- Tialys, on 10/12/2007, -2/+33Now if it would just talk to Google Talk and AIM we might break some social barriers. Just keep away the MySpace messenger, I dont want to hear from them...
- noneloud, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16Just so everyone know, I linked to the forum because it was the only place I could find this.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14when's Googletalk gonna do the whole thing with AOL they were talking about?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Funny that you link to Trillian's forums when Trillian already allows you to do this by just getting your own Yahoo account and using Trillian to log into Yahoo and MSN. Then there's no inconvenience for your friends and they don't even have to worry about what IM you are using.
As far as AOL coming in, I think they need to clean up the IM spam first. - sidebuster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9This feature integration with msn and yahoo is different from trillian.
On trillian joey@msn.com can only talk to @msn.com people and needs seperate accounts (yahoo, aim ect) if the person wants to talk to someone with those account types.
With this feature, now joey@msn.com can talk to his girlfriend tiny_in_jail_69@yahoo.com without a yahoo account. - hlheavyd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"dude... Did you link that image somewhere? Suddenly we have 728 users looking at this thread.

lol digg effect! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -14/+21just use GAIM. http://gaim.sourceforge.net/
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11I wonder why is a suggestion to use GAIM being modded down? This interoperability between yahoo and MSN is still text only. And if you just want text only chat, there's nothing better than gaim. A light client with tabbed chat windows does exactly what is required of it. Yahoo and MSN, both are bloated like anything, with features that are absolutely useless. But nothing can beat gTalk UI for it's ease of use (yea I know it's still barebones as compared to others, but features are catching up).
We're still far from a standard platform which would let us have conference calls (voice and video) accross all networks (Yahoo, MSN, Google, Skype etc...). May these greedy corporates stop locking their users into their own networks and set up this platform soon. Amen! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Yahoo Messenger and MSN Messenger are bloated with memory hungry features that aren't essentially needed for "instant messaging". Thats why Google Messenger has the edge.
- Scruffydan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8why does everyone hype this offline message thing. back in 1996 or whenever it was that i started using ICQ, they had offline messaging.
- M2Ys4U, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10Nobody I know uses any other IM than MSN/WLM.
I've heard of one of my friends using AIM, but apart from that, nothing. - charmedguy18, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7
I like MSN because I think it does best with webcam. - aliguana, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4i noticed that in your Contact Details in the new YIM beta, there are fields for:
AIM, GoogleTalk, ICQ, IRC, QQ and Skype.
Now, you can't actually launch any of those from YIM, so I'm wondering if Yahoo have plans to turn Messenger into a Trillian type of thing. Or are these just new fields in Yahoo Addressbook generally? - shaolinpunks, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8gaim works fine for me
- Scruffydan, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10I miss the good old days of ICQ... before it was bloated beyond compare.
now all my friends are using MSN... grrrr - kkeith02, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Right it's BETA, however, Yahoo wants everyone to download that said Beta. They have a big button that says continue. Below that is a small link to version 7.0, this version also crashes. Yahoo should have also done some internal testing first before they release it to potentialy millions of internet users who download it, install it, sees it crashes then doesn't know how to reinstall the old version before 7.0 (which by the way isn't linked on Yahoo to download anymore, the older version that is). It's a flawed program that is shameful to a company the size of Yahoo. At least windows live didn't crash. I like YIM, but they lack support.
As far as chat, that's not what I'm referring to, I'm referring to the yahoo chat where they have premade rooms and what not. Not the chat where you have to invite people you know. - reject, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Nah, just text right now.

funniest comment on the trillian forum regarding the huge amount of people looking at that particular thread...
Dugg!! - diargasm, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Gtalk is the best. I've converted enough of my close friends to use it consistently.
- reject, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This works with Yahoo! Messenger with Voice (version 8) for Windows as well. When adding a contact for MSN, enter their e-mail address and select "Microsoft LCS" from the "Network" combo.
http://beta.messenger.yahoo.com/download.php - Noah0504, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Well, AOL and Google have agreed to have their clients talk to each other, however, just like you, I'm waiting for this to happen. I'm guessing it will be soon since Yahoo! Messenger and Windows Live Messenger are now communicating with each other. AIM and Google Talk is better for me. I love using Google Talk and 95% of my friends use AIM.
- mpeters13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This new yahoo is amazing. It is very smooth looking. I'll start using this on my mac.
- didaio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I very like GTalk too! I use it in Gmail!
