- Bara, on 10/12/2007, -4/+96I personally use Google's Browser Sync, and have had no problems with it: http://www.google.com/tools/firefox/browsersync/
- OmegaNine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23I like GoogleSync, i have been using it for months
- nstanosheck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22I prefer Google Browser Sync because it can optionally also synchronize your passwords, history, cookies, etc., and it will encrypt them too!
- ottodv, on 10/12/2007, -6/+24It's different, del.icio.us is a social bookmarking service. With Foxmarks your bookmarks remain private.
Foxmarks is a great extension, I use to synchronize my bookmarks across 3 systems. - FunkyWitDaSysTm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15been using this for a while. definitely saved my ass more than once.
- orangekid13, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16GOOGLE BROWSER SYNC FTW
- cStyled, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16Del.icio.us has an option to create "private" bookmarks.
- mp3dog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Does Foxmarks store your passwords too? I know that Google Browser Sync does.
- sishgupta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Thats cool I had no idea this existed. I might stop using foxmarks due to this.
- brasso, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9It touches only the bookmarks and nothing else.
- MarvelingOne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Yeah, I prefer the Google sync myself.
- tehbored, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7It's also a faster way to sync when you're dual-booting with multiple OS's.
- DietMountainDew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Same here, best extension IMO. It is only resource intensive the first time you use it, and if you do a full refresh.
- AshTR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It's been around for a while. So has Google Browser Sync.
But GBS is better than this. - EBFoxbat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Wish I knew it existed. You'd think that a company with such heavy ties to advertising would show their products more often.
- gedw99, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5A much easier way is to store all your bookmarks on a server.
Google bookmarks is not well know, but is great.
http://www.google.com/bookmarks
And there is a Firefox add on for it called Gmarks. It connects to Google bookmarks server to bring back the data, and yo can do updates.

- babylonian, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I bought a 1GB flash drive Friday and was wondering if anything like this existed.
God bless you Digg. - jamester, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I place another vote for del.icio.us and the del.icio.us extension. I love it - I keep my bookmarks synchronized between my work and home computers (a PC and a Mac, respectively) nicely. Change it on one, it changes in del.icio.us and the other computer. And yeah, they do have the option to NOT share your bookmarks.
- PeteLP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Foxmarks has been working great for me and seems MUCH more accurate with syncing than google browser sync.
For all of those who want Google Browser Sync for syncing Windows, Tabs, Passwords, and History, I recommend continuing to use GBS for ONLY those features, while TURNING OFF "Sync Bookmarks" in GBS, and using Foxmarks for your bookmarks.
That's what I've been doing. It's working great and seems to be the best of both worlds - scottelsdon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I used google Synch, but had the problem that you cant log into two computers ( or more) at the same time with it, so I changed to Foxmarks which allows this. Has google synch changed ? I do miss the alibity to synch passwords with foxmarks though, never mind.
- EricDraven, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Want to backup bookmarks (even extensions, passwords, cookies, etc.) without contacting Google's (or anyone else's) servers? Use this.
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2109/ - Protoss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I use this too. Worked great when I dual booted between linux and windows.
- Ltgeo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Digg down, I should read further in future...
- zackkitzmiller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3google browser sync
- saggygrandma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i just store my bookmarks on a network drive at work and tell each browser to point to that file in about:config
- mabhatter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I use Bookmark Sync and Sort.... it's not another dot.bomb trying to sell your info.
It doesn't require anything accept a WebDAV or FTP address to host the file. That may be a deal breaker for syncing remote computers, like between work and home. But for home PC's is a 100% no third party way to do it. It works great between multiple OS on one machine or many... you just have to check all the boxes to download FIRST and then add the new links each session. I've used it disconnected for a week and it syncs right back up when you have FTP going again. - bewareofcabbage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Google Browser Sync is fine - if you don't have two computers logged into the account at the same time, at which point one of you will be disconnected (unless they've changed this). That's no good for me - I often have my laptop and desktop running side by side and want bookmarks to seamlessly sync between the two - and Foxmarks does this perfectly, very handy at work too where I don't want my personal and work related bookmarks to co-mingle - but I can access them via the Foxmarks website if need be.
- itanshi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2367/ https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2469/
i prefer these,, foxmarks and more so google sync always took up too many resources and prompted me too often - Tanath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Wish I knew it existed. You'd think that a company with such heavy ties to advertising would show their products more often."
When they do, they get bitched at. Go figure. - budlight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I use google browser sync too, mainly because I figure they basically already have all the data that is being stored... I am waring of other people storing all this information about me, but when its google what can you do? They were going to have all that info anyway!
