- FBMGriever, on 10/12/2007, -12/+97Those of us who wish to support the developers. Believe it or not, that is a very large community...
Awesome update. Dugg. - Skates, on 10/14/2007, -7/+56Cannot wait, awesome update!
- ankyhbk, on 11/04/2007, -36/+73ha! who pays for trillian?
- Madh2orat, on 10/12/2007, -6/+42Heavensblade23 "I paid for Trillian Pro, and have never encountered ANY bugs."
Obviously you dont use the msn messenger part. - heavensblade23, on 10/12/2007, -18/+49I paid for Trillian Pro, and have never encountered ANY bugs.
- rkuchiki, on 10/12/2007, -7/+36Why did they wait until our paid "free upgrades" expired? Heh.
- rpdillon, on 10/12/2007, -4/+24They say it is the universal instant messenger. Besides supporting lots of chat services, will it support Linux and Mac? If not, I'd hardly say it is "universal". I'd like to say I'm excited, but I don't run Windows and I fear it won't run anywhere else...
- crash331, on 10/12/2007, -7/+24That's all fine and dandy (I use Trillian 3.1) but all of those features are pretty much useless unless everyone else uses Trillian, which they don't, and won't as long as it isn't free.
- heavensblade23, on 10/12/2007, -5/+22Actually, you're right, I only use the AIM, IRC, and occasionally Yahoo parts. I take it MSN is buggy?
- Roger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16"No clutter, all platforms (if compiled for some), and open source"
Those don't make it a better IM client. If you read TFA you'd see this new Trillian has ton's more features than GAIM, and it even accommodates the minimalists.
I'm a Miranda fanboy myself, but the new Trillian might make me switch. - Protoss, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17It does say something about their IMCore being able to compile on OSX and Linux...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+20Finally! They are sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo lip tight on updates....
Oh well, when they do say something it usually turns out to be great.
Trillian + Firefox = Internet at it's Best - exsst, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14SpazticChips - Even though I love gaim, it doesn't do the job well.
It does the job of IM'ing which if that's all you want then fine, but it's awful at the whole 'webcam/microphone/msn photo share/games/ etc'
If your girlfriend wants to show you her webcam, maybe give you a strip-tease, you'd better have windows messenger at the ready because otherwise you'd be *****, actually no, I take that back, you wouldn't be ***** at all... ;) .. and that's why, Gaim doesn't do the job and trillian does. - Jaq524, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Ugh. Get off my internet, spammer!
- SpazticChips, on 10/12/2007, -18/+31GAIM is a better Instant Messenger, no clutter, all platforms (if compiled for some), and open source. Try it out if you havn't.
- cbdgr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14would have been nice a year or 2 ago
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Read the large yellow tag "Trillian Astra is a work in progress!"
- pbeesley1989, on 10/12/2007, -8/+20Trillian is back. Awesome.
- Haplo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9IMCore Statistics
* IMCore compiles natively on Win32, Linux, and OSX.
* Currently, all Cerulean-developed network plugins are powered by IMCore. Which means they all compile on Linux and OSX. Which means... :)
http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/ap/index.php?area=interop - ScrabbyDoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I was thinking exactly the same thing. Really looked hard for any sort of compelling new "feature" and all I could find was the clock to the local time of chat partner.
Otherwise its all fluff especially realizing that few you chat to are going to use trillian too. I couldn't see anything practical that would entice me away from gaim or plain vanilla msn messenger. - Securityguru, on 10/12/2007, -12/+20This will change the instant messaging world for a while:)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Yeah. Why the ***** not?
- BossX, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Miranda is where it's at.. smallest footprint too
- n0sferatu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8You only have to pay $5 to get 1/5th of a year membership which includes all the updates released during that time. So if you want you can wait until the release version of Trillian Astra is out, pay $5 and download it. When your membership expires you can continue using Trillian Astra as long as you want.
Cerulean Studios has a horrible reputation for keeping their customers involved in the development of Trillian. However, I still believe the product is good enough and used often enough to warrant $5. - evilpig, on 10/12/2007, -7/+15Digg is mentioned on this page. :)

Bet this'd use a ton of memory? Did you RTFA? It says they cut down on memory use from Trillian 3 Pro dramatically. The majority of the improvements to the client are on the back-end. - TalenKlaive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10@Madh2orat
I actually use all the clients, AIM, Yahoo, IRC, ICQ, MSN, and GoogleTalk. I've actually got several names logged in under MSN and AIM. I've never had any problems with it crashing. Ever. The problems come from the nasty skins that people write and dont bother to test extensively enough, and also from 3rd party plugins that suck in general. The core of trillian pro is rock solid stable. - windwaker, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11When is this coming out?