This IM haven't some need features (video, offline message, etc), but it's very good. Simple, lightweight, pretty! - andreground, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The great news is that, finally, Yahoo seems to have managed creating a newver version of Messenger for mac! It was impressive how buggy and old the latest "stable" was!
- goffy59, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4GAIM is the best client out there. It supports ALOT more clients then any other out there. On the 1.5 version is supported xfire and battle.net. Now the 2.0 it doesnt. Soon someone will make something to support it. Anyway GAIM is the most advanced in my opinion. Only one that does compete with gaim is Trillian. Trillian is prlly my second choice because of the plugin support on trillian.
- johnpthomas278, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I love Yahoo Messenger.
- charmedguy18, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3To chat you open the window of the first contact and there's a button that lets you invite others.
- KissCool, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5MSN, Yahoo, AIM == quantity
Jabber/Gtalk == quality
That's what I discovered by comparing my Gtalk and MSN contacts. The first one's are valuable, the second one's can be dumped.
Nobody else than teenagers need all the MSN fuzzy options. - deboosher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i saw that and was laughing...
they had no problem handling it though - noneloud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Same *****, different name.
- grayapple, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Are you talking about yahoo for mac or yahoo for windows?
Plus... it's ***** BETA! - ziadoz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I didn't think this feature was possible with WLM yet? Is there a new build released or is this feature in build 792?
- tempusrob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@ericnmu:
There's always Miranda ... google it. - pwnrOiNK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2does this makes it possible to videochat from a mac to msn on windows ?
- mpeters13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2hmm. this didn't work for me. i'm sending messages to my windows live messenger account and not seeing anything on the other side...
- JurneyAhed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3So basically, WLM has finally caught up to what IM has been capable of doing?
- noneloud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For the record, he is still a forum Administrator.
- noneloud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You can get one this way:
https://accountservices.passport.net/reg.srf?ns=msn.com - noneloud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Personally, I think this version of yahoo is much nicer than iChat. I've never liked iChat's interface as it always seemed really clunky.
I'm so glad Yahoo! switched to cocoa. - ericnmu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Sadly, all my friends use AIM. GAIM is a resource hog (on my poor laptop) and trillian is rather buggy for me and just doesnt do little things like I want it to.
- diggiti, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I thought the whole purpose of having BOTH Yahoo & MSN IMs in the first place was to seperate people . Your Wife on MSN . .GirlFriend on YAHOO. Drug Dealer on AIM. and on Gmail . Your Software Dealer . Guess I was wrong ?
- Niz1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Between my friends, if not the whole college/school i attend use MSN. Whichever happens to catch on, every new person within the group of friends will have to get that service, little to do with features etc as they are all quite similar. My mum uses yahoo messenger as that is what her colleagues and friends use. Having the two join is good, but only benefit those who are having to use both.
- DigeratiPrime, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5I just use Portable GAIM. http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/chat/portable_gaim
:) - notkevin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Google Talk is just Jabbers and there are lots of free Jabber servers that have AIM/ICQ transports, so you could use one of the free Jabber servers with the AIM/ICQ transport (or run your own Jabber server) and talk to all your AIM/ICQ and Google Talk friends from one server.
- grayapple, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I can't get this to work for some reason :(
- molfindo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The Y!M beta for mac still doesn't have voice!?! I'm staying with skype (beta) till then.
- ricodued, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ericnmu? :O
I'd bet ten diggs you live down the street from my friend.
/marquette ftw.
//not really.
///that's wild, meeting someone I've heard of... on digg. - SmeRndmGy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"As far as AOL coming in, I think they need to clean up the IM spam first."
Interesting that you would say this. I have use AIM and MSN for years and never gotten any IM spam until recently. And that was on MSN, not AIM. I have never gotten any IM spam on AIM, but I get it on MSN almost daily now. Bots selling webcam whores. I hope it doesn't get bad enough that GAIM needs to build in a spam filter. - Gavin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wish they had Yahoo! Messenger for Ubuntu. Right now I am stuck with Gaim, witch is great in all but I like hearing the radio.
- dSlifer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I guess it would be a monopoly if there was just one simple one to use... It's not that I mind using the actual clients, such as AIM, or Y!, some of them even have really cool features, but I've got friends on all the different chat systems, which means I use GAIM because of the lightweight ability, but that means I lose all the features... Can barely do more than just IMing people (which is I suppose ironic because its like the cell phone argument, we want our cells to do more than just make calls even though thats really supposed to be the only point of them)
Trillian was cool, but only before I knew GAIM ported to Windows. Trillian was really heavy, and took too much sometimes just to get a conversation going. I'll check out this new Trillian Astra though, see what's it all about -
