- ngageguy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+83is it me or does this look just like the royal noir theme that was on Digg the other day as a "hidden xp theme"?
- estvir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+36I posted a screenshot in the other thread so here it is again.
http://blog.carbonscoring.com/images/screenshots/zune-style_theme.jpg - Yes, it's wide because I have dual monitors.
That's the wallpaper it comes with and aside from that and the actual visual style I haven't noticed anything else yet. And no, there are no colour schemes in the drop down box, just the default. - JeremyBanks, on 10/12/2007, -7/+32It's brownish. I actually quite like it.
- alwaysmc2, on 10/12/2007, -6/+29@ 23r17i05o42n
Are you just another Linux zealot? - Biker803, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24Yeah, it's pretty much the same thing, except the start button is orange and a few arrows and such that were green in Royale Noir are now orange. There's a few other minor differences, too. I think I like the Zune theme better.
- sahaskatta, on 10/12/2007, -11/+33it looks just like the "Noir" theme which was pretty good, except for the bugs
This is pretty good too, however i hate the ORANGE START button! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20widescreens are really nice too. Increased my productivity by 50% (*made up, but cool sounding statistic)
- Nanobe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1823r17i05o42n will troll on any subject. I don't think he's ever posted a comment that hasn't been buried.
- hevnsnt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Incase you missed it: Royal Noir Theme that everyone is talking about:
http://www.istartedsomething.com/20061029/royale-noir/ - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13I actually like MS themes, install without 3rd party bloatware.... To bad if they wanted to they could easily release an Aero skin that would run on any windowsxp desktop... =D
- vvvv, on 10/12/2007, -13/+24I'm white, but my skin is very tan from golfing a lot, so I feel I can relate to Hispanics and persons of African ancestry and what-have-you. As such, I think the Zune's brown color scheme is a step forward in integrating technology with minorities in American society. What's more, the prominent use of black in the Zune desktop theme is a refreshing change of pace from the whites and light greys so common on computer screens today.
Taking these facts into consideration along with Bill Gates' generous funding of AIDS research and microfinance in developing countries and one can only conlcude that Microsoft is the one technology company that is really doing something to benefit minorities. IPod commercials may have hip-hop soundtracks, but Apple's got no soul. - jexdawg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Thanks - Annoying that you can't preview before download (or, if you can, it's still annoyingly inaccesable). But the theme looks good. Why is it that 3rd party people can't make these? Windows copyright or something silly like that?
- alwaysmc2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I lol'd!
- randomvictim, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12The only thing I don't like is this awful orange start button. It should be dark brown if anything.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11it's not the same, but it is very close. the main difference is it is much easier to install.
- themadhatter444, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9What's that you've got to make the system clock look like that? Is it 3rd party? Agreed on the dual monitors. I've got them at work and love the hell out of them. Thanks for posting the SS. Call me crazy, but I'm digg'n the orange start button, man!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13Apple is for honkies.
- joel8x, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Orange is the new black you unfashionable nerds!
Seriously, I actually like the orange button - it matches my Firefox icon right next to it. - y2kboy23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I'm using it right now and no complaints yet. I'm liking it a lot and am using it as my default now.
- SirBryce, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10If it's not that much different from the royale noir, then I'll just keep that.
I don't like the idea of having installers for xp themes. - nvidiafx, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12direct link to the theme: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=75078
- uncleLeo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7you need to download orca and edit the msi, delete the section under launcher where it says ((NT 5) and (>=SP2)) then you can run it fine (it worked for me)...
if someone can host it i'll send you the msi that works - mclove, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I believe theme files have to be signed by Microsoft in order to be (easily) installed, hence the lack of third-party offerings.
- Nodren, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6foolfromhell:
dual monitor is like standard for anyone doing web development work, at my office we have 13 employees and 6 of them have a dual monitor setup. and most of us with dual monitor setups at work also have something similar at home too. its such a nice thing to have for editing a page and viewing it at the same time. - Mandeep, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10looks like a halloween theme to me
- masterspy7, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11I hate the damn orange start menu button! It seems like it's "lit up", to alert you or something.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Very nice. Sits well with the new media player 11, which didn't match the default xp theme at all...
Now i'm off to find some matching dark wallpaper. - Clevinger, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Okay, digg my previous post down and try these links instead.

- chadu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8this is going on my bootcamp install. now at least Windows doesn't look like Fisher Price OS.
- state08, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6How did you get your clock like that? I love it!
- estvir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I just started using this one and think it goes incredibly well: http://blog.carbonscoring.com/images/wallpapers/vista/d773ce996d6a72c0689c0070f4543268_w04.jpg
Here is a screenshot of it with the Zune theme: http://blog.carbonscoring.com/images/screenshots/zune-style_theme-cal.jpg

Those are all from Vista builds. - shaolinpunks, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9"it looks just like the "Noir" theme which was pretty good, except for the bugs"
what bugs? - shanesemler, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9You've got to be joking.
- roessnakhan, on 08/28/2008, -1/+6I have been using XP Silver for as long as I could remember because it was the most sterile of the new themes. This is a welcomed change because it is just as simplistic.
- bowels, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5You can change just the start button color by using uxtheme and resource hacker.
http://www.cyberanswers.org/forum/customizing-2000-xp/2773-blue-xp-start-button.html - Shadow7, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6doesn't want to install on x64 windows...and i really wanted to use it too. :-(
- shawn1122, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I've been looking for a decent mod for the dull and boring windows clock, but I haven't found anything that works well. What did you use?
Ok, I didn't think two other people would ask before me...I guess I'm getting dugg down :P - Spazkake, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Or you could use Royale Vista, the best windows theme imo with the UxTheme patcher:

http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=140707 - ElectricGrandpa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yeah I was thinking the same thing about firefox... It actually looks quite cool when you use a vertical taskbar like I do...
- rodzilla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I like the blaze orange start button, just in time for huntin' season
- mugdecoffee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The support is fine except for drivers and the occasional installer that tries to enforce XP but doesn't allow XP x64. The performance difference warrants the inconvenience however.
- Intensecure, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Well, I am sure that I am in the minority, but I love the orange start button!
Although I think that Microsoft has been very lax in giving us alternative "official" themes over the last 5 years. They could have done so much to improve the looks, and Luna variations, with so little effort. - GuyHitByTruck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The default desktop image made me chuckle. Everybody worship the Zune!!!
- Rosco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4**SPYWARE ALERT*** Stay away from installing of ThemeXp's .exe
Be very careful downloading anything from ThemeXP.org, they pack their stuff full of spyware. And if you don't agree to the install of their spyware, you won't get the file you downloaded.
But, there is a way around that as well!
http://www.tweakxp.com/Article37983.aspx
Someone posted instruction on how to extract the files from ThemeXP's exe files without running the installer. - GuyHitByTruck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Worked fine for me. Don't know what to tell you.
- DonCarcharo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I just installed it on my Parallels Windows XP install. It looks so much nicer than the default XP theme. Which is great really because I use dual monitors and keep Windows up on the left monitor pretty much at all times. I'm not a Windows hater, but XP is an eyesore.
- macbookpromat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Agreed fellow boot camper!
- hoppdawg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Microsoft has horrible marketing strategies.
- TheDrunkMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"Thanks - Annoying that you can't preview before download (or, if you can, it's still annoyingly inaccesable). But the theme looks good. Why is it that 3rd party people can't make these? Windows copyright or something silly like that?"
It is easy enough to make them- you just have to download a patch to be able to use them. There are hundreds of themes out there. Just look at deviantart:
