- bradkovach, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Ironic... considering this site runs on BlogSmith.
- noreturn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Installing the Akismet plugin needs to be on there too...
- ArthurSucks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Microsoft avoids all open source applications like it's the plague. Wordpress is safe.
- superpixel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2bradkovach, no irony. editorial independence.
- AndyBeard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I didn't think Blogsmith was ever going to be "available" - everything I have read states that it will be only as a hosted platform, thus you are fairly stuck with whatever they give you
- fatdog789, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The rich editor is Tiny MCE, and there's a file in the includes/js directory that you can edit that will let you restore the full toolbar. Or you can download some of the rich editor plugins which will let you do these hacks from the admin panel without mucking around in the file system.
- AndyBeard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It covers most of the basics
Things for a basics list would also include
.htaccess or adding plugins to handle things like www or not, and trailing slashes
ping list - delete it while you are playing around, and then update appropriately
Google Webmaster Central validation codes
Technorati and other blog search engine registration
Create your first backup - AndyBeard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Akismet is just one of the existing plugins in the default distribution. It doesn't need to be uploaded, or really "thought" about, it is just there... Lots opt to use SK2 instead
- dcharti, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Might seem obvious to the WP elite, but it's a handy todo list to keep everything in order so you don't run into those "oh crap, forgot to do that" moments.
- hellboy1975, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've been using the default visual editor on my Wordpress for almost 2 years now, and it's not that bad at all. Unless you're a power user I don't see the need to turn it off.
- swirlee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Since Blogsmith isn't available to the general public (yet), it would be kind of silly to write an article of Blogsmith tips. :)
- killerofkiller, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5If we really wanted to see ur blog spam, we would go to your profile and go to your website.
- bluesoul, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ironically I was just waiting on my one-click install of WordPress to finish up and this showed up on Digg. Browsing through it it looks like a nice little checklist and useful for people like me that haven't used the WP dashboard before. Digg it.
- whiskeyclone, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1sorry, wrong article. bury
- Schmerz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I know this is risky but it might be because WordPress sucks. It's poorly coded and poorly thought out...
- killerofkiller, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1well, you could of at least added something productive to the conversation..
- SoundJudgment, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2How long till MS buys out WordPress.com and adds it to their Live series?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -18/+2Yeah, it is a very nice checklist that details simple to advanced tasks that WordPress users can use to help optimize their site. I've already implemented many of their tasks on my own site, but there are a few that I've missed. :-)
Thanks, Wes
