- cyanid3, on 10/12/2007, -5/+33Heh, that block button is lookin GOOOOOOOOD... :)
- estvir, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2432Bit is 2.5GB and 64Bit is 3.6GB. These are rough sizes.
So yes, 64Bit is now on there and remember, you can use your Beta2, RC1 or any other keys you might have.
Time to download.. - colincornaby, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21Gee. I thought beta testing was when they gave you a finished, polished version of their software for free and don't expect feedback. I guess not. Thank you for opening my eyes.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18RC1 keys WILL work for RC2 This link will get you Two (2) Keys that can be used on ten computers per key : https://login.live.com/ppsecure/secure.srf?lc=1033&id=42814&ru=https%3a%2f%2fprofile.microsoft.com%3a443%2fRegSysProfileCenter%2fwizard.aspx%3fwizid%3d1bfbc555-c472-428b-b028-4a9efc43a315%26lcid%3d1033%26FU%3dhttps%253a%252f%252fwww.microsoft.com%252fbetaexperience%252fscripts%252fvista.aspx%253flcid%253d1033%2526Action%253ddownload%2526Region%253dNA%2526CountryCode%253dUSA&tw=1800&fs=1&kv=4&ct=1158019015&cb=LCID%3d1033%26WizID%3d1bfbc555-c472-428b-b028-4a9efc43a315%26ReturnURL%3dhttps%253a%252f%252fprofile.microsoft.com%253a443%252fRegSysProfileCenter%252fwizard.aspx%253fwizid%253d1bfbc555-c472-428b-b028-4a9efc43a315%2526lcid%253d1033%2526FU%253dhttps%25253a%25252f%25252fwww.microsoft.com%25252fbetaexperience%25252fscripts%25252fvista.aspx%25253flcid%25253d1033%252526Action%25253ddownload%252526Region%25253dNA%252526CountryCode%25253dUSA&ems=1&seclog=10&ver=2.1.6000.1&rn=sWcbsdXW&tpf=81b65dc76ec3115568c8043f8ccd3ffb
- Frankie4Fingers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15I do it for curiosity. It is fun to play with new OS every time someone puts one out.
- GinsuGuy585, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Can you upgrade from RC1 to RC2?
- GuyHersh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Yes, many bug fixes, speed improvments, better use of resources, and fewer crashes (for me anyway)
MCE still crashes alot though on my Divx files, even with divx installed, still trying to figure that one out. I dont see many other people having the problem in the microsoft betanews newsgroups.
Anyway, yes I recommend you install RC2 if you have RC1, and this is the last build they'll release before RTM (the one that will be in stores). - jholdaway, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13They get better test results from clean installs. The data on the upgrade success of Vista RC1 to Vista RC2 would never be useful. However they will likely allow upgrades from XP to Vista near the final release.
Also it may be of note that the download has no key. Without a key you get 30 days (i think) and with you can load up to 10 copies that will last until june. - jphillips59, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Some Screens.
http://windowsconnected.com/photos/windows-vista-rc2-screenshots/default.aspx - chellini, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I've been dual booting xp and vista since beta 2..
seems like your best bet if you plan to ditch it before the final release - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8you haven't installed it yet, have you?
I got RC1 yesterday and many UI features are different. This is certainly not XP.
on a side note, these are the worst comments i have seen on digg... truly terrible. albeit, i have not been at digg for that long, they make me sad. - Hindu_Wardrobe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9If I remember correctly, June 1st, 2007.
- estvir, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I believe you can install it WITHOUT a key but you have 15 days to provide one.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Installed faster than Build 5728 on my 32bit box. I hope Vista gets more Drivers before final RTM I need the firewire to work on my laptop under x64.
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6XP was sweet for drivers when it came out since Win2K drivers almost always worked with it.
- eddieroger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6You know you can get one from Microsoft, all legal and everything, just by asking them. Not by posting your email on Digg. Enjoy the spam.
- maninblac1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6They say might not, because they really don't know, they aren't putting garuntee's on anything. Dollars to dimes say that RC2 will be fully upgradeable to RTM.
- Dhalamar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6The thing that gets me, Virtual PC for Windows from Microsoft is free to download and use. These people asking "Give me a key! Will this key work? Will that key work?" ...
You can't just run the ISO into VPC and find out for yourself before ... #1)You should already have a key, and, if not #2) there is a 2 week trial period for it.
Me personally, I have a key. I'm going to use it on a an old Athlon 2200+ machine I have laying around to try it out. No harm in it.
If you don't have a key, don't enter one. You have 2 weeks (roughly) to get one. - jholdaway, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Any CPP Vista key will work.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6You are not forced to buy anything.....But I would not install Vista on your primary HD unless you made a backup image of it first.
- sjetha, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6My only concern is that MS have put a notice on the download site about how you might not be able to upgrade from RC2 to the final released version of Vista, and seeing as I have been using Vista a lot lately, I'm concerned about this point.
Anyone think there's still a point to me upgrading, or do you think I should wait for the final release, based on the notice on the site? - JohnKappa, on 10/25/2008, -1/+6Does this have an expiration date?
