So it really is a feature. Usually it just start without warnings. - inactive, on 05/05/2009, -7/+282my wifes really getting tired of me reinstalling win 7 every few weeks.
and by wife i mean left hand - PeanutCheeseBar, on 05/05/2009, -28/+296Thousands of Mac users are not going to download this, and flame it anyway.
- bobafettm, on 05/05/2009, -12/+202I love my RC1 like I love cake.
- wastern, on 05/05/2009, -17/+187I'm a Mac user. I also don't like to blindly talk ***** about products. I've talked a lot of ***** about Windows over the years, I'm not going to say I haven't. But I try to keep it to first hand experience vs something I read on a blog somewhere.
I tried Windows 7 beta, and have download the RC (haven't installed yet, but plan to). I have to say, I'm impressed so far. Not perfect, but it was a beta that I tried and I provided some constructive feedback to MS about a few of my issues. One being the "Favorites" in the sidebar with the gold star icon being kept in a folder called "Links" rather then the folder with the gold star called "Favorites" where the IE bookmarks are kept. Granted IE bookmarks have been kept there for years, but it was a poor and ambiguous design choice to also use that icon and wording in the sidebar.
What I do like are the new Taskbar, it functions very much like the OS X dock and is much better for multitasking. I'd like it at work vs what is in XP, when you start getting 15 windows open the taskbar gets messy. I also like the hot screen sides to resize windows, its a cool idea and works well. Overall, I think they did a good job refreshing the desktop, adding features that add usability, while stripping out a lot of the BS from Vista. It seems a lot lighter weight and much more clean. I will have to take a closer look at the back end. I didn't spend a lot of time trying to figure out their new file structure organization, its different, hopefully its for the better - MCA2142, on 05/05/2009, -6/+129Virtual XP Mode = Awesome.
- overnine9k, on 05/05/2009, -45/+137Thousands of Mac users are downloading this right now because they need Windows to do real work but don't have the guts to give MS their money.
- cyrix, on 05/05/2009, -1/+89I love this RC more than I love taffy, and I'm a man who loves his taffy.
- piratearggghhh, on 05/05/2009, -9/+91Sweet, over a year before it expires.
- iancunningham, on 05/05/2009, -5/+77They must have released it earlier than usual to spread the server load - us Europeans can start downloading while the USA is asleep :) Good thinking MS, the first beta release was late in the day and everyone tried at once.
This build matches the earlier leaked builds (and TechNet/MSDN ones) exactly. To confirm, the MD5 hashes, filenames etc. are on this page:
http://www.w7forums.com/windows-7-rc-now-available ...
There are direct download links on that page too if the MS server starts to crawl.
I'm very impressed with Windows 7 so far, so if you haven't tried it yet then it might be worth a go! - wontstoptalking, on 05/05/2009, -4/+76And this one ISN'T a lie.

http://wb.dlservice.microsoft.com/dl/download/rele ... - inactive, on 05/05/2009, -2/+61Well, March 2010 it starts to shutdown every two hours, so little less than a year, in reality. June is the official expiration.
- Elranzer, on 05/05/2009, -1/+56If you're using PeerGuardian in XPM, it's only protecting the XP virtual machine, not your real OS.
- JackSchittt, on 05/05/2009, -6/+60Just a warning: Most regular antivirus/internet security won't work on it properly. Most of the major vendors have put out Windows 7 Beta versions of their software, but they're somewhat buggy themselves.
But beyond that, I have to say..........Windows 7 >>>>>>> Windows Vista. And I'm one of those who thought Vista was just fine. - habbofresh, on 05/05/2009, -2/+54scan her laptop for AIDS
- michaelphw, on 05/05/2009, -3/+52I'm very glad that I don't have to stop using Windows 7 till it's officially out. I wouldn't been a bit sad going from 7 beta to Vista.
- defectDS, on 05/05/2009, -2/+48Thousands of Mac users, including me, are downloading this right now because OS X now has some honest competition. Microsoft is stepping up with 7, their advertising, and overall aggressiveness. It's really the best thing for the market because Apple was starting to just get lazy.
