- gllopc, on 04/17/2009, -21/+155Windows fanboys - watch the video on Tweetie for the Mac, and then please answer this question: Do you not see a difference between this and the average Windows app?
I'm not saying that it's impossible for a Windows app to look nice. There are plenty, especially with the Aero interface. But this nice look is a common among Mac apps.
I'm not stating that the Mac can play Crysis better than a PC, or that the Mac doesn't have other flaws.
(I'll no doubt be buried - but I thought it couldn't hurt to take a poll) - qeek, on 04/17/2009, -6/+98I feel sorry for Twitterrific... Tweetie is going to kill it, just like it did on the iPhone.
- Antialias, on 04/17/2009, -17/+106I don't mean to start a flamewar but I just thought I would point out that fantastic apps like this are why I enjoy using my Mac so much. It is applications like this(there are hundreds of free and cheap apps of this or even better quality for OSX). I just felt that many PC applications didn't take the time to really polish their interfaces and make things usable. It is something that people often don't consider in the "Macs are more expensive" discussion. With Vista and Windows 7 having 3d acceleration and effects some of the windows developers are catching up though.
With that said, use whatever platform suites you best! - ortnerseb, on 04/17/2009, -8/+58If this is as light-weight as Twitterific (no dock-icon, low CPU load), I'm looking forward to getting my new twitter client.
- themadhatter444, on 04/17/2009, -15/+63Here come the "Twitter is useless - Have fun talking to noone - Micro blogs are gay - Get your Twitter off my Digg" comments. Yay!
- Gee1004, on 04/17/2009, -60/+100***** Windows
- FiendishMuffin, on 04/17/2009, -3/+42Brad Sucks isn't half bad...
- StuartGibson, on 06/14/2009, -0/+35Running beta 3 of Tweetie desktop here, load peaks at just over 3% when refreshing accounts and is sitting at 0 when idle. Memory usage is 32Mb.
It is awesome BTW. - 1nhuman, on 04/17/2009, -5/+37You are totally right. But you won't convince anti-Mac people. They usually believe the opposite, that having a Mac means less software of less quality, but more expensive.
I use both Vista and Macs extensively (among others), but the quality in terms of usability and productivity of Mac software is miles ahead of anything else. It feels like Mac developers have more pride in their work or something or more fun. I dunno. - chrisblau, on 04/17/2009, -6/+33Is that the best icon they could come up with?
- inactive, on 04/18/2009, -5/+28***** Twitter.
- sdenike, on 04/17/2009, -16/+36I wish it was avail for Windows/Linux as well. Tweetie is the Best Twitter iPhone app hands down, would love to see it on all platforms.
- dizavin, on 04/18/2009, -1/+19uh... your bashing the quicktime requirement on a video demonstrating an application that's only going to be released for the Mac?
ummm.... - RandyGandy, on 04/17/2009, -0/+18a grey one
- lilykhanom, on 04/17/2009, -2/+19Yo dawg, I head you like jelly so we put gloss over your jelly so you can bounce while you shiny.
- Bkkgnar, on 04/18/2009, -10/+25Because Windows is buggy, unstable, malware ridden, ugly, and unintuitive.
- Appleologist, on 04/18/2009, -0/+15No dock icon doesn't mean light-weight.
- wordarc, on 04/17/2009, -1/+14Yo dawg, I heard you like GUI so we made your GUI gooey so you can google gooey on your GUI.
- or3n, on 04/17/2009, -0/+13i thought it was Beck at first :O
- Laughto, on 04/17/2009, -4/+16He said "of this or even better quality". Not apps that look like this: http://justaddwater.dk/wp-content/uploads/2006/12/ ...
- dnite, on 04/17/2009, -1/+13What I've heard is it's going to be like Twitterific.. A free ad-supported version and then you can pay $15 for an ad-free version. Sounds good to me! x=)
- SugarRay, on 04/17/2009, -0/+12Sounds like your hemorrhoids are flaring up a bit.
People have said the same thing about every single online social networking platform since its inception. Including Digg. - Flinty, on 04/17/2009, -3/+15Check out Blu... uses the WPF on Vista and XP > http://www.thirteen23.com/experiences/desktop/blu/