- wet_napkin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You got a key?
- merugo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8While I agree to a certain extent, I think that Vista is much more aesthetically pleasing than XP.
- merugo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Does Firefox not come up with an error message every time you shut it down?
- brewyet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3they took down the RC2 download page and they killed the servers with it. I was downloading it and mid download it happened
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4It's true. But I've always said the same of Redhat and the Fedora project. Fedora is Redhats way of screwing the end user and having them run their non-stable software in order to get their commercial product, RHEL stable/bug free.
It's not really a bad idea, I like the idea of the community helping the developers. Hell it's how open source thrives. - BaldyNapper, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6your rc1 code will work with it
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6YES
- mvprj84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yes you can upgrade but it will take around 2 hours...no joke.
- node42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Got it yesterday - running it on my Macbook Pro. Through a comedy of errors, I had to blow away all partitions and create just one. Shockingly it seems stable. Tossed Office 2007 Beta (Tech refresh 2) on there - no problems. My usual apps seem good as well (Java 6 Beta 2, WinSCP, JEdit, Eclipse, picasso, winzip). It is a hell of a lot better than the original Beta, which I found outright unusuable. The MacBook Pro weighs in with a 4.1 performance rating, BTW.
- kevnaca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Microsoft changed the download area form that msdn one to the Vista site but they haven't updated it to RC2 yet, it's still says RC1 on the Vista page.
- sjetha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You installed it on a 10GB drive? Well, that's an improvement right there. I remember Vista Beta 2 (and RC1 as well, I think) needing a minimum of 16GB to install; because of all the unoptimised decompression method I'm guessing. The 64-bit version needed a minimum of 24GB to install properly.
So, slowly slowly, it's getting better. - serra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Arr, I've downloaded this twice, and I can't get it to work. Says that something is not valid, blah blah.
- burty89, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Windows Update will give you security updates, yes, but it will not update many of the bugs or performance issues that are fixed between each build Microsoft releases, hence many (including myself) will install RC2.
- zforrester, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I feel like a chump
- cr4z3d, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Any reaon so to use RC2 instead of RC1?
- FetalSage, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I currently have Vista RC1 (build 5600) on my Black MacBook (2ghz, 1gb ram) via Bootcamp. I wonder how RC2 will run, hopefully I can upgrade since I don't feel like doing a clean install.
Thanks for informing us, I wonder when I'll get my email about it. - dAbReAkA, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4gmail has nice spam filters but i wouldnt post my email like that
- madeingermany, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1is this still working? see bottom of http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/preview.mspx
- itfitz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hi:
The link doesnt work for me. I cant download it either through the manager or through the http service. any ideas? - Wisgary, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My computer, ASRock 939 Dual SATA-II, with an Athlon 64 3400+, 2GB DDR, Radeon 9700 and an Audigy 1 simply will not work correctly with vista. I can only boot with "Run last known good configuration". Removing, changing or adding hardware has no effect on anything. It simply DOES NOT WORK. This has been the same situation from the betas, down to RC1 for me. It's sad, I've wanted to *really* try it out, but every time I run it I get stuck with the "last known good configuration", which means I have to install drivers again, and again, and again.
- Dylan16807, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Even worse is that between RC2 (5744), and RC1(5600), was the 5728 build.
- Dennis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have had no problems with this OS whatsoever since beta 2. I don't know what is wrong with everyone elses computer, but it's not a resource hog, and it runs everything I want flawlessly. Except.... nmap. :( But that's cool.
- fivetwentyfour, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I'm not a fan of Microsoft, but dam the UI is actually looking rather sexy...
- zcreem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does this RC have any problems with Apps, such as 3ds Max, Photoshop.
Are there ATI drivers, or any known driver problems.
Thanks for your help guys, last time I put RC1 I removed it as it crippled my machine. - testdrivemedia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have nothing but good experiences also. I'm currently using RC1 build 5728 and everything i need to use is working like a charm.
The only problems I've had to date have been when clicking packetnews.com links because mIRC doesn't open right to the server and all of that... And secondly, I can't install my copy of Photoshop CS2 as apparently my OS isn't supported (I'm using the x64 version) which kinda sucks.
I'm dual booting between vista and xp pro sp2, but i seem to be spending most of my time on Vista. Just wish i hadn't missed out on the RC2 downloads, as i don't want to use a torrent as i don't have the data limit available to spare.
But yeah, enough of the blah blah :P - asdfer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/preview.mspx
Just checked it and it still works - 2 keys per Live login. - valkyries, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1well to just to buy it is only 30$ and that covers up to 3 computers. But the reviews ive read have given it a thumbs up. aka leo laport. So I would give it a try.
- ChicagoFan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I was able to download it yesterday -seems sweet- how secure who knows?
Thats why I threw it on another hard drive. I was able to do a duel boot xp pro and vista.
When you instal rc2 customize the instal and choose another partition like a "d" drive.
Duel boot was no sweat for " non it guy " :)
per Leo Laport there are 700 know bugs...or something like that....
also is it worth signing up for Onecare live ? Free for 180 days ? -