Oh sorry, I mean LOL WIND0WZ 7 COPYIN OH-ESS EX WITH DOCK AND GADGETZ HAR. - NerveBand, on 05/05/2009, -1/+42It's an RC, not the final version. Don't like it? Don't download it.
- wontstoptalking, on 05/05/2009, -1/+41Maybe we should stop here while we're ahead.
- sgxyay, on 05/05/2009, -1/+37Tell it to make you a sandwich.
- ZakMcRofl, on 05/05/2009, -0/+35Avast works great, if you're looking for a free solution.
- mizarone, on 05/05/2009, -5/+38You could say it was a triumph
- sykotik, on 05/05/2009, -2/+35@Mersonix - no no, you just don't seem to know what constitutes a rant, and what constitutes a critique.
- inactive, on 05/05/2009, -8/+40The Vista on my wifes laptop does this, except at completely random times.
- muty, on 05/05/2009, -4/+36no
- gotjpeg, on 05/05/2009, -2/+34Lies! Leopard was buggy as hell
- novengeance, on 05/05/2009, -0/+31I had a good laugh out of that. Haha.
- inactive, on 05/05/2009, -0/+30I guess that's why they call it beta testing
- rnawky, on 05/05/2009, -1/+30You really shouldn't be using a RC once the official release is out.
- inactive, on 05/05/2009, -20/+49As if you can't find a cracked copy :P
- Lleu, on 05/05/2009, -1/+30So users don't wake up on march 1 and go "***** I DIDN'T BACK UP MY DATA!!!!"
- jakem1, on 05/05/2009, -3/+32Tech support since '93? Isn't it about time you got a proper job?
- NerveBand, on 05/05/2009, -6/+34Your just jealous that Microsoft has so much to offer, that it is actually bringing much needed competition.
Kudos to you Microsoft.
P.S. I am using Mac OS X to write this post so yes, I do like Mac OS X. I also like Windows Vista and will thoroughly enjoy Windows 7 along side. - inactive, on 05/05/2009, -3/+30It's simple. Just use Google.
- inactive, on 05/05/2009, -1/+28Man its been 8 years.. time for a change, me thinks.

- LoneWolf01, on 05/05/2009, -1/+28And while I'm ranting about price, laptops:
$1,099, Dell Studio XPS 13: http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetail ...
$1,599, 2.4 GHz MacBook: http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_mac/fam ...
Reasonably similar specs, although the Dell has more RAM and faster, larger storage. - inactive, on 05/05/2009, -6/+32Oh whoops, sorry for speaking taboo.
I forgot how morally upstanding we all were when it came to Microsoft Operating Systems. - 2Deluxe, on 05/05/2009, -0/+25die in a fire
- junglejay, on 05/05/2009, -1/+25Just downloaded, burning to disc now. Fastest.download.ever! Even faster than any torrent download i've done!
I'm an Ubuntu user, but thought I'd see for myself what all the fuss is about with Win 7. - Snoosy, on 05/05/2009, -4/+28If you've ever actually used it, you'll realize it's a great OS that has less problems than XP.
- Spo8, on 05/05/2009, -1/+25I don't believe you have a left hand.
Enjoy your wife. - TriggerHappyGTR, on 05/05/2009, -3/+26Idiot, he's making a joke about Windows and its crashes.
- mattsull, on 05/05/2009, -2/+25That's the whole point of an RC *****
- ilgaz, on 05/05/2009, -2/+25I liked Windows 7 (older release) on MS Virtual PC 7 (on G5, PPC) and when I installed Vista to a (real) supported machine, not so high end, I was amazed by people blindly downgrading others machines to XP as Vista worked all fine, way better when I installed SP1 to that poor XP victim.
On Apple side, I installed Leopard, the 10.5 to a 1Gig RAM having Mac Mini G4 as well as all the macs I own.
Guess the result of sharing experiences for both latest operating systems and blasphemy of telling they work better than previous on old but supported hardware? You get down modded, digged down, called troll and also a astro turfer. -
