Probably because you suffer from cognitive dissonance. Another symptom is using multiple punctuation marks for emphasis. - Genericity, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Firefox is a browser - a simple browser - it wasn't the first and it won't be the last. It isn't the greatest - it is isn't the worst.
I am getting sick of all these browser stories... am I the only one?
Why do I think of AJAX stories whenever I see a story on Firefox???? - Cerberus047, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i loooved ie then i heard all these firefox whores talk about how awesome firefox is and how sucky ie is so i gave it a try, and it was awesome and easy to use and it got me familiar with all the cool features like rss feeds and tabbed browsing, but as fate would have it i have heard from more whores about this thing called opera i gave that a try and man was i impresed, i didnt like how opera handled the rss feeds but thats ok, this browser is fast and it has bunches of stuff built in like page saver and mouse gestures, plus firefox 1.5 had memory hog issues, i like firefox and its a great browser but i would suggest that to people to get familier with all the features then switch to opera because it can be very overwhelming when you first use it, and many extentions that firefox has were invented by opera, and my fav feature of opera is not really a useful one but a fun one, highlighting anything and pressing v and it will read it to you, thats kick ass!!
- Zero456, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You mean Foxit Reader?
http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I ditched firefox for OSX awhile back and went to Camino (only because Safari kind of sucks and OmniWeb constantly crashes and is out of date). After 1.5, I came back and it runs on all of my OSX, Windows, Linux, Solaris platforms.
It runs surprisingly better on OSX than before. I even have a bunch of my favorite extensions installed and it doesn't seem to be killing my powerbook. It even looks a lot better by default. More OSX-ish and not so much like a fisher price toy. - pacificdave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@xytremd
you might as well use IE with the msn toolbar....
Firefox is the shiznit. been using Firefox for a year now. tried Opera recently when they went free and found many pages didn't render correctly. Opera "did" load quicker initially and used less system memory but still slowed down after many tabs were open at the same time. so for ease of use, variety of plug-ins, quicker load after initial start, and just damn cool. Firefox has them all beat. - ccanni1028, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0uzig- 1.5 definitely loads faster than 1.0.x and isn't as sluggish. If you get the Tabbrowser Preferences extension, you can have the tabs on the bottom in any version.
- boicraig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I just switched yesterday. Adblock + filterset.G is a godsend, as is Noscrpit and SessionSaver. :D
+digg - Jammerdelray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0download the pdf extension for firefox :P

Foxit PDF Viewer - pseudojd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I couldn't get acrobat to work with it. anybody know of that free and fast acrobat solution?
- wrinkles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0TFA didn't mention FireFox's extensions, which is the single greatest strength. Biggest problem right now is it eats 200MB of RAM on the mac. While I'm complaining, I'd like to see the "window" menu show both pages AND tabs. A few pages with 6-7 tabs and I can't find a damn thing anymore. It's easier to google a new page than finds a tab.
- uziq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't know.. I always try FF with each new version, but it's still slower than Crazy Browser (which I've been using for over 3 yrs). I've never messed with extensions though. and still don't know why folders aren't on top of my favs.
don't get me wrong, I want to like it, and I'm a programmer, but I'm not gonna mess with hacking css files to get tabs on the bottom. - zelig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I use ALL browsers. Doesn't everybody?
- brundlefly76, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0FF is definitely the most usable and feature-packed browser, but it is also the slowest (compared to Opera and IE) in startup and rendering (1.5 is even slower then 1.0x). It also has a bad history of memory leaks not compeltely fixed in 1.5.
http://www.howtocreate.co.uk/browserSpeed.html#winspeed - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Is there anyone honest enough to admit they actually use IE???
Shudder... - squeakypants, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i can't get any plugins to work with 1.5 (flash, shockwave, media, etc.), but 1.0.7 works perfectly so i'm just staying with it.
- masterofshadows, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Is there anyone honest enough to admit they actually use IE???"
Yep, under crossover office no less, had to install it for some school stuff (though opera is my main browser) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I just switched yesterday. Adblock + filterset.G is a godsend, as is Noscrpit and SessionSaver. :D"
Another really great extension to add is the "color tabs" extension. It makes it so that every tab has a different color/shade. It sounds goofy but when you see it in action, it's really nice and helps mentally separate the content of different windows/tabs that you're dealing with. Note that there is one that has "color hashes" with little square color blocks. That is not the one to get. Get the one that colors the complete tab background.
And while I'm on it - the other problem with Firefox is that a lot of good extensions are broken each time a Firefox main point release comes and it can take awhile for all your favorites to be compatible. - howie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0brundlefly76 wrote:

