- dmadip, on 03/20/2008, -0/+612 million for the study to figure out where to put them... fantastic!
- NiX0n, on 03/20/2008, -1/+7From the dark side of the moon?
- jrak, on 03/20/2008, -0/+5I wonder how NASA would deal with the constant exposure to highly abrasive moon dust by human builders or machines. Similar to the effects of freshly crystallized volcanic ash, this stuff is nasty.

- Mootabolife, on 03/20/2008, -0/+3Why not put one gigantic non-radio telescope on the moon?
- Drakk0n, on 03/20/2008, -0/+3Well you have to realize $10million of that went to Pink Floyd who came on to the development team and suggested "The Dark Side"
- Shawshanksr, on 03/20/2008, -1/+4im sure they can spy on us much easier on earth
- imbatman05, on 03/20/2008, -0/+2Veh interesting, thanks
- saleem, on 03/20/2008, -1/+3because the initial moon landings were DISGUSTINGLY costly, had almost unlimited budgets from the federal bank.
Why? To show US scientific superiority over the Soviets. Once we had the milestone, and as the competition dwindled and the USSR imploded, NASA's budget has shrunk and shrunk. There's been no money or national need to go back. - robertgoodwin, on 03/20/2008, -0/+2The SETI community has been advocating this idea for at least a couple of decades now.
- evilregis, on 03/20/2008, -0/+2If the moon were made of cheese, would ya eat it?
- filefly, on 03/20/2008, -0/+2It's a simple question, Norm. A baby could answer it.
- illt, on 03/20/2008, -0/+2Optical telescopes on the darkside of the moon would be cool.
- stretch611, on 03/20/2008, -0/+1Homer Simpson (while drooling): "Aaggghhhrr, moon cheese..."
- pond70, on 03/20/2008, -0/+1a farm that will grow telescopes .... is there nothing America cant do!!!!! USA USA USA ...!
- phre3k187, on 03/20/2008, -0/+1go back to reddit
- daedalus779, on 03/20/2008, -1/+2Since the first moon landing of Apollo 11, there HAVE been more missions. Apollo 14 through 17 all put more people on the moon. Is there really a need for people to be go back?
- LightningCount, on 03/20/2008, -0/+1Excellent, now we can finally begin investigating the strange markings on Morgan Freeman's face.
- ByteGuerilla, on 03/20/2008, -0/+1Telescopes won't grow *****.
- aladrin, on 03/20/2008, -1/+1Oh, I doubt the publicly known telescopes will be used for that... Too many scientists will be lined up to take advantage of them. It'll be the ones that we don't know they are installing at the same time that will be used for spying.
I'm not normally a conspiracy theorist, but just like satellites, the opportunity here is too good for them to pass up. - BCCM, on 03/21/2008, -0/+0Not again. This looks like one of those missions, like the DAWN mission to asteroids Ceres and Vesta; BCC Meteorites exposed as pure quackery on SCIFRAUD.

SRD - stretch611, on 03/20/2008, -1/+1I was thinking of something similar. The much thinner atmosphere of the moon allows for more meteor strikes which is why the lunar surface is full of craters. How will the telescope farm be protected from space debris?
- Fufkin, on 03/20/2008, -0/+0Dugg because the word "farm" makes this sound twice as cool.
- offthewagon, on 03/20/2008, -1/+1that's what they TELL you. in reality they build a couple extra on the bright side and cover them with sticks and brush so you can't see them.
- filefly, on 03/20/2008, -3/+2I'd be much more excited if there was a lunar cheese-drilling rig.
"Everyone knows the moon is made of cheese!" - Wallace and Gromit - atharh, on 03/20/2008, -3/+2But wouldn't they have to put the telescopes on the far side of the moon to reduce signals coming from Earth? So ability to eavesdrop is impractical.
- imbatman05, on 03/20/2008, -3/+1Button Moon!!
/UK children's TV orientated - gnoshme, on 03/20/2008, -4/+2This is stupid. Telescopes cannot be solidly mounted to cheese.
- Shawshanksr, on 03/20/2008, -6/+3why havent there been any more missions to the moon since the first moon landing?? (assuming its real)
- phenom2k7, on 03/20/2008, -5/+1There's probably more cheese on your ***** then there is on the moon mate.
- JSager, on 03/20/2008, -7/+2How is it going to help us observe the heavens if we put a bunch of telescopes on a Hollywood sound stage?
- snoogit, on 03/20/2008, -5/+0*grk* *hunghgh* *Brak* *tweeennngggg*
The Moon landings were real dammit!!!!!!!!! - offthewagon, on 03/20/2008, -9/+3< conspiracy theory>just another way for the government to spy on us< /conspiracy theory>
- moviefreakusa, on 03/20/2008, -8/+2OLD NEWS: http://digg.com/space/MIT_NASA_to_Put_Telescopes_O ...
- DErallde, on 03/20/2008, -7/+1Aliens, there in the other side, everyone knows it, the government just tries to cover it up with fake moon landings and "ideas" for lunar observatories.
