- sahaskatta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i love it when big companies buy smaller companies then make the product they used to provide FREE ( This and what google did to keyhole )
http://blogger.sahaskatta.com - SilverRocket, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Business model? Same as all the big sites. Konfabulator Widgets = more traffic to Yahoo = higher advertising prices.
- bugzer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agree Sahakatta - this it totally cool!
- t0mmy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If they don't make a Linux version of Konfabulator or at least some widgets for gDesklets/SuperKaramba, I think I'm going to be very angry. Neat though.
- Courthold, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0In some ways, I prefer this to Dashboard on OS X, simply because you can more easily use widgets on the desktop, and the initial load time is so much less with konfabulator. Great news!
- jeffl8n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"They're fun, stylish, useful and 100% free!"
- eemerh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Is it free, or do you still have to pay after your trial is up?
- kenclunk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It really depends on what you consider a "hog". like others posted above some widgets take 10mb just for a news ticker, granted they look freaking awesome, but then again it's just news. I use about 6 widgets all the time on a system that has 512mb and it works fine. If I need the extra memory I will simply close the widgets with a click. The one that takes the most memory that I have is the Picture frame. On a side not I'm sure K Rose likes this. He used to preach about it all the time.
- Silent-Bob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Any idea on what the business model is going to be here? As with all things free, I am suspicious of what they are planning here....
- suMMx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i liked using it before but once it asked to purchase it i stopped using it.
- shounenalice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Plus with Konfabulator, Yahoo! can offer access to its APIs through widgets and SDKs for widgets such that they don't have to scrape sites.
aaronlidman, Yahoo! hasn't changed anything about Konfabulator, just bought the company and release it for free. Why would oyu have to stop using it? - clambert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Is this thing still a resource hog? I know @ one time it was.
- TokenUser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yay - its now free ... not worth the money to buy, but great value at this price.
- poppopfizzfizz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Konfabulator works great on my PC but it's a processor hog on my Dual 2ghz Mac. 8 Widgets used up 75% of my resources on my Mac.
- DannoHung, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wonder if they're going to try and make it less memory intensive now that they've got funding or whatever.
I like Widgets and all, but 10 megs for a news ticker is insane. - Jammerdelray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0omfg they made it free!!!!!!!! finally....no way I was going to forkout buks for that
- jiggygeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great site, nice find.
- LazyBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great post I dont know how i would miss that yahoo bought them.
- Jammerdelray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yahoo! Can't wait until they come out with some custom yahoo widgets...and even better make it free
- Logik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Silent-Bob: the idea is that Yahoo will start providing widgets with Konfabulator that use the Yahoo API's. The Stock Ticker will start using Yahoo, maybe a finance widget, maybe a yahoo mail widget, etc etc. it's a push to get you to use more yahoo services.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice digg
- conman23456, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Konfabulator? That is still around? I thought they must have went down the drain when Tiger came out!
Yahoo! is just being stupid doing this only for Konfabulator - diciodoins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0nice find man
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0thanks for the nice find
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Who loves ya baby?, google?.
- mattza, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice digg. Definitely uses up some memory, but it looks damn cool. I'm ready or my Digg widget.
- shawnblog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm always looking for one more program to run in the background and take up even more RAM.
- Falcorian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hmm, talk about stuff you didn't know you neeeded but now have to have! :)
- george@CASE, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0nice! Good thing I haven't bought it yet :) I hope they don't pepper it with ads.
- Duston, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice find.
- geoboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's weird that the Yahoo! site doesn't have the free version on it... Maybe they fixed it by now? Anyway, you can get the latest free version from the konfabulator website http://www.konfabulator.com
- cmchavez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yup, cerealrat, a refund will be coming your way and mine! I am in the same situation.
- Wiser87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0To quote fro www.konfabulator.com ...
Let's just get this out of the way... Konfabulator is now free. Yup. If you download version 2.1 you know what you'll never ever see? That's right a registration reminder. Fear not, there's nothing sneaky in there, no spyware, no ads, nothing that's keeping track of information and sending it to us... it's pure, uncut Konfabulator goodness.
Now, we can currently hear the cries of all those people who've recently purchased Konfabulator. Fear not, people, for you will be given the gift of a refund if you purchased Konfabulator 2.0 or later. Revel in the glory of it. - SirWells, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What stinks for me is I bought Konfabulator two weeks before they went to version 2.0 so I don't beleive I'll be receiving any refund at all... :(
- khiddy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yep. refunds. check konfabulator.com for info. Great find, I downloaded it this morning first-thing to run on Panther, never been happier.
- patrickweber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lol, or you could just download it directly from konfabulator.. they have the free one on their site..
- Dre_the_Geek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Who is going to start making widgets for the newest podcast, IP.TV, and Blog updates for TWiT, DiggNation, Systm & Fromtheshadows? I don't know much about programming but will be looking into it now so I can show my thanks to the crew!
- cerealrat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No way! I just bought it 2 weeks ago! Refunds?
- aaronlidman, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0what the *****, i used to always used Konfab, ***** yahoo.
