- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24Thats it. This is the feature I've been waiting for. I have to upgrade.
- blanski, on 10/12/2007, -6/+27Those are ugly as all hell. Joel.
- anti-net, on 10/12/2007, -8/+29that cursor looks like the defualt one in KDE....
- Philbert, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17wow, those are really hideous
- Decon89, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14http://img347.imageshack.us/img347/4397/untitled0sb.jpg Got a screendump off the page before :P
- TheWriteGuy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13This brings literary meaning to the saying "cursory improvements". (dodges for cover)
- beelz, on 10/12/2007, -6/+19http://www.duggmirror.com/software/Windows_Vista_5456_Released_-_New_Mouse_Cursors_Too_/
- L0t3k, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15Oh damn... cursors! The technology just keeps on coming!
Alright, I'll own it... I actually AM excited about Vista (for much better reasons than new cursors). :) - BlueFiberOp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Paul Thurrott has some new screenshots as well: http://winsupersite.com/showcase/winvista_5465_gallery_01.asp
- Bloc, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13anybody got these cursor files?
- neocitron, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11thank god... Flip3d was jaggier than a porcupine
- Protoss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I think the commenter is talking about build updates, so instead of having to download another 4 gigs just to get some bug fixes, they could just update them via Windows Update. And...how are they making money with the Community Preview Program? I got my key and all for free.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Those cursors remind me of America...getting fatter
- Decon89, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8No cursor there though :(
- Haroldx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7More theme tweaking? I think the users are pleading for more stability, Microsoft.
- Atomic1fire, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7This account has been suspended.
- raccettura, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I use a mac cursor on XP.
I *can't stand* the white cursor, with webpages and text editors as 80% of my day, it gets lost to easily. The back cursor just makes more sense. - IcyStorm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Oh, I was looking forward to installing Vista again.
- evilkat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Well, this is going to be interesting. On the one hand, cursors haven't really changed since Windows 3.1 except for a few minor face lifts here and there. I haven't seen the screen shots but maybe Vista will do something new with it, because lord knows, this is one aspect of UI that have remained pretty much uncharged since the dawn of time.
On the other hand, if something as ubiquitous as the mouse cursor is changed in some fundamental way, you'll break your UI since people associate seeing the hour-glass with waiting/loading etc....should be interesting to see what Vista does. - raid517, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Well thanks a lot MS. I reported 47 different bugs I found with beta 2 - and my reward is that now I don't get to take part in this beta?
Class, real class... - phbradley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3the artwork on the cursors has been in WMP 11 for a while now - e.g. the graphic that shows whilst the library is loading
- t3hX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3>WITHOUT VALIDATION TOO!!!!!!!!!!! retarded microsoft CEO's
Hey, it's Ballmer. What do you expect? - ErrandboyOfDoom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2By "new cursors" you mean "unnoticeably changed cursors." How about something really different?
Why not a crosshair, or a bright dot?
(Or maybe I've just been playing too many FPSes.) - salmonmoose, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm going to hunt you down, take you to the fish-mart, and slap you with a trout.
- simianstyle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3we'll probably end up changing them anyway
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Man, that is one ugly-ass OS.
- hadak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2my favorite cursor set is the Human theme bundled with [k/u/ed]buntu.
- xXShadowstormXx, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5What Vista really needs (compared to cursors) are more unique themes. The XP themes (3) are lame.
- peorth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Eh, those cursors are awfull!
I'll stick with the Nuit cursors: http://maur.shellscape.org/cursors/Nuit_preview.png
(Get them here, along with others - http://maur.shellscape.org/?cursors) - Evolve, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3So... What new Cursors? One difference between the arrow pointer (face it, that's the only one your going to be seeing when you get down to it.) and the arrow pointer i have now is that the 'tail' is slightly and i mean slightly shorter.
A ring that i guess will turn round when it loads. Pfft sorry I'm not really into having that cursor up, i actually have a PC that can run applications without needing to sit there 'loading' for half a century. - Criterion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2As far as the cursor itself, meaning the one you see for 99.999% of the time is identical to the one in XP save for the tail being about 2 pixels shorter. Wow. Color me impressed... not.
- dolphumous, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'll stick with the bronze cursor.
- MrViklund, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Revolutionary...
- dunn2953, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3this is not a public beta build for some reason
- IcanFLY, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The next planned public beta is supposedly RC1 which will be many months away. (it mentioned it on the original beta 2 download and cdkey page).
- theuber1337, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is a leak; the next public beta will be in a few months.
- hadak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1better than the lengthy cursors bundled with SuSE.

