God I hate you IE. - hahahafr, on 09/27/2008, -3/+73Last stable IE 5.5 : 14%.
Last stable IE 7.0 : 12%.
Fail. - v4vishal, on 09/26/2008, -3/+68Actual shipping builds of the world's various web browsers haven't yet reached 100%. According to figures in Wikipedia, the latest Safari 3.1.2 has a score of 75, while Firefox 3.0.2 has reached 71, Opera 9.52 has reached 84, and Internet Explorer 7 is at 14.
In internal builds, the Safari 4.0 Developer Preview has reached 100, while the latest build of Firefox Gecko engine has reached 87, the latest build of Opera earns 99, Google's new Chrome beta has reached 79, and the Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 scores 21.
Among mobile browsers, the shipping version of Safari in iPhone 2.1 reaches 74, while the Netfront browser hits 11, Opera Mobile reaches 2, Opera Mini has hit 79. Pocket Internet Explorer can't run the test due to a lack of JavaScript support. - inactive, on 09/27/2008, -7/+56٩(͡๏̯͡๏)۶ ٩(-̮̮̃•̃)۶ ٩(-̮̮̃-̃)۶ ٩(•̮̮̃•̃)۶ ٩(●̮̮̃•̃)۶.

- houndeyex, on 09/27/2008, -2/+32If you go to Facebook in IE 6 or lower, it says "For the love of God, why are you using IE?"

- falafelkiosken, on 09/27/2008, -1/+24that's because IE (which still is the most used browser) is slowing down the pace of the whole internet, if all web browsers did support the stuff ACID3 uses, we'd see a lot of new technologies come to mainstream use
- RomeyRome, on 09/27/2008, -3/+22There are more people developing Opera than using it.

- Altotus, on 09/27/2008, -1/+16Acid 3 is not a specification. It's a test to see how correctly something supports the existing published standards (for DOM, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS).
A low score means that the browser's behavior doesn't do what it's supposed to when it loads a document. For most web-developers, the difficulty for them stems from having to work around the unpredictable behavior of the browser (the various versions of IE are notorious), and failure to support basic features of the technology. - bcamp1973, on 09/27/2008, -2/+16WTF?
- Ragingcnu, on 09/27/2008, -1/+151) He's quoting the article
2) If you want the sources refer to: "According to Wikipedia..." - diothar, on 09/27/2008, -1/+14I wonder if 700 billion dollars would be enough?
- Altotus, on 09/27/2008, -1/+14No. It just means that non-IE is approaching a uniform feature set that is well-documented and reliably implemented, and IE now becomes the sole exception to "the rule". You can now just worry about making a proper application, and then apply IE-specific work-arounds as necessary.
You'll have software that are "web browsers" and then you'll have IE, which will become a Microsoft technology platform not unlike a web-browser with many similar features. - stalefries, on 09/27/2008, -3/+15I don't know what this is supposed to mean, but I think you win today's Internet.
- NathanielJ, on 09/27/2008, -2/+14It's not like this is hard-to-reproduce scientific data. Go to the Acid3 page in those browsers.
- raydeen, on 09/27/2008, -1/+12I just tried it in IE7 and...it was an absolute mess. I *think* it got a score of 12. There was so much jumbled text and graphics on the screen it wasn't funny. Plus, it wanted to run an ActiveX control of some sort. Didn't help.
- Theisos, on 09/27/2008, -2/+12Correction: Epic Fail.
- chrysalis, on 09/27/2008, -1/+10Webkit is wonderful.
But as long as IE doesn't catch up, webmasters are screwed. We are still limited to the lowest common denominator. - mdew, on 09/27/2008, -1/+9Firefox 3.1-alpha has improved its acid3 rating, http://img90.imageshack.us/my.php?image=acid32vp9. ... though unsure if it'll reach 100/100 by the release
- lcmatt, on 09/27/2008, -2/+10iFrames are the spawn of Satan.
- hmunkey, on 09/27/2008, -4/+12Why does Acid3 matter? Anyoen care to explain it? (This is a serious question as I have no idea.)
When I'm using IE (like on a different computer), I don't notice any major issues. - barktwiggs, on 09/27/2008, -1/+8I think they must have the mini and the Mobile scores confused. Opera Mobile 9.5 should be on par with the desktop version, whereas mini is a stripped down browser for cell phones and devices.
- barktwiggs, on 09/27/2008, -4/+11Come on Opera 10! Where are you at?!
- AgmLauncher, on 09/28/2008, -0/+6IE6 is the only reason why negative 0 can mathematically exist....
- JoshuaGross, on 09/27/2008, -0/+6It tests CSS rendering and Javascript, among many other things: http://www.webstandards.org/action/acid3
- kijiro, on 09/28/2008, -0/+5"They felt Acid3 is one person's take on the web..."
Well that "one person" is Ian Hickson, the editor of the HTML 5 spec. If anyone should be thinking about what the web is, it should be him. Anyway. he wasn't the only person to contribute tests to Acid 3.

