- Googled, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've finally finished downloading this, and have uploaded it to yousendit it any one wants a faster download
http://s43.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0V704X341IO5J3GQNFV5HSTWLZ - TheNik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1People, don't download from the main mirror, download from the second one. I was pulling a whole MB.
I haven't really found anything different in this version besides the new cone. Why is it a cone, anyways? :X - Qopax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1lol tarun, how about not needing any codecs whatsoever to play pretty much everything... I'm pretty sure MPC doesn't have that heh
it makes life so much easier, plus there are no more problems with codecs interfering with one another, etc. - Chris_F, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1VLC is a good, multi-platform video player with many features. I remember watching videos encoded in H.264 with it before apple released their version of QT7 for Windows.
- k3n85, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1it needs a full screen menu, kinda like wmp, so i don't have to keep bring down to minimal size to pause/play/ff/rew ... but still the best :D like the wallpaper option
- LouisC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1well, VLC does have skinning. If you don't like the interface, skin it.
- tweeto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The counter is for 0.8.2 like it shows in the title or is it for the new 0.8.4?, because the last version passed the million downloads if i remember correctly...
- tweeto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well i was right about passing the million but i missed 9 million others, so i guess the counter is really for the new version...
http://digg.com/software/10_million_downloads_for_VLC - wingo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0well i don't like the gui for it. but i do use it!
- vanlandw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0no WMV3 support on OSX yet...damn...oh well...best player around regardless
- gishnob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i love vlc, best media player ever
- caltd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Official Mirror Serv URL:
http://www.videolan.org/mirror.php?file=vlc/0.8.4/win32/vlc-0.8.4-win32.exe - Kaspar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah, kudos to the guys @ VLC! I have been using it on my Apple laptop and it's hands downs the best video player for OS X. Keep the good stuff coming.
- tarun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I find VLC's interface really clunky compared to MPC. The only feature VLC has that MPC doesn't is Wallpaper mode where it overlays the video directly over the desktop.
- SmeRndmGy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yeah it seems that the france one is the only one that is slow. i just grabbed it real fast from the third one.
- MikhoohkiM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0does the download #'s on the right side always go up that fast? or is it a digg affect?
- MikhoohkiM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0is this on as a torrent file?
- gODfall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wo0t! Woo0t! Thx vlc media your mah new bestest friend. :)
- beertinted, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@googled: Thanks!
- Gunnyman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0note to Mac Tivo users. This version seems to break ty streaming.
I had to go back to .8.2 to stream shows from my tivo again - akumiszcza, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well, I downloaded it after reading the comments and must admit that it's the WORST VIDEO PLAYER I HAVE EVER USED. First of all, it took me 5 or 10 minutes to figure out how to use subtitles in it (the support for it was hidden). I could not change the font to anything useful (the font look crappy on fullscreen whichever font I chose, can be in only one colour (without any border or anything)). It takes now 7 clicks to open a video with subtitles... I don't think it's possible to choose other subtitles during playback. The worst thing is, when I stopped and rewinded the video, it completely lost track of the timing and stopped showing subtitles correctly.
Did any of "vlc lovers" actually used subtitles in it? I doubt it... - snowdog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Damn, this release is so snappy.
Starts movies much faster than earlier, on Mac OS X. - dreamkatcha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0VLC is the most bestestest media player ever, but I'm already using version 0.8.5, thanks.
- fatsobob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I love this new VLC Player, It has many new features that I find useful.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Is it just me or do all of the zoom options (quarter/half/original/double) go to the original size? It's not like I can't manually resize it... but that has been annoying me.
- j.carcinogen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0too bad its not for intel archetectues.
- pcgeek101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Anyone know of a changelog url? I can't seem to find one. Thanks
- Greenboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0vlc rocks
- kajoob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wasn't going to upgrade until I read there was a new cone icon.
- akumiszcza, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@jtjin: As I said, I've found these subtitles options (these were turned off by default). There is even an option to change the font, but even when I change it to large Arial Unicode, it doesn't look good on the screen, much, much worse than vobsub filter.
- Kaspar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Is it just me or 0.8.4 breaks PNG snapshots taking? At least on OS X it freaks out. JPG still works though...
- j.carcinogen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0^^ pertaining to OS X
- j.carcinogen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0damn, sry i just read jtjin's response >.
- SteveChisnall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Kickass. *patpats his trusty RISC based PowerBook, which outperforms any CISC x86 CPU of identical clock speed* ZeroConf support. Have I died and gone to Heaven?
- republicoftexas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Still no ASCII art video output for windoze, damn. I really need to get my Linux box up and running.
- j.carcinogen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@akumiszcza
rightclick on the video and you will see available subtitle options. - JtJin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0akumiszcza:
Did you try right-clicking on the video itself? There's a submenu there ... Subtitles Track >
(on a softsubbed .mkv file)
Although, I have to agree, the subtitle filter is kinda limited, can't even display typeset ones properly :( ... I'll stick with MPC+ffDshow for now. - kenchie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Shows Windows media player how it should be done.
- almost_crazy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0crap they don't have the pocket pc one out yet
- ct2000, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0yep download sloooow ... I'm sure it will be worth the wait !
- veritech, on 10/12/2007, -1/+06 downloads a second, that might be why
Damn, i love open source - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0ftp dls at 100kb/s
-2olf - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0*Really* slow... I'm pulling it at 3k/s
Anyone got a torrent? - Googled, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Any one else getting SLOW downloads.
Im bearley getting 2KBps on an 8Mb connection :/ - hellsyeah, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0wow that is like the worst site design ever. And it is slow as hell. Maybe the digg effect has got it dunno...
- Hugh_Janis, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Holy crap! they killed Kenny!
- gookie, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0oh gawd. what's with these diggs about software releases without them being a "point release" errrrr.
What is Digg?