Envy & jealousy rears it's ugly head. Ironically, you're probably more likely to end up with cancer. Mac users are able to login get our work done and logout quick and easy, while win users struggle day in and day out with an OS that doesn't let the user get anything done efficiently, thus the user spends more time in front of the monitor soaking up cancer causing radiation. Have fun with chemo... - System84, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3What would be nice is if Microsoft made these updates available through Windows Update. Although I suppose it would be hard to do that with somethings, but it would be nice for the things they can change that way.
- raid517, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's not a leak - it's a technical beta - which (if I understand correctly) is only given to MSDN subscribers. (Which means you have to pay). It may leak later, but I don't relish the idea of downloading Vista through peer to peer at all and then having to hide from MS, particularly when I am more interested in actually doing real beta testing.
- patrickweber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, most definately.
- Hindu_Wardrobe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3The normal pointer looks like an enlarged, slightly smoothed version of the default XP cursor. What creativity!!
- hadak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I love the chess game on Vista."
i can talk to my chess game. (AND it understands.) - ComputerGuru, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Banned? "Banned" and "hit by digg, slashdot, osnews, and more at once" are totally different.
- theuber1337, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@kram
You know what? The greatest part of your reply is that you didn't make any relevant counter points, and merely became nit picky on my writing. It's usually an accepted unwritten rule that when one does this, they already lost.
You have a girlfriend? Good. Though I was not referring to sex, I was being metaphorical. Referring to a blatant fanboyism. I was going to mention the second 'game over card', so to speak. When one mentions how much sex he gets to imply he is better, but secretly is just a loser, but I realized that wasn't implied.
I never said I wasn't being a dick, as a matter of fact, I was. I fight fire with fire (jerk with GERK (ha, funny how those silly errors slip by sometimes).
Obviously I am drastically under educated because of a few spelling mistakes... You really need to lighten up my friend...
Oh and thank you, I am well aware of a spell checking button, but did not bother, didn't want to be distracted from my 'graphing calculator'. And just stop being such a 'gerk'. - theuber1337, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Oh of course, I'm unbiased, therefore I have a millitant love for Microsoft (I think you mispelled it). How could I have been so blinded by logic!
Ok, so you were defending your platform, cool, but you certainly did a 'dickish' way.
Hmm why didn't I buy a X-Box? Well I did, but maybe it's because I'd rather have a PC, a superior gaming system in my opinion. I work with my PC probably as much as you hump your Mac (which is assumed to be quite often in this statement).
My mac is handy with video and rendering. My Debian server is handy for filehosting, webhosting, and the like. My windows computer is handy for my day to day tasks and an occasional game or two. If you think I am loyal to only microsoft, I'm sorry, but you'd be retarded.
Now maybe the concept of an unbiased opinion in operating systems is a bit hard to grasp, but we're out here, and people like you make our skin crawl, mostly due to the aire of superiority you carry about you-when in reality you're just a gerk.
Oh and I got a good laugh at the 'Mommy and Daddy' comment because of 'GAMES'. Of course; I play video games so I must be pathetic and live in my parents basement. Ha. Well I'm 17 and have a room upstairs thank you very much. You've got problems man. - theuber1337, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@kram
Of course I have anger, but the anger is at you; or more to the point people like you. You use a mac, whoopde-freakn do, you come into a Windows Vista comment section to tell people of your 'superior operating system'. I use them too, I'm on one as I speak, they're nice, they get the job done. But you know what, so does windows! It does everything I want it to just as fast and easily as my mac.
I have antivirus software, I have spyware software. Why? Because it's a windows machine, it's a primary target for virus'.
My mac, what virus writer cares about it? Why do I need to bother with extra software.
Now, the question of wasting my time... does that software waste my time? No, once a month the automated scan runs in the background, I usually don't notice its going on, then a pop up comes up with results. Ohh scary!
You have a really twisted view on the world, it's why I can't help but be pissed at anyone who shows your attitude or a similar attitude for some other product. It's why I think the new apple ads are riddiculous, and why the people at Microsoft are idiots for being anti-open source (fear the Communists).
Woo! Now back to my 'graphing calculator'! Hmm.. no it's late.. maybe I'll play some Oblivion.. wait I can't, I'm on the mac! Damn! I better go to my PC, bye now. - chiklit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They probably don't want the flood of downloads again and since they won't accept the help of BitTorrent I guess they just figure instead of having people bomb their servers every few weeks they'll just lump all of the new updates togeather in RC1.
- anorris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is not a leak, it is available to people who are actually signed up for the real beta testing process -- NOT the Community Preview Program