- jzraikes, on 09/27/2008, -4/+9Is it just me or does Google Chrome get a different result every time the page is reloaded?
I'm using Chrome 0.2.153.1 - Seth024, on 09/27/2008, -0/+5Holy crap, I knew it was bad, but IE7 is just aweful at the Acid3 test.
- DreamSynthesis, on 09/27/2008, -0/+4Not sure why you are being dugg down since you are right, the result varies by a couple points each time. Not sure why though.
- HeavyWave, on 09/27/2008, -0/+4I wouldn't say support for JS in Opera Mini is so great.
- twiztidsinz, on 09/27/2008, -1/+5I think someone passed acid before typing their message......
I'm not going to say who, but.... I taste purple! - Atomic1fire, on 09/27/2008, -1/+5IE is still the worst.
Innovation? lolwut... thats some acid there.
Compatibillity? no seriously you must be joking.
multiplatform? more like lol other platforms don't exist. - martk, on 09/27/2008, -1/+5Well, as good news as this is, this will not help me with my job. The only solution is dragging IE6.5 to the street and shooting it. But the scenario is never going to happen. Sad panda.
- WildTang3nt, on 09/27/2008, -0/+4What about 6.0?
- zynaps, on 09/27/2008, -1/+5Chrome is not a threat to Firefox. In fact the last week Chrome has lost users while Firefox has gained users. The only reason Chrome has a high uptake in the statistics was because people were trying it out. Now most have switched back to their old browsers again.
- kwilliam, on 09/28/2008, -0/+3No, you're not limited to the lowest common denominator! Lynx still doesn't support graphics. You're just making a choice not to ask users to download another browser.
Webmasters have a choice. They can work their butt off to be IE compliant, or they can put a note on their webpage that says, "Hey! Our website is too cool for you, get a modern browser." People aren't going to ditch IE if they can use it for all the cool sites, yet most web developers don't yet have the balls to inform users that IE stinks. Lots of websites say "hey, you need Flash player" or you're basically screwed and can't view the website. Maybe if the functionality gap between IE and the rest widens enough, more websites will start saying "hey, you need a non-IE browser" or you're basically screwed and can't view the site. - WiseWeasel, on 09/27/2008, -0/+3Webkit is also used as an embedded web rendering library for native apps, so if you make an app that can take advantage of all these new features, it doesn't matter how far behind the installed web browser is.
- Gavagai80, on 09/27/2008, -0/+3You're right, there's absolutely no difference between a phone and a desktop.
- ZeMeisterstuck, on 09/27/2008, -0/+3like a schools faculty to student ratio?
- Wakuko, on 09/27/2008, -2/+4haha, went to facebook in IE6 just to see that message.
Dissappointed :-( - Nicoon, on 09/27/2008, -0/+2Yes, they did.

I disagree that web standards are a problem. I think the problem has been the _lack_ of web standards- or at least the following of web standards. Web Standards help ensure all browsers behave the same when rendering the same content, which is something that can only be good. Otherwise, we have the internet as it is today, where every browser behaves a little differently. It may not seem like a big deal to you, but when you are developing web applications, it is.
Only someone who has never done heavy-duty web development would say that lack of browser compatibility makes life 'a bit tedious'. It's time consuming, frustrating and, from a business perspective, very expensive to develop for multiple browsers. The really irritating part is that it doesn't have to be. The browser vendors should concentrate on getting what's already there working fully and completely before tacking on all those 'new technologies and new paradigms'. - spiffyfitz, on 09/27/2008, -1/+3dugg for neutrons, lasers, and hilarious faces.
