You're criticizing millions of lines of code and you can't even get one sentence right? - icexe, on 10/12/2007, -4/+109"You're criticizing millions of lines of code and you can't even get one sentence right?"

Done. - ipodman715, on 10/12/2007, -5/+24I'm just wondering when it will be released publically.

- TylerM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16I download Pre-RC1 5536, install, reboot, log on to Vista, install Firefox, log on digg, then I see this.
*sigh* - smb3d, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Every time I install a vista build a new one is released the next day. Oh well, at least now it doesn't take two hours to install like the earlier builds.
- MioTheGreat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14So. How long until we have a torrent? I've been dying to reformat my laptop.
- CharlesDarwin, on 10/12/2007, -9/+23Is there a torrent? I'm looking to scrap my gentoo install. =P
- aldenhg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Bored of XP? Why are you relying on your OS for entertainment?
- metalrock76, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Ugh, I just installed Vista Pre-RC1.
- DigitalDud, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18Uhh do you know anything about memory management or cpu scheduling? If nothing is using the CPU and a process wants it, of course its going to get 100%. And since when is high memory usage a sign of poor resource management? If your operating system isn't using all your memory its not doing its job. It's called caching, prefetching, etc.
- Dawnspire, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14It automatically DRMs out moronic comments from any website or game, 24/7
- EagleY, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I just finished downloading and installing Pre-RC1 5536 and I'm on a limited bandwidth connection.
[*hangs-self*] - revenge7, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Because it has the best support for games (including Live Anywhere.)

I bet all you suckers with the 128mb version of the 6800 are PISSED right now, huh? - whoreman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12have to be a beta tester to access that link
- MioTheGreat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11"nobody at Microsoft is capable of rewriting much of the fundamental networking and file handling code"
So then, oh mighty one. Explain to us how Microsoft rewrote Vista's network stack practically from scratch. - wistar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10For the same reason that people come here. To see what's new.
- UnknownBadger, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14i wonder if this build will differ to that the public get?
- Kazbaeden, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Better tablet integration, better voice recognition, faster install, and even just to play with all the new features will be fun!
- DigitalDud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8The fact that it resumes from sleep in 2 seconds and immediately detects when new monitors are plugged into the VGA port is enough to get me off XP. It also looks like Explorer page faults happen a lot less and doesn't freeze up on on network computer browsing, etc.
Also I'm totally hooked on the flip 3-d *****. Even if it's pretty much just eye candy I now automatically hit win+tab even on non-Vista machines. The whole pixel shader rendered glass window frames thing also gives me a nerdgasm. Now if only they'd expose a milcore.dll API... - DevilsRejection, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8link?
- darkyoshi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11I think both platforms are great, but nevetheless, this isn't the topic to discuss which is better. That would be a submission of some guys opinion of which is betterl.

I've been testing vista for a while now and this is without a doubt a big improvement over all previous builds. Performance has been increased, resource issues have been addressed and the god awful security model is much less intrusive. However OSX and Linux both do this more effectively IMO.
They really shove the windows live in your face but that can be expected I suppose. I'm still not a fan of IE7 I really wish they would scrap it and bundle opera or firefox in there or make it an optional download. I think aero is meh at best but I'm used to my gnu desktop and all the options that I like but don't work in a consumer OS that needs to have a consistent look and feel.
I'll second what has already been said. Nvidia drivers are not usable. you will get a black screen and that is it. The audigy drivers work flawlessly, FF 2.0b works well, Newer HP laser printers have a problem as does my canon inkjet. Remember this is an RC so you can expect these problems. over all I'm impressed with the progress that was made from the last beta to this RC.
I'll still recommend OSX to non techies and continue to use Linux for my self but I love what is shaping up in the consumer OS market. - Sferrero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8ahh never mind, at first glance it looked like it.
But it was a fake, build 5536
We are still without a torrent - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+15SundayTrain---they could have been running some random service that was eating up CPU time. That wouldn't show up in the task bar.
Besides, I can get a 2 Ghz system from Dell for less than 500 bucks, so that's not a big deal to me either. - Tyrax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7You can do a build to build upgrade, it surprisingly works well
- wistar, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10There is a huge RC1 party going on out on the Microsoft Campus sports field right now.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7When people point out that NVidia drivers are unusable - they are referring to the ones available on NVidia's website and not the ones that are bundled with the OS. The drivers which are bundled work well. So don't be affraid if you're running NVidia hardware.
- MioTheGreat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Avoid nvidia's drivers like the plague at the moment....I'm not sure how ATI's are.
- steger, on 10/12/2007, -11/+18yeah too bad it doesn't work in FF 1.5
- JorgeGT, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11So Paul has succumbed to the AJAX-esque lust... cool image refreshing without reloading... too bad he forgot something called thumbnails in the process!
- bmobile, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6that's Murphy for ya, huh?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Come on, I can't wait already for the final release. I am bored of XP....
- tecmec, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Works fine in 1.5.0.6 as well...
- MioTheGreat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I just did a quick search of every torrent site I could think of and couldn't find it.
- TomP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yes I vote for torrent too!

#winbeta-ads, on
irc.winbeta.org, they got a hold of it. 2 hours until i can get my hands on it.
I'll upload torrent if there's no torrent out in the next say 3 hours. - DigitalDud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Microsoft: "Thanks for pulling all nighters for the past months. You don't get overtime so here's a picnic!"
- redxii, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6... and Apple stole BSD code.
- EagleY, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5If everything is working for you then don't download and install RC1. It's not like you HAVE to!
Unless - ofcourse - you're sending bug reports or you're a software developer. - webcrumb, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7But I must have Ultimate Gold Pro Premium 3D Turbo edition!

- CamoChris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4And then get the backlash when people switch to this and screw up their computer, as they don't realize it still has bugs. The general public would see this and think "Yay I can save £200 on a new OS", but they'd be wrong. This is why only the beta testers get it, better them screw up their machines than mine or yours.
- alwaysmc2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6my Vista build 5536 experiance:
Clicked "next", vista starts installing, and I start my stopwatch.
just under 25 minutes later the install is done and it asks me for user info.
it runs a speed test.
at no later than 35 minutes I had the wireless internet set up and was downloading Live Messenger. - smiley2billion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4With Windows XP there were some fairly large changes between Beta 2, RC1 and RC2. Being that the "pre" RC1 came out just recently though, I'd doubt there will be much difference until RC2.
