- eliburford, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I didn't even get the chance to upgrade to 2.0.6 yet. I will be upgrading to the latest soon though.
- jezmck, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7It would be great if there were a better way to keep it updated...
- chuyskywlk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"svn up ./ "
If you are on a decent host with shell access, subversion is a great solution for staying up to date - http://wordpress.org/download/svn/ - kennymiller, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Well you guys better wait then, because according to the post:
"And just as a reminder, the next major version of WordPress (2.1) is due out by the end of the month, but the 2.0 branch of WordPress will continue to be maintained for several years." - webguru, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4A good php programmer knows that using register_globals in php is a big security hole. This bug in php proofs that again.
Result of this bug: People who write software like Wordpress need to update their software to "close" the hole.
Who's wrong here?
Well, the php programmer AND the people who write Wordpress. It's simply stupid to use register globals nowadays. People think that
supporting backwards compatibility for webservers is a good thing, but I think security is more important than features. If you think otherwise, you aren't a good programmer. - Thorandor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yes is it, as it is mostly updating files in the admin folder, not in the theme files themselves.
As to updating, its a lot easier to update Wordpress (in this version at least), jazzle, than updating say CREloaded or OSCommerce when you already heavily modified the site for a client. :/ - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@tim7423
I just upgraded in under 45 seconds.
It's not a big deal. - AndyBeard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The unofficial patch version is located at
http://markjaquith.wordpress.com/2007/01/15/wordpress-207-upgrade-changed-files-zip-changes-diff-changed-files-list/ - tim7423, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3yep its a pain in the ass for me everytime they update. I'm a few versions behind at this point myself
- ePlus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2There used to be an archive of the files which were updated on one of the developers blog. And all you had to do just upload those files and then re-insert the extra bits and pieces of custom code you added to the new files.
But I don't think that's available any more, or maybe there is, but I just can't find the site. - parsap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Is it easy to upgrade if you have a custom theme for your site?
- jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I am still at 2.04 on my blog... I am waiting for a plugin to update before I upgrade. I know there are security risks but lets face it, there are risks even with software in its latest build. If someone wants in they will get in.
- Ankh, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5digg me down. sorry
- rprouse, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I updated 6 sites from 2.0.6 to 2.0.7 in about 10 minutes this morning. If that is too taxing, then there are always hosted solutions for you ;)
As for other updates, going to 2.0.6 took about 15 minutes for the 6 sites because I had to log into each one and do the database upgrade. Still brutally easy compared to other web software that I use, so quit your whining... - isewise, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2you're about to get so down dugg its not even funny...
- sciencebase, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Is it worth upgrading from 2.0.6 to 2.0.7?
- matthall28, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Where the hell did these Encyclopedia Dramatica spammers come from? time to block them both...
- mike503, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2agreed.
"delete wp-admin and wp-includes"
etc.etc. no thanks.
they could learn something from vbulletin. it does the database schema updates, file copying, etc, etc. without an issue, and you can uncompress it on top of the existing (live) install. from what i can tell (if you follow instructions) you'd be breaking your wordpress installation first, then uncompressing the latest.tar.gz on top of it, re-fixing the missing scripts from wp-includes and such again.
these little things keep making me want to fix things... - AndyBeard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I would recommend upgrading, it doesn't take long and a few notable sites were taken down yesterday by a hacker. 2.1 just went beta 3, and last I heard was scheduled for release Jan 22nd
- tf5bassist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1and this has ***** WHAT to do with Wordpress?
reject. - mike503, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i've put up a patch to change mysql to mysqli calls. pretty simple but i've done the small amount of legwork for you lazy folks:
http://michaelshadle.com/2007/01/15/mysqli-support-for-wordpress-207/
works like a charm. - bitcloud, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Rubbx... there are a lot of poor programmers
Steve Jobs is a rich programmer...
The difference? Jobs makes his stuff dead simple to use... not necessarily powerful, but good coding is automating those four lines of code change. - AndyBeard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Digg isn't the best place for that kind of conversation. The best thing to do is install a test blog and go looking around wp-plugins.net - I especially like plugins like UTW - there are some very creative things you can do with it.
- AndyBeard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't use custom templates as such, I just modify either free or paid templates for all my blogs
- wphj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Can you install plugins with the online version?
- alrahman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Better safe then sorry. Its not really to hard to upgrade.
- timelf123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm the one who emailed them right after the zend_hash_del_key_or_index bug was found to let them know it had been made into an exploit, but I got no word back from them by email even acknowledging me, and now its a bugfix!
Gr @ WP
Here's the exploit:

- tcurdt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why can't they finally come up with an easier upgrade mechanism. Seems like I should try the suggested svn checkout ...this is absolutely annoying
- SIRBERUS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Bit off topic, but who did your custom template? The guy who was going to turn my PSD layout into a wordpress theme flaked. =[
- Ankh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1***** Grumpus!
- Toniee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yes it is, just dont change anything in your wp-content folder.
- ironicsans, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I have a question for you WordPress fans. I've been blogging with Movable Type for a while now. I worked hard to get my site looking and working the way I want it to with MT and everything works smoothly. But I've noticed WordPress more and more over the past year or so. Is there a compelling reason for me to switch from MT to WP? What are the advantages? I think MT does everything I need, but maybe there are features of WP that I would appreciate but don't know about. Are there MT features I would miss if I switched?
- tf5bassist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Y'know... I think I'm just going to wait until version 2.1, and from there, decide whether to continue along the 2.0 branch, or migrate further.
- RobinKdiG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Upgrading is really easy, just synchronize the 2 folders (if filename = the same, replace older version with newer)
This can be done with loads of FTP programs.
Also delete files (if required, this will probably be documented on the WP site somewhere).