Huh? Feature packed? Firefox? Surely you jest! Wasn't Firefox's main attraction supposed to be its simplicity and that they removed most of the old features? - jedinate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I always laugh uncontrollably when I hear people saying they don't use FF cause it starts up slower than other browsers. If you don't have an extra 2 seconds for your browser to load, maybe you don't have enough time to be surfing the Internet...
- stonebear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+01.5 breaks so many extensions, I'm giving them a couple of months to adapt to it before I upgrade my Firefox.
- zelig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0FF 1.5 sometimes opens Quicktime movies in multiple windows on my Mac G5. Everything works fine on the G4 laptop.
- ethicalbypass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I couldn't get acrobat to work with it. anybody know of that free and fast acrobat solution?"
If you have the latest Acrobat on your computer, Firefox will detect it automatically...
OR if you don't then...
Download the Acrobat Plug-in from here: https://pfs.mozilla.org/plugins/?application=firefox - thecoolestcow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"1.5 breaks so many extensions, I'm giving them a couple of months to adapt to it before I upgrade my Firefox."
Not really. All my extensions work, although I _did_ have to do a little searching to get the newest versions. All the developers know that 1.5 came out, and it's (usually) not hard for them to make it compatible with 1.5. - MrSunshine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+01.5 randomly crashes everyday on my system, no matter what websites I visit.
- kinderstod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0YES, everyone switch to Firefox, enjoy the 50000 MB's of memory it eats off your Comp for no apparent reason! LONG LIVE OPEN SOURCE!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It wont take long till 1.5 extensions comes out.. people should upgrade.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0OMG, for the 100th time, for extensions that does not work under ff 1.5 just modify the xpi file manually and all extention would work under ff 1.5
- sHARD>>, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Or Opera! Opera is cool too!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0The only problem with Firefox is the number of CRAP extensions you have to sort through. Seriously - why do I need an "Abe Vigoda Status Extension"?!
- xytremd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Meh, tried FF, uninstalled it and went back to Maxthon.
- nnonix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"Get all the facts before you type, or just stfu"
endtwist obviously has been having sex with his firefox and can't stand it when it is criticized.
"Is there anyone honest enough to admit they actually use IE???"
I use it with Windows. I use several sites that require ActiveX which FF doesn't support.
I also have to say IE also notably faster than FF running on the same machine. On Linux however, I do use FF exclusively. - jingles, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Opera or STFU!
- uziq, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0there's always little quirks that keep me from using FF. for one thing, it takes awhile to load, and is sluggish. Plus, I want the tabs to be on the bottom. the favorites menu doesn't not have the subfolders sorted on top of the list.. etc, etc.
- theundone, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Most have already seen it and some people think I'm stupid, but I've been using Avant Browser for a couple of years now and still like it. Even if it is based on IE :)

Uh...yeah. It really doesn't take very long to load anymore, nor is it sluggist. You can easily move the tab bar to the bottom (http://digg.com/mods/Move_the_Firefox_Tab_Bar). The subfolders in my bookmarks are sorted on top of the list, and I didn't do it manually, so I don't know what you're talking about.
Get all the facts before you type, or just stfu.