- chedabob, on 04/18/2009, -0/+10@sodoh
To be fair, Microsoft did publish a set of guidelines for how to design a proper UI, but most developers ignored them and instead wrote shoddy systems that ignore your system theme, hog resources, and do loads of unnecessary crap. - amerz, on 04/17/2009, -7/+17How much are they going to sell this for? If it's free I'll ***** my pants. Looks amazing!
- dual, on 04/17/2009, -0/+9Quite possibly. Though I think Twitterrific on Mac is and will remain rather unique. It’s just so simple! So some people will still use it, out of preference.
- amsoell, on 04/20/2009, -0/+8Two versions: Free and ad-supported, or $15 with no ads.
http://www.macworld.com/article/140076/2009/04/twe ... - Flinty, on 04/17/2009, -0/+8Probably never.
- gllopc, on 04/17/2009, -3/+10@Flinty: You know, I saw that once before, and you're right, that does look nice. It's just a shame that that level of interface aesthetics is uncommon in Windows apps.
I think a difference, though, is that it still shows a lack of fluidity that is evident on the Mac. Things still seem a bit jerky, while other things are pretty smooth; where on the Mac it's always smooth.
Here's a video of Blu in use. The commentary is annoying, but it gives you a nice idea of what it looks like:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0r0mrhM-X8 - batTUrd, on 04/18/2009, -0/+7If it doesn't, you can hide the dock icon by adding:
<KEY>NSUIElement</KEY>
<STRING>1</STRING>
to the app's info.plist file (found by right clicking the app, "Show Package Contents" and it should be in the Contents folder).
This should work for any app too.
Reverse it by changing the 1 to a 0. - darkane, on 04/18/2009, -0/+7Very smart. They will get a lot of people paying $15 for this.
- deadbaby, on 04/18/2009, -2/+9QuickTime comes with every Mac? Not much sense in watching the video if you don't own a Mac
- TVarmy, on 04/18/2009, -1/+7Apple also sets out UI standards that it encourages developers to follow, and Apple fans tend to hold developers to the standards. This makes the apps easy to learn and they tend to look consistent with other apps. Of course, a good developer will also know when to break the rules, as well, and it's not like Apple tyrannically fights apps that don't follow the standard.
http://developer.apple.com/documentation/userexper ... - Gareth321, on 04/18/2009, -2/+8Doesn't this always boil down to personal preference? The whole "war" is propagated by 12 year old trolls that have nothing better to do.
- pradaaddict, on 04/17/2009, -2/+8Any word on how much it will cost if anything? Tweetie for iPhone is easily my most used app, well worth the $3
- dnite, on 04/17/2009, -1/+7I'm at my computer for a large portion of the day, so instant (nearly) updates on those who I follow is pretty nice. With growl on my mac, they pop up pretty non-intrusively so I can always see what's going on without really interrupting what I'm doing. I find both mobile and desktop forms useful. But I update more than I read on m iPhone.
- Zorkon, on 04/17/2009, -2/+8Lol!
You know, I'd take your criticism of the Mac UI much more seriously if it weren't for the fact that nearly every single open source GUI developer has been taking design cues from Apple and Mac applications for the past few years.
KDE 4.2.0: Glossy windows? Check! http://www.kde.org/announcements/4.2/index.php
"Gnome Do": A clone of Quicksilver for OS X. Check!

Songbird: Hey, it looks like iTunes, but it's open source! Check!

Ubuntu 9.04: hey, is there a little bit of gloss sneaking into that brown theme? Why, yes there is! http://www.softsailor.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/ ...
And the less that is said about Glossy Vista / Windows 7, the better.
Face it, for better or for worse, GUI developers are moving towards gloss and/or getting design cues from OS X. It's not just an Apple-specific thing. - norbiu, on 04/17/2009, -4/+9Does it come with friends?
- OneManArmy, on 04/17/2009, -0/+5you forgot to mention: a resource hog and no native integration with the desktop.
- lazybearkhoa, on 04/17/2009, -0/+4Can't wait until monday! The iPhone app is amazing and the mac app looks just as amazing.
- Flyer00, on 04/18/2009, -0/+5Maybe you should ***** your pants now, so it has a better chance of being free. ;)
- roostersheep, on 04/17/2009, -1/+6Losers? *****! Well I want to be cool so I'd better give this one a miss!
- ImTakiNuSRS, on 04/17/2009, -0/+5Brad Sucks is the antipode of his own name.
- masonga95, on 04/18/2009, -0/+5This application has probably been coded in pure Objective-C+Cocoa.
Porting that to Windows would be a bitch. - scarz99, on 04/18/2009, -0/+5I just like the sound effect....
- eadnams, on 04/18/2009, -4/+9got me my job, and I've seen it save lives (tweeting out tornado shelters), and find kidnapped children. It's a platform, and is what you make of it, what you use it for.
- scarz99, on 04/18/2009, -1/+5I think someone from the Iconfactory needs to step in and lend a hand.
- seinman, on 04/18/2009, -0/+4I'm in that boat. I use Twitterrific, and I don't think I'll change that any time soon. It's simple, it's small, and it does exactly what I need it to do without cluttering up the interface with things I don't need it to do. It's perfect.
- MilitantRabbit, on 04/17/2009, -0/+4This client looks cool. TweetDeck's too cluttered and ugly for me. Twhirl is an improvement over that, but still not what I'm looking for. Nambu's a good interim client.
