2008, -2/+11This is potentially earth shattering information.
- RandomGorilla, on 01/24/2008, -1/+10I can picture God with a slingshot going "Okay, just a couple more degrees to the right and I'll have it."
- TyroPyro, on 01/24/2008, -2/+9Jesus Christ man
- slightlygifted, on 01/24/2008, -1/+7its not that big of a deal. as for nothing on cnn or fox then im fine with that because id rather not have religious fanatics outside my house shouting "repent the end is near."
- KaiUno, on 01/24/2008, -1/+7You're forgetting there's oodles of time for it to happen. It has several times already, causing mass exctinctions on our fragile little rock. Don't forget, we got this nifty band of asteroids all around us at the edge of the solar system, like a giant pool table waiting for something to hit one in the right direction.
Heck, even the moon isn't safe from it. See the craters on it? Impact craters.
Your knowledge of astronomy is basic indeed. It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when. - rory096, on 01/24/2008, -1/+7"Why isn't any media reporting this? Why are all the world's elite in bomb-proof Switzerland?"
Maybe for the Davos Economic Forum, which happens every year? And what makes you think Switzerland is bomb-proof? - Tinendo, on 01/24/2008, -1/+6Panic sex is a very good idea!
- Sogui, on 01/24/2008, -7/+12This Ron Paul forum ***** is getting old... they control a lot of the articles that are hitting the front page.
THIS IS NOT HOW DIGG IS SUPPOSED TO WORK - inactive, on 01/24/2008, -2/+7yeah they were.
- HotGore, on 01/24/2008, -1/+6Obviously the CoS moved it closer.
- avenu420, on 01/24/2008, -0/+5Ya. William Wallace grabbed it with his bare hands and shook it to death.
- Dylson, on 01/24/2008, -2/+7No.
- Checkerd, on 01/24/2008, -1/+6ok...
- vbullinger, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4You're right: that's never happened before. Those craters on the moon don't exist. Nothing ever slammed into the Yucatan Peninsula, etc, etc.
You have to remember that most movement is based off of gravitational pull.
Every object has gravitational pull to everything else. Things are supposed to collide. - localzuk, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4You also don't have much knowledge of chaos theory then... It is always a possibility.
- dmadzak, on 01/24/2008, -1/+5No, but read the quote "it will have no effect on us at all". What do you want the media to say BREAKING NEWS!!!! Asteroid flies by Earth. Leading NASA scientist exclaims "It won’t come anywhere near enough to hit us, and it will have no effect on us at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
- whatever01, on 01/24/2008, -1/+5Is NASA in the Constitution?
- THEROC, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4He would like to cut all government funding for it.
- Tippis, on 01/24/2008, -1/+5Even if we miss, and even it *is* misses, it's a win for everyone!
- valkyries, on 01/24/2008, -2/+5RP wants to cut all federal funding to NASA so how is he our only hope?
- Takran, on 01/24/2008, -1/+4Emo much?
- gijoel, on 01/24/2008, -1/+4DON'T PANIC
- laterthandawn, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3Wait...who's Ron Paul?
- IronGoldfish, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3The solar system = nature's pool table
- wibambau, on 01/24/2008, -1/+4ohnoes.. the sky is falling!
- raeshao, on 01/24/2008, -1/+4You just realized this now?
- BossKey, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3"Asteroid TU24, why aren't you at your post?"
- Wacer, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3I wish the news would have been: "Scientists Adjust Trajectory and Discover that Tu24 is Going to Hit the Moon". That would have been a site to see.
- porplem, on 01/24/2008, -1/+4"It won’t come anywhere near enough to hit us, and it will have no effect on us at all."
Umm that's why. - xpose, on 01/24/2008, -3/+6I bet its closer to hitting Uranus than previously thought.
- Sogui, on 01/24/2008, -4/+7This was linked from the Ron Paul forums, the Ronbots are swarming here... Burying is imminent
- ninephoenixes, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3*sigh*
Did the submitter even read the damn article before going on a schizophrenia-induced rant? *****'s gonna miss us by a mile. 334,000 of them, actually.
And even if it *was* going to 8-ball us into the sun, what good would it do to report it on the news? We wouldn't have any way to stop it. It would just freak people the ***** out if they knew. - mrsharpoblunto, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2in 2007 NASA spending accounted for around 0.58% of the federal budget, I'd hardly say that space exploration is bankrupting the US. Besides the space program has produced many offshoot technologies that benefit society as a whole, for example kidney dialysis or medical imaging systems for detecting breast cancer. What have the countless billions poured into recent US invasions contributed to mankind recently?
Yes man has managed without space travel for most of his history, but he also managed without computers, modern medicine, and a whole lot of other stuff that I'm happy we have today. The private sector is only beginning to gain the capability to make inroads into space exploration, I expect NASA will be the main driver for innovation and exploration in space for a few years yet. - lex0nyc, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2There aren't enough towels to save America from itself, sir.
- lex0nyc, on 01/24/2008, -1/+3Shields up, Keptin?
- rory096, on 01/24/2008, -1/+3Notrly. You must not have been reading Digg lately. Absinthe is now legal in the US because it turns out they didn't use wormwood after all.
- davewashere, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2It's funny that our all-knowing founding fathers lacked the foresight to include a NASA provision in the Constitution.
- YumYumKittyLoaf, on 01/24/2008, -2/+4I honestly don't think most of these random, stupid Ron Paul outbursts I see on digg are actual supporters, because I support RP and will vote for him if I can, but I never see any reason to say "VOTE Ron Paul!" because most diggers already know about it and it's just being counter-productive.
