That's way too long. That would seriously cut into my Digg trolling time. - davidshq, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15I think its a pretty nifty program. I'm giving it a try.
- quickgold192, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14so I download a program that sends my computer usage to a remote server, which then links that usage to a username? Sounds a lot like voluntary spyware.
- warkro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10it's called update-manager.
- blueace, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13I agree, time that could be spent on things like uuh... spamming a certain digit code? ;)
- blueace, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Well, I think it's more like "myware" right? Spying on yourself?
- BradC, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9>>Of course, in the backend, your daily software usage patterns are passed on to Wakoopa which keeps track of your software profile.
>>
So it sends my software usage habits to Wakoopa, who then tracks that usage? Ummm... no thanks. - Xyleene, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10I use ubuntu.
- azazel00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6My point exactly. Either they sell it to an advertising company, or they sell it to the government. Im not much of a conspiracy theorist, but that's a pretty nifty business model.
- lemot66, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7What a nightmare. Think for a minute about the security implications of using this site. Say that people actually decide to use this, it becomes the next big thing, blah blah blah. What a resource for a hacker to gather reconnaissance, huh? It lets you browse the users, see what software they're running, version numbers, etc. Yeah, so what? Well suppose I see the user name, C00Ldude1986...and then I see this person is using AIM, MSN Messenger, Gmail Notifier, etc. What do you think the chances are that's the Hotmail address, or Gmail address, or screen name, or whatever, of this unsuspecting person? Maybe those email addresses are tied to banks, e-commerce sites, other similar websites? Furthermore, what if this person is running an old Apache Tomcat web server, of which I can tell the exact version? Do you think an attacker might be able to find a known exploit for whatever un-patched application is being used, especially with the knowledge of what probable login id's would be? I'd bet soup to nuts that you'll be targeted for an attack, even if by some script kiddie who wants to see what he/she is capable of.
My point is this - social networking should only go so far, and smart users should *consider* security implications before they divulge private information - and yes, granular details on your computing habits *is private*. I don't blame anyone for wanting to use a new, nifty app like this, but please people...think about it.
And now I can go justify to myself why I even took the time to write this when I could be making dinner. - loffeecover, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Hmm, once you're logged in go to:
Here you'll find both a windows and a Mac OSX version. - dfndoe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6@warkro:
Well, with most Linux distributions there is indeed automated (or near automated) software updates, however in the vast space that makes up the free software world there is very little guidance as to what apps are crap and which ones are gold. If a package doesn't make it into the base install of a distro or get bundled with KDE or Gnome desktop there is very little exposure for it. I would certainly jump at the chance to see actual recommend software based on usage patterns that have been run through a collaborative filter. I'm sure I'm not the only one either... - azazel00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5So can Big Brother.
- peorth, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Check http://osx.iusethis.com - but only for MacOS programs... and you have to choose the programs you use :)
- erkokite, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Stupid, ***** Web 2.0 names. ***** them all. *****!
- evilTak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"(um, aren’t Linux users software-lovers as well? After all they do make it themselves ;-))"
Debian and Ubuntu users have popcon: http://popcon.debian.org http://popcon.ubuntu.com - tallguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I just wrote the wikipedia entry, from scratch: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wakoopa
- loconet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Does it show version numbers as well? Fun time exploiting those unpatched programs..
- jigarmehtamscit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Its good.. I think after it has data for few days, it can show up many stastics and graphs.. !
One thing I like about it is, it shows "what you do" !! - bmxboy661, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3mac version is released in 2 days
- Baku, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Plus the website appears to be dead.
- loconet, on 10/12/2007, -7/+9Only works for Mac/Windows ... I'll pass.
- incidentflux, on 12/13/2008, -0/+1I agree! A Wakoopa tracker for all (major) mobile platforms, including the largest mobile platform i.e. (Nokia) Symbian S60. Wouter (from Wakoopa) already said on the Wakoopa blog that they'll open source the tracker.
http://blog.wakoopa.com/2008/10/09/we-now-support- ...
And yes a tracker for Nokia Symbian S60 is on the way too, according to their response on getsatisfaction...
http://getsatisfaction.com/wakoopa - sidyadav, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I created/registered Rev2.org a couple months before Revision3 and it stands for 'Revolution 2.' Even I was surprised the first time I watched Diggnation!
- IjonTichy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Mugshot looks far too MySpacey for me. Yuck.
- amblin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Mugshot, http://www.mugshot.org/, does application usage tracking and a whole lot more.
- getsk3wled, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1i agree.
horrible idea.....security is making everyone VUNERABLE up the wazoo. - DariusMonsef, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The patriot act allows the US Gov. to get information from Google and they know just about everything... so All Your Base Already Belong to U.S.
- b05q, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1are you kidding me? this is a joke, right?
if it is. it's pretty funny. - kalmi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Well, it got deleted....
:D
Next time do it properly - damentz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2~~(apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade)~~
- heidtmare, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2i am very impressed by this. It lets me see all the stuff everybody is using, and how onfen its being used.
People can also rate certain programs.
This is a very well implemented idea. - jumpfroggy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Yeah, I thought the same thing. At first I thought it might be an offshoot, but looks like it's just a coincidence.
- eden159, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Well, the username C00Ldude1986 does not give you any information about it's IP address - just the program he/she uses. If you manage to find the IP address behind that username then OK.
- MarkJulina, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Hello!
I'd recommend PG Social Networking Software by PilotGroup.Ltd for easy Social Network creation http://www.datingpro.com/social/features.php. - davidrossiii, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1where's the mac version?
- blueace, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Wakoopa is not based in the US ;)
- Dooglus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I use ubuntu too, but there's no linux client available - only windows and osx :(
- wiiwii, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0windows mm.. :)

---- - lakuma, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I used Filehippo's utility to find updates to my software, even though it's in beta it found several updates:
http://www.filehippo.com/updatechecker/ - SanjayM, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3Takes FAR less than five minutes, it took me about a minute including downloading software installing it and logging on, very slick, i was impressed.
- mfalk, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2no linux version? wtf
- Jomwilli, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2meh, I use betanews to alert me when things are updated, or new versions are out.
- johanvm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Nice program, now I can track how much time I spend designing, photoshopping, drawing (CAD), rendering, ...
- smilingcatfish, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1I would suggest the social source commons - a similar site - http://beta.socialsourcecommons.org/
- jake61, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1This is awesome.
Now I want this on my S60 smartphone! - DarkXanthos, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3@SanjayM
