- Anrkist, on 10/11/2007, -10/+42I will ignore the comment above.... but jews were not the only people who died during the holocaust. I think it's time we started to remember the rest as well.
- fname, on 10/11/2007, -3/+34From the mission statement listed on their page, "Although Jews were the primary victims of Nazi racism, others targeted for death included tens of thousands of Roma (Gypsies) and at least 200,000 mentally or physically disabled people. As Nazi tyranny spread across Europe, the Germans persecuted and murdered millions of other people. More than three million Soviet prisoners of war were murdered or died of starvation, disease, or maltreatment. The Germans killed tens of thousands of non-Jewish Polish intellectual and religious leaders, and deported millions of Polish and Soviet citizens for forced labor. From the earliest years of the Nazi regime, homosexuals and others deemed to be socially unacceptable were persecuted. Thousands of political dissidents (including Communists, Socialists, and trade unionists) and religious dissidents (such as Jehovah's Witnesses) were also targeted. Many of these individuals died as a result of incarceration and maltreatment."

I hate things like that. It's just another way of saying "Get me to the front page so my blog can have 7 minutes in the spotlight". - noahhoward, on 10/11/2007, -6/+28Remind us? How the hell is anyone ever supposed to forget? Can we let the victims rest?
- pjack91, on 10/11/2007, -9/+28How about we get 40-100 million to remember the people that died under Stalin.
- allthewhile, on 10/11/2007, -4/+21We should remember the many millions who died as a result of WWII. Yes, lets remember and commemorate the 6 million Jews. But lets not forget the rest. For the love of God, let's remember the rest.

China Military 1,400,000 Civilian 8,000,000 - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -8/+18id rather have people move on after such terrible events-- much like with 9/11, we just need to learn to move on and focus on what's going on right now in the world we live in.
- adidos, on 10/11/2007, -4/+13Direct link (skip the blog spam): http://www.flickr.com/groups/6millionpeople/
- mykos, on 10/11/2007, -10/+17Why can't we just have a memorial without someone like you trying to awkwardly throw your own politics into it? You are free to make your own, so go do it. Don't foul this thread up.
- eviltuxking, on 10/11/2007, -4/+11While jakem1's comment is totally tactless, he or she has a valid point. People in Palestine are dying still today, yet instead all we think about is the Holocaust victims, even though it happened scores of years ago. Why can't we remember the Holocaust victims AND the Palestinians who are dying, and also the Israelis who are dying (innocent children aren't responsible for taking land).
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -5/+10By all means, go for it.
- martinvives, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7I'm deeply sorry for the victims of holocaust - just as I am for the rest of victims of wars and other genocides. There is genocides going on TODAY in African countries (look out for Darfur) and nobody talks about them. Lets put our efforts in avoiding that thinks like this keep happening. Germans have payed enough for what they did... Maybe today Israel threw a bomb in some Palestinian neighborhood...But yeah, they are protecting themselves, against rock-throwing *terrorists*.
- partytimeloser, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Wow, it's nice to see that cultural prejudice is still alive and well. If Digg has done anything for me since I have started using this site, it's that people are still huge *****. It really makes me sick to see all these posts being like "get over it," or "what about this group, they suffered too," or my personal favorite "the Jews are profiting enough."
Guess what; Not all Jews are Rich, Black people do not cause all the crime, and all Asians are not good at math.
If there anything people should "get over," it's their narrow minded views of other cultures. - UnityDivide, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Let's also not forget the Incans from Central American. All 24 million of them that were killed in battle, and died from disease when the Europeans came to this continent.
- Comanche, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Dugg down because uneducated people think that the Holocaust was all jews. Many other people died during the war.
- Zap2, on 10/11/2007, -3/+613 Million people died....6Million were Jewish people. Its very sad that any person had to die because of their religion, race, sex, orination, ethical backround etc....but it feels like we're spiting in the other 7M people's faces who died, when people say the "6M victims of the Holocaust"...I mean if they said the 6M Jewish victims of the holoecaust, then atleast we'd know they were only look at the Jews who did(not all that fair, but it has a large % of Jews would died vs the % of other groups who died)....but that isn't what they did. They ignored the 7 other million killed.
Dugg Down for ignoring 7Million murder people - Uranium118, on 10/11/2007, -13/+16Why do you live in the past? Move on, get over it, it was more than 50 years ago, don't we have other problem to deal with?
- lithera, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Because, A: History has a tendency to repeat itself and B: Humans have the tendency to not learn from their mistakes in the past.
THAT is why we should stop and think about the past every now and then. Just a reminder for everyone how utterly stupid the human race can be. - kidd3ckz, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Because you learn from the past you *****- Otherwise we're doomed to make the same mistakes.
- JanYpe, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5He sure did!
- LordVance, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3@mykos - "Why can't we remember the Holocaust victims AND the Palestinians who are dying, and also the Israelis who are dying (innocent children aren't responsible for taking land)."

