You are gonna hibernate to death. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+19Most. Creative. Name. EVAR.
- iSEPIC, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6what a moron
- iSEPIC, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8MAC prissies would just bitch, like they did for IE, so why support the 2% marketshare, and then why support the 2% marketshare that just bitches? Cut the anchor, let the MAC prissies run the 4 programs that make them happy. We all get along. Just don't bitch when ***** doesn't work for your MAC, and I won't bitch when OSX doesn't run on my custom made Frys turd.
- bugninja, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I started using it today. Works brilliantly! I don't feel the software is bloated at all. Had a 30 minute conversation, PC to Phone, and no problems, cristal clear. Incoming calls are nice too, haven't used it for more than practice with family yet though. I like voice mail on my desktop screen - no more dial-in to listen to messages. This is a dream come true for me - especially since Verizon never sent that "can you hear me now" guy to my street apparently. Finally cheap clear calling! Disclaimer: I've used Yahoo software forever and have always really liked it. I tend to buy right in to all their new stuff, but so far I've been extremely happy.
- Raian, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8Hey would you Yahoo! Messenger and Voice me on Yahoo! Instant Messenger!!
- MOGua, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The actual PC to Phone calling service just rolled out yesterday. (for United States)
Both their CallOut and CallIn plans are cheaper than Skype. - ThugEsquire, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6"Yahoo! Messenger with Voice" is a LOT quicker and easier to say than "Skype!"
- iSEPIC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3but can you use it to connect to your asterisk server via SIP? or is it locked down?
- budsstud26, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I've never used it, so I don't know if it crashes...(I'm a caucasian)
:-) - Flame10885, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3is anyone else getting the nasty ad bar at the bottom of the main messenger window?
- heartsinaustin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If im not mistaken.. they have built this using dialpad.com technology. And if you have been around on the net for several years you might remember dialpad as being really one of the first big VOIP companies. Long before skype came to town. Skype got their popularity from being something that built on top of p2p.
- infosage, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Uh no... eBay owns Skype. And FYI to everyone who calls India regularly, rates are now cheaper using Yahoo Messenger with Voice.
- talon-1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Make it for Pocket PC like Skype and then I'll switch,,,Skype In/Out + PocketPC = really cheap cell phone for people ( like me ) who hate cell phones.
- terminalpariah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2One thing's for certain: Skype is still winning. Why? Because every new entry into the desktop VoIP market is dubbed a Skype-killer.
Do you think in a year we'll be saying, "Could this be the Yahoo! Messenger with Voice killer?" - TKDWILSON, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You all know that Yahoo used to offer FREE PC to phone calls? Then the STOPPED OFFERING IT ALL TOGETHER. They have always had PC to PC for pretty much as far as I can remember.
I hope Google talk gets PC to Phone and Video soon. Maybe Gmail with voicemail, video mail, in-browser video chat, in brower audio chat ect.

Eric Wilson - iSEPIC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2MS got greedy, and since MSN verion 6.x removed it. You can still find 5.x versions and place sip calls through it. But expect the bugs of course. MS is partnering with several companies to SELL it just like YA-***** and others.
- hattrick35, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've had this since like October. And yes, I realize now you can make "out" calls. Nobody ever used the call feature before and I doubt they will now. There are VoIP clients where you call call landlines for free. And no one does that anyway. Old news. Not very cool. No digg.
- iSEPIC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1seems like its SIP over TCP, rather than the standard SIP over UDP. Interesting.
- jpt62089, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@MOGua: Really? I thought it did all along :-S Oh well, I don't use YIM now anyway...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Oh no! Someone is offering more than Google! Must claim that less is better!
Explain to me again how having the OPTION to use more features is bad? IF you want to do just what Google Talk allows you to do, then Yahoo is JUST as easy to use.
Do you also buy TVs where hte remote control has just a POWER button, a Channel UP and Volumme UP/DOWN button because it is "easier" and you don't have to learn how to use the other features?
Face it...Like with EVERYTHING...Google has been surpassed by its competitiors AGAIN. - AndyManCan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Irony: Irony is a form of utterance that postulates a double audience, consisting of one party that hearing shall hear and shall not understand, and another party that, when more is meant than meets the ear, is aware, both of that "more" and of the outsider's incomprehension. - from the Wikipedia
Really? Consider the fact that people who want to use voice could be using trillian for example (best IM EVER www.trillian.cc). Then they just need a mike, and they can voice to ANYONE ON ANY SERVICE!?! So, how tight is that? If you have Trillian and Skype installed you are set for life. Sorry I just had to get my trillian plug in. It is the forgotten IM. - tsupersonic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yahoo Messenger with Voice has been out for a while. I would say at least 3+ months.
