Don't clog up the tubes, now... I'm waiting for a very important internet and I need to get it before Tuesday. - afx1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+51Pshh...I'm still tweaking smartdisk on DOS 6.2
- chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -5/+42In other news.... hell has frozen over and duke nukem forever has gone gold.

- yournamehere, on 10/12/2007, -5/+38YAY!!! you offered nothing to this thread
- alwaysmc2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+31Now, now, everyone…
The PDC 2003 Vista would have been amazing, but I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemies; it was buggy, and unpredictable, and *augh*.
Since then Vista has been re-done. all of the old vista code was thrown out, and Microsoft started again from Windows Server 2003, and I must say, Vista is really quite good. And hey, at least Microsoft has something to strive for in the next release of Windows.
Edit:
JohnCrichton, XP SP3 will come in 2008. (no joke) - zoid, on 10/12/2007, -8/+30Damn.. and I just installed XP!
- shinynew, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24no you "offered" a suggestion to make fun of your fanboism anyone on digg knows that GASP windows isnt the only OS and GASP you have to buy a MAC to run OSX legally.
also you are a dumbass
the next is 10.5....... - sonofson, on 10/12/2007, -4/+25OMGZ naked vista party!!
- alwaysmc2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22heck, some people still use Windows 95!
- bsokol, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22Very dangerous. You go first.
- sockpuppets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17Digg gets everything slow, that's why you should never say it's breaking news.
- realnebby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18The RTM version still isn't available for MSDN subscribers.
- sockpuppets, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Nerds Gone Wild?
On the contrary, my rims are quite stationary. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14It'll be torrented in less than 5 minutes if they go that route
- dengzhi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Read The Manual version?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17whats hilarious is the fact that this time around there is no "devils" copy as there was of XP last time around. I don't know if anyone has a pic but there was a dude holding a burned copy of XP final infront of microsoft headquarters and a billboard that read a week in the coming release of XP.
- DigitalDud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Compared to XP's launch, Vista is in much better shape.
- Chompy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Bummer. The longer it took for that thing to come out, the longer we all had before XP got sunsetted.
- ipodman715, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9It's mislabelled. It's really 5728, not RTM.
- DigitalDud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Yeah early Vista/Longhorn builds had lots of stupid animations like Compiz. But guess what? Most all were removed...cause the usability results sucked. It's distracting to the point of causing headaches.
- pisspot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+95828 had the bug. It was fixed in 5840, which was an escrow RTM. The final build is 6000.16386.061101-2205. 5840's pretty good until RTM's available.
- DubbedOver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9That may be the case, but now it's Microsofts opportunity to join 2007.
- EggNerd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10That's an interesting observation. I too have been Beta'n, for the past year. Personally, except for "Eye Candy" features, there is only 1 significant new feature that I wish was in XP.
What is an interesting coincidence for me is that on the same day they went RTM, I reformatted my Vista Box and now it's an Ubuntu system.
Different strokes... - DubbedOver, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I am activley involved in testing and have run some of the beta beta's and all of the RC's and I now have trouble going back to XP. A lot of great features have been implimented and I think Microsoft has made great strides.
Remember how long it took people to get used to XP? ex. XP IS BLOATED STICK WITH WIN2k
It was lean and mean but didn't have the functionality an OS these days requires for the average user. - whiteguysamurai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9It's solid, it runs all my games.
Might not be appropriate for hosting a server, but for a home os, it kicks ass! - DigitalDud, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Right, consider the MILLIONS of people who beta tested Vista compared to the limited few who got their hands on XP before its launch.
- pisspot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Torrent is for 5840, which is pretty good until the final's available, build 6000.16386.061101-2205.
- mbiesz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Oh yeah, of course. We all know that the GUI is everything. Right...?
- Anand999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7If the box is unopened, you should be able to return it for a refund where your purchased it, no?
- boyter, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8People are complaining about the WinFS feature missing. Actually im not sure if its needed anymore. Anyone who has tried the search feature inside Vista will know its bloody fast. What more do you want?
Im still interested in Vista because I like new and shiny things. Will I upgrade when it comes out? No... I will do the same thing I did with XP. Let the masses bugfix it for me and I can use a stable OS that works with everything and looks shiny at the same time. Not to mention I can get cheap hardware that runs it well. - whiteguysamurai, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9As expected, you are wrong on all accounts.
Applications still work great in vista.
Viruses and spy ware are not a problem, and the registry system is a small price to pay for compatibility that any unix system would never have.
Dlls have never been a problem, but you are just one ignorant troll.
And activation is yet to be seen.
So, please stop writing about things you know nothing about and go back to wasting time compiling your gentoo box in your mother's basement. - DigitalDud, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Very cool! The biggest, longest, most expensive software development project in history comes to a close. We may never see anything like it again given that MS wants to go the "small, quick releases" route in the future.
- cody50, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10That SuperFetch thing sounds pretty cool.
- leszek, on 10/12/2007, -13/+19you mean downgrade ?
- TrueVox, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9RTM: Release to Manufacturer
EDIT: Upon reflection, that was likely a joke. Do'h!
But either way, this will be here for other users. - ipfilt3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6i heard that it was 6000
- Kwipper, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10Dude. Do not knock it until you have tried it, and if you haven't tried it, SHUT THE HELL UP AND GO AWAY!
- Pic0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Can I return my unopened WinXP Pro box for Vista pro?
- JimXugle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I've got some Genuine 3.1 Install disks in my basement...
I just wish I had a 5.25" floppy drive that would work with a "modern" computer.
Anyone have any hints or links about how to get 3.1 running on my Athlon 64 3000+ Venice? - cenarta, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8The GUI isn't everything but it is becoming more and more important as time goes on. People are starting to expect their computer's to look cool while still being practical and reliable. Although, this mostly pertains to home home users as corporate users seem to focus solely on practicality and reliability.
Apple made an entire business out of "looking pretty" and it seems that more and more people are being drawn to that concept. I personally think that the licensing issues are going to be the real downfall of Vista and will force IT managers to look into alternatives such as Linux for their desktop deployments. - dorkusmalorkus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I'll wait for RTFM version. Then we'll know their serious.
- ialan2, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7http://static.flickr.com/33/43669488_7001732faf.jpg?v=0
so no more of this? - epheterson, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8you mean sarcasm?
- Blabster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The reason behind having no boot screen is here : http://digg.com/tech_news/Microsoft_says_Stop_your_blatant_unnecessary_advertisement
read and stop whining plz lol - cenarta, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Let me just add that Vista did look much better than XP on the beta and RC builds that I played with. Overall though, I was just underimpressed when I compared it to OSX and Linux.
- DigitalDud, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Yeah WinFS was overrated. Everyone thought it was cool whatever it was, no one had a clue how it would work, including MS.
