- Moment, on 11/09/2008, -0/+16We're all a bunch of ants, roaming around on top of a blue ball floating in ***** knows what, killing each other over ridiculously expensive Gucci bags. That's what we are, and that's what we do.
- HenvY, on 11/09/2008, -0/+15How do you make a 1680x1050 version out of a 1120x1680 original and have it not look like crap?
- jwolcott, on 11/09/2008, -1/+16Mouna Kea, Hawaii: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mauna_Kea
"The summit of Mauna Kea has been a celestial observatory since ancient times, and is considered to be one of the best astronomical sites in the world. For this reason it is home to many of the world's leading astronomical observatories. The summit is above approximately 40% of Earth's atmosphere and 90% of the water vapor, allowing for exceptionally clear images of the night sky. Additionally, the peak is well above the inversion layer, allowing up to 300 clear nights per year. Also, at 20°N latitude, much of both the northern and southern skies are visible." - EserVerx, on 11/09/2008, -1/+15That's because it isn't. It's actually viral marketing for the next cloverfield movie. Did you not notice the set of glowing eyes in the water? BUM BUM BUM!!!

- klitzbtc, on 11/09/2008, -0/+4The stretching doesn't look bad on the ground, but a lot of the stars now look like UFOS.
- redwolf088, on 11/10/2008, -0/+3ummmm..... I know that this is an awesome picture but if you look at one of the clouds at the bottom of the picture looks like a man screaming in pain. Isn't that just a little messed up? Once again I must say it is still an amazing picture.
- akifbayram, on 11/09/2008, -1/+4Photoshop CS4 and Content Aware Scaling?
- TheOneTrueGod, on 11/09/2008, -0/+3Dugg. But keep in mind: Every time you shoot the air, a bird dies.
- bone625, on 11/09/2008, -0/+3Yeah, this is definitely not one exposure or picture.. but he really did an amazing job and shopping everything together. I took a trip to Mauna Kea recently and it really is a mind blowing experience, especially for photography. I was just starting out when I took these pictures, and there was almost a full moon which unfortunately washed out a lot of the sky. But this gives a good idea of what it's like up there:

Just to give you an idea of how bright the lava can be against a dark sky (I have some that are even overexposed):

- toastmonster, on 11/09/2008, -1/+3Reminds you how thin the atmosphere really is
- MrChunks, on 11/09/2008, -0/+2That is stunning!
- Torx, on 11/09/2008, -0/+2To think, each of those stars might have planets revolving around them.. simply amazing.
- warriorscot, on 11/09/2008, -0/+2Doesn't look quite as good, the res on the orginal image is a bit low for doing that.
- ch4os1337, on 11/09/2008, -1/+3That commercial is *****.
- AutoTom, on 11/09/2008, -0/+2i actually couldnt help but saying ''wow'' out loud.

- specialcases, on 11/09/2008, -1/+3Im digging you up for using a 90's phrase
- KISSOLOGY, on 02/16/2009, -0/+2That looks like carp. Some of the stars are rectangles.
- ch4os1337, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2@doublefelix
Yeah I did make it... and I know the stars aren't perfect, but it doesn't look terrible.
@akifbayram
You are right on. - Qeveren, on 11/09/2008, -0/+2The Sun does tend to wash out the stars, oddly enough.
- kidwithsword, on 11/09/2008, -0/+1Isn't that just the sky?
