- ctheory, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Great email client. Got to love it.
But...i'm starting to use Operas client in the new beta 9 that I just downloaded...I actually like having it all integrated. Pretty f'ing cool, if you ask me.
Cheers to the good info! Thanks! - ctheory, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Maybe you should stop off at the TB website and make a suggestion for that. :)
Only suggestions make the software better! - CharlesDarwin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The title should read "Use Thunderbird lika a pro in 9 short ass paragraphs." But I suspect pro is not the right word.
- mooninite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If the contact is in your address book, then when you start typing a person's name or email it will pop up a box with suggested completions. If you're not getting this... somethings wrong with your install.
- clabbergrrl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Sure, I use it all the time, even for podcasts, it works great.
It would help to know *what* error you're getting. "I got an error" isn't very informative. - Zuhaib, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hey dudinatrix, i dugg you down.. But not because what you said but...
I think your off the mark with your comment/problem with thunderbird i think has to do more with the file systems your dealing with here. From the sounds of it, your accessing a NTFS file from Linux, and that has never been 100% perfect. Also, if your using hibernate mode, that's another big problem. So, as your problem i feel has nothing to do with really thunderbird, i dugg it down. I dint usually make a post about dumb things like this, but, just so others don't think its some problem with thunderbird (and it might be, i dint know... In Linux i am all command line and windows i use Outlook). - vertigoblue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2it syncs with my ipod...
- bsoric, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm trying to switch to Evolution, but RSS in Thunderbird is just too good. I use it heaps for Digg, Security Advisories etc.
- vann, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yes, Thunderbird does do this. It can use both your local address book, which it does automatically, and an external server, which you have to configure. I use my university's LDAP server, for example.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1A Pro??? Please, A pro cant even sync his mobile with Thunderbird LOL
I went back to a REAL PIM, Outlook. When Evoluton is ported, then maybe I shall consider that if it had mobile sync.
ActiveSync is PUBLICALLY DOCUMENTED ON MSDN, I guess Microsoft is right, the FOSS movement is not capable of writing quality products. ActiveSync is too complex for htem. - JAKL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Good extra info...digg for that
- bsoric, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not as far as I know, sorry. You can view the comments page, but you need to actually log in to digg the story.
- blueigloo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Digg for getting the word out about Thunderbird
- fiftyfifty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@lava
The Mozilla Lightning project, which integrates a calendar into Thunderbird and other Mozilla projects, is the most likely place to see synching with PDAs. Several months back I was talking to some of the developers and checking out the Lightning roadmap, and sadly, PDA/PocketPC synching is quite a long way off. - error401, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1D'oh, that quote collapser extension seems to have messed up my TBird profile. Crashed it during install and now it won't start. Yay for not making profile backups!
- dudinatrix, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4I've been using Thunderbird for maybe two years, mainly because it allowed me to use the same mailbox between Linux and Windows (dual boot). However, I've found that Thunderbird profiles got corrupt WAY too often for me, most likely because my XP session would hibernate, and I'd turn back on into Linux, thus corrupting the profile because it was still technically in-use by the XP session. Of course that's all just theory, but either way.. it got *really* annoying.
Just yesterday, I switched all of my email accounts from Thunderbird into Gmail, and I am absolutely loving the switch into 1 inbox with labels. There's a few things Gmail still needs to work on (ie signatures, color coding, etc.), but I'd recommend the move to those interested. - casbury17, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I use Thunderbird for Digg RSS but is there any way to set it up so I can digg a story without having Thunderbird open a browser window?
- hasbeen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Kinda off topic, but does RSS work for anyone in thunderbird? Whenever I try to add a source I get an error. Tried searching online but never found a solution.
- etank, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I would like to see how to sync my gmail calendar with lightning. Has anyone been able to do that yet?
- 7of7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I had to download Thunderbird for my Linux install and I gotta say, it's decent, but not all that impressive. The one thing that I can't seem to make work is contact autocomplete. With Outlook, I can connect it to my ldap and it'll automatically find the email address if I type in the name and vice versa. For Thunderbird it doesn't even seem to do that with my own address book. Oh well though, it seems ok anyway.
- Rajio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1.....wait, there are professional thunderbird users?!?! how do I get THAT job?
- ferrix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Tied to outlook? That's the only thing that's got me tied to *Windows*.
- lava, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Anyone know if it will synchronize with my pocket pc yet? That's the only thing that's got me tied to outlook.
- Nowheredan, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Boring. Already knew all that stuff.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Good read, you beat me to it +digg!