We can, and we definitely should. I think the thread starter is getting dug down because people always try and draw comparisons between various tragedies, when all they are really doing is cheapening BOTH events. We should remember all victims; the best course of action though is to start or support a different group that centers around that event, as apposed to coming here and cheapening both of them by turning it into a "This event was worse! Those people deserved to die! argument."
While his intentions may have been great and honorable, people will always cheapen it and disrespect the victims of both events when someone draws comparisons like that. - sharigan, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5how the ***** posting self-potraits or your loved ones help contribute the memories of the holocaust? this is ***** retarded!
- idamonster, on 10/11/2007, -8/+10For those who are saying - get over it and move on. Jesus died two thousand years ago.. as soon as the Christians get over that and move on, we'll all be a lot happier. Let's concentrate efforts on that.
Remembering the holocaust is important so that we don't repeat it. - nawitus, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5Why don't we make a memorial for freedom of speech in EU while we're at it? I haven't seen much fuzz about that recent EU legislation basicly banning scientific research about certain historical events.
- inspecality, on 10/11/2007, -4/+65 million other people besides the Jews died, but they aren't remembered as often. It's *****.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2so difficult to seperate ***** rabid rabid zionists from normal jews I know and love (I live in brooklyn)
in reality, however, hopefully _someday_ everyone will agree on a 2 state solution and things will dies down
of course then there will always be the holocaust of africans being stolen for the slave trade... - mykos, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Jewish people will never forget the other holocaust victims; they lived and died side-by-side with all the others in the concentration camps. The Jews' memory and accounts of what happened to everyone are living testaments to the atrocities committed against the other groups which were slaughtered.
The Jews got more attention because the racial targeting was unprecedented in the scope and number (there's an account that at one camp, they were able to gas 1200 people at a time in a single chamber!) in the modern era. It's possible that we will never again see such advanced efficiency in the pursuit of evil. - balla786, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5We've already been repeating it, in different ways. In Iraq, we've been repeating it since 1991. In Palestine since 1948.
- eledu81, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Lets remenber all the people who died in the great flood, millions of people were murdered by the jew's god, included dinosaurs, giants and angels who live in the earth.. I think we must remember those poor people
oh wait - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2who said it's 6 million anyway?
- noahhoward, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1And by focusing on the past you tend to ignore the present. You don't learn from the past by obsessing over it, all you accomplish is drawing attention away from the road underfoot.
Simple analogy, try driving a car with your head turned to look out the back. - Tarnum, on 10/11/2007, -9/+10BLOGSPAM!
Do not click on the link! - CPops, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1How about remembering the free speech that used to exist in Europe instead?
- pintomp3, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2i think they are referring to political profiting. though it's not really jews profiting as much as it is zionists. it's really a shame that there are people who would use the death and suffering of millions of people to their agenda. the worst part is we have learned nothing. people use the tragedy of 9/11 to further their own political agendas too. in both cases, causing even more death and suffering.
- noahhoward, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1"Pushing the Holocaust agenda over and over again will eventually make it meaningless."
Too late. - bbardlbradd, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1LOS LOS LOS!
I just posted 2 - noahhoward, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Thank you, ball! It is already abundantly apparent that no one, not least of all the Jews themselves, has learned dick from the holocaust.
- LordVance, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1For the most part, we do move on. However, theres nothing wrong with taking 10 minutes out of your day once in a while to look back and reflect on the past. Once someone finishes reading the short article, they go back to their in-the-now lives.
I'd say a larger problem with society is that most people tend to live in the future, and spend their entire lives working for "tomorrow." - fname, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2From the mission statement listed on their page, "Although Jews were the primary victims of Nazi racism, others targeted for death included tens of thousands of Roma (Gypsies) and at least 200,000 mentally or physically disabled people. - rhabd0mancer, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Why don't the jews focus their energy on stopping current genocides instead of whining about the past?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4How about jews learn from the holocaust and stop the genocide against Palestinians
- nick111, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Isn't this basically a flickr chain letter?
It's just an attention getting excercise as far as I can see.
Give it a bit of impact - use photographs of people who are in prison NOW. There are 2 million in America alone - it shouldn't be that hard, and as we're now operating torture camps of our own... Guantanamo, Abu Graeb etc etc... maybe we can raise awareness about peope who are gratuitously suffering now, rather than this seemingly endless exhumation of something that happened 50 years ago. - kidd3ckz, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1So people are posting their own pics?
Thats not what I thought was going on.... - smoothdude, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0zap did you go to the flickr group and read the description?
- getsk3wled, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1i HATE blog spam. >.< stupid idiots trying to get hits.
i think this was a good idea though....
though i'm not sure how it helps us remember, when we never really can forget. - nelziq, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1What's with the digg downs on Admirabumblebee's comment? Common people, its a joke. I guess some people didn't read past the first sentence.
- Comanche, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Where have you been? Thats why the internet is here. We can speak however we want to. If any one of these people spoke some of these comments in the real world the would be shunned/fired/beat up.
Welcome 2 da Interweb!

Everyone should be remembered, not just the 6 million. - smoothdude, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0I am an admin for the group.. please join up if you have some photos you would like to add.
And read the group description, this isn't meant to disregard the millions of other people who died at the hands of the nazi's.. please read up and feel free to join.
http://flickr.com/groups/6millionpeople/ - lollerkeet, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Thank heavens for this! I'd almost forgotten the Holocaust!
There have been other genocides. All of this attention placed on the Jewish/Roma losses delegitimises the losses of Armenians, Tutsis and others who have faced similar horror, and subtly makes us think of genocide as a thing of the past.
Perhaps six million photos of Palestinians would be a useful tribute? -