- Romanito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I personally use this little PHP script to store my bookmarks on my own server.
Plus it doesn't need a Firefox extension.
http://wistinga.online.fr/liboom/ - PeteLP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've been using Google browser sync for quite some time, and I've found that my bookmarks frequently get out of sync and cannot be fixed without a full resync. Which loses bookmarks.
I too like GBS's history, cache and passwords, but for bookmarks I prefer Foxmarks ability to upload-all, download-all, sync all computers simultaneously, and allow me to access all of my bookmarks from any internet cafe machine.
I'll be trying foxmarks, while keeping GBS for history and passwords but with sync bookmarks turned off in GBS. - ElizabethReed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, the Google Sync is best. You do need a gmail account, though.
As for a "custom homepage" - I also use one and is fine for local storage and in fact, I usually upload it to whatever ISP webspace i currently have access to. But browser bookmarks are easier to deal with across multiple machines/systems. Drag & drop to toolbar or Ctrl-D is much easier than editing a homepage, whether stored locally or on a server. - sampun00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2agreed!
I have tried numerous del.icio.us plugins but not satisfied.
Google bookmarks + gmarks is a great combination. It's lightning fast, and it supports NESTED folder(aka tags), which no del.icio.us plugin can offer.
I also used foxmarks for sync my firefox bookmarks at school and at home. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5The bad thing about google browser sync is that if you delete or move bookmarks around, you end up with duplicates and it screws up the workings of it.
Foxmarks is superior for this reason. - hotpepper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I love this. Especially since it does more than bookmarks. It comes in so handy that my history and cookies are the same at work and home. It don't use it as much for bookmarks since I use del.icio.us for my bookmarks.
- zmigliozzi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2been using that for awhile, love it.
- DarknessGP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2or you could use portableapps Firefox. either on a jump drive or network drive - http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable it's what I use. And it'll keep all your extensions and everything, since it's just a portable version of Firefox.
- richbl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Great extension... but I side-step the use of Foxmarks site, and use my own FTP server (check out Advanced Server Settings on the Other tab). Works great and don't have to wonder where or how my bookmarks are getting used or abused.
- ziruzhu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Foxmarks is nice, and I've been using it for months. In terms of mere bookmark synchronization, I would rate Foxmarks over Google Browser Sync. The old GBS is kind of buggy in dealing with bookmarks with smart keywords (not sure if the current version solve it), merging, and a few other places. Of course, if you want to synchronize stuffs other than bookmarks (say history, caches, passwords, sessions, etc), GBS is a better option for sure.
- aacidusX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i rather use Google Browser Sync, it can do bookmarks, tabs, windows, history, etc.
http://www.google.com/tools/firefox/browsersync/ - unrealmp3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Personally, I use the Google Favorites, and use tags to do differents RSS feeds. Each time I launch Firefox, it fetch my RSS feeds with my Favorites from any computer configured with it.
- xptweakerntn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1google browser sink is awsome, and the option you are looking for is tools/preferences, or edit preferences for linux. then, where it asks you what you want to do when firefox starts, select open homepage, not reopen tabs. i use google browser sync and i never see the message you are talking about.
- offwhite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Or you could use LinkMindr.com. I created it to share my links across computers. It has multiple RSS feeds for your links which you can use as Live Bookmarks in Firefox. It also have an OPML export feature so you could use the list of links for another purpose, or to just create your own backup copy.
http://brennan.offwhite.net/blog/2007/01/11/linkmindrcom-my-web-20-website/ - ottodv, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sure you can keep individual bookmarks private on del.icio.us, you need to add the option and tick it each time you add a bookmark. With Foxmarks it's automatically private. Another thing with Foxmarks is that you always have a local copy of your bookmarks on your own computers. Not everybody may care for those things, but I do. Not that there's anything wrong with del.icio.us either, it's just different (which is all I was saying in the first place).
- pimpdad82, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Been using this for months now. It works flawlessly! I highly recommend it.
- andrews240, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've been using this extension for some time now. Couldn't imagine life without it!
- jonnyboy88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I use Google Browser Sync also. My only problem with it is that sometimes you end up with two bookmarks toolbar folders when you download your bookmarks for the first time and you have to move your bookmarks into the real folder to have them appear on the toolbar.
- Pootle4rthur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm not sure I want my work firefox bookmarks populated with the things I look at when I'm at home.
Actually, the more I think about it the more sure I am that it would quickly get me new job hunting -