- xodex, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2NICE, I think it's great yahoo finally add's this in. Especialy with the $2 Phone Number thing.
Skype might be nice and all but It's no IM Client, Lots of people have Yahoo. I don't but I might try it out. - bchang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2They have had this in canada for so long.
- iSEPIC, on 10/12/2007, -9/+10thats why you buy a PC that will support the software you want, not one that just looks pretty and is twice the price. I posted a digg for ya!
- finn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1um, OLD news, i've had the applet for months now (and i STILL only use it for IM's)
- diggnationdevon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Skype still have the best audio quality. I agree with you all, just a sucky IM-client.
- compuguy1088, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have no clue what happened to that. I used that also, it was actually free calls to long distance numbers. I remember using it, actually on a dial up connection, and it worked pretty good with it.
- EviLiu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I was calling from MSN IM to land lines in like... 2000? Totally free. Whatever happened to that?
- diehard2k5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is this a pro-Yahoo! crowd or something? My comment with useful information gets - diggs, yet some guy's comment that says, "Most.Creative.Name.EVAR" gets 14 diggs. WTH?
- tsupersonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ok, so it is a new version, but it's in Beta. Guess what? It didn't work on my computer for some reason. I tried to IM and there was some kind of script error, may have something to do with IE 7. I don't use the YM client, but I'll go back to good ol' Trillian.
- Sinscriven, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That was the fastest install/remove i've ever done.
I REALLY didn't like the locked in adspace they have on the beta. It reminds me of AIM or MSN. So I yanked it and reinstalled 7.0 again.
I've got enough rollover minutes on my cell to find things like that impractical for my needs. - jemstar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I use skype, but don't know anyone else who does. Is this thing going to catch on or what? Maybe its the crappy sound quality- it certainly doesn't cost very much.
- wonderbud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1$.02/minute is actually a fairly spendy price for voip.
for my SIP Phone (polycom ip500) and my PBX (asterisk) i pay $.011/minute almost HALF as much (www.voxee.com).
No digg. - Woknblues, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1skype has worked great for me. My rates to US and Canada are great, (as cheap as the others). The quality is excellent for Skype-skype calls, and better than a POTs call in Skype in/out from where I am to where I call (Philippines to Canada/US). If yahoo is better, I'll try it out, but in 10 months of continual use, Skype has NEVER dropped a call, and only once did I hang up and try the call again, as the quality was bad (and the problem never returned.) Yahoo will have to assure me that they are not going to infect me with a bunch of spyware and crap, too.
Also, isn't "Beta" a bit removed from "rolled out"? No digg for misleading title, this is not a full version, and not news. - kyote, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i tried it. it works good. cheap rates and yahoo has a large user base. it'll be some competition for skype. will it over take skype? i don't know. but, it's the free market and if they want to compete, then more power to them.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh boy, that's what Digg needs, yet ANOTHER story that turns into a Mac vs. PC flame-fest on the boards.
- AaronD12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Someone didn't read my comment carefully. I said they haven't updated the Mac version in 3 years. That's all.
And yes, I'm jealous that my Mac only runs "3 programs". Especially since those 3 programs don't include the thousands of viruses out there. (No known viruses for Mac OS X.) - EviLiu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Also I have Trillian Pro and I don't know about, and don't see anything about any phonecalls in the menu.
- Misos, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2No OS X or *nix support? I think I'll stick to Skype.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1or use iChat because it's free.
(oh no, I've mentioned an exclusive Mac product, here come the PC flamers...I'm so scared!) - ramsinks.com, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1wow... only a year behind.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1OOOOH, your point is soooo much more relevant with all of your colorful words. Wow, cussing sure makes a point, don't it?
I love cyber-sarcasm - jpt62089, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1At least that long... no digg and reported as old news... (unless this is a completely new version??)
- punkdigerati, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Maybe it's just me.. but I'm pretty sure I have also had Yahoo Messenger with Voice 7.5 for quite a few months now, and I am in the US (unfortunately)
- thelastknowngod, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1i thought ebay bought skype...
- sephiroth4, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1foolish
Give me cheap, fast (faster than sprint's "power network") evdo enabled phones and internet access...or just cheaper prices with faster internet period. Catch up AMERICA! - Ilyanep, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Actually...my copy of Trillian doesn't work with Y!'s voice feature because Y! has to be anal and only allow official clients to talk to each other. Not that I care.
- dineth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1seriously, there's only one question. which gives a better fone call at a better rate? skype or yahoo! i used yahoo! before to call germany for abt an hour. Sounded fair. Skype is pretty good, tried calling to australia and stuff. Anyway can provide a clear argument why one is better than just say one is better... wad BS...