- gotamd, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11There's always been a free version which has all the functionality you really need. To stiff small-time developers out of $25 (or $5 if you bought it before) is disgusting. You can't even use the argument that you hardly ever use the program like you can with apps like Vegas and Photoshop.
- sctechguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6That's like comparing apples and oranges...Meebo is web-based only. I'll point out, too, that I use both Meebo, and Trillian. I use Meebo when I'm somewhere where I either can't, or don't want to install Trillian.
- G33k0ft3chz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9I would say Adium is basically Mac OS X's own Trillian, but I would like Trillian on the Mac and on Linux distros.
- charmedguy18, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Love Meebo. But that's for when you're on other computers...
- halikar, on 10/12/2007, -7/+13I'll stick with Miranda-IM. After Cerulean gyped me out of a whole year of PAID support by changing their terms of service right after I paid, I don't have a lot of incentive to support them again.
- gotamd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Trillian is free! The only thing you don't get with the free version is plugin support (currently). Why don't people understand that?
- Cykaos, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5there are several file download bugs in trillian, and the video and audio chat sucks really bad, but other than that trillian is awesome
- Haplo, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12"ha! who pays for trillian?"
I did, and maybe will do it again. - dnite, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I also paid for Trillian Pro. I'm a Linux user now, but when I use Windows, Trillian works great for me. I don't know where all these 'bugs' are. I do think Trillian was long over due for a major update and I'm glad they are not planning on disappointing with this one. I may even install windows on a machine somewhere just to play around with it. x=)
- Cole2026, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5So we shouldn't like it because you only use Yahoo Messenger? * rolls eyes *
- Space_Balls, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5since when has that ever stopped anyone from releasing?
- iAlex, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Bad argument. "Get Adium." Well I like Adium. But I want this app on the Mac platform.
- elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10The biggest reason that I switched to GAIM was that Trillian took too long to start up, and while it started up, it had that annoying splash screen that you couldn't get rid of. GAIM takes 1/10th of the time to start up, and is in no way obtrusive.
(Also, Trillian hogged my resources like crazy). - riplikethat, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10Instead of that retarded flash presentation, just skip to their 'features' page here > http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/ap/index.php?area=performance
Oh, and most features actually look like bug fixes.. but some will disagree. Either way, I have tries to use Trillian one year after another, and Gaim always manages to stay ahead with clean interface and better features. I don't want my IM to look like iPod, I am happy with what Gaim gives, and features are more than enough.. for now.. plus I ain't paying nothing for an IM (like Trillian Pro requires), so I am gonna try this one through torrents, though from what I have seen, I doubt it I will give up Gaim for this.
Oh and the descriptions under the so called 'features' (bug fixes) just scream "WE WILL CHARGE YOU MORE FOR THIS".. - PhillyMJS, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Wow, good timing. Someone just nominated Trillian for a Wired Vaporware award last week.
http://blog.wired.com/monkeybites/2006/11/2006_vaporware_.html
~Philly - GuyHitByTruck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It was bloated enough in v3.1, and now they want to add more stuff to it? Honestly, I don't see how this is revolutionary. It's still instant messaging, with another profile to keep up with.
- AlexMax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I had considered switching to GAIM for months, hoping that it fixed the bugs associated with Windows GTK 2.8. Too late now, because in that time Trillian has proven itself a worthy application for my desktop, because considering all its glitz, it's responsive as hell and isn't a memory hog. And sorry, I'm not downgrading to ass-ugly GTK 2.6 just to satisfy one piece of software when I already have 2.8 working beautifully with GIMP and X-Chat.
I do miss buddy pounces though...but only occationally. - charmedguy18, on 10/12/2007, -0/+41. does it do web cam?
2. does it have every feature that all the other IMs have?
3. Is it a memory hog?
Those are my top questions. Then I may switch from using three at the time, to Trillion. Which, might I add, is pretty hot to look at. - kodek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Well, obviously. You wouldn't be able to run it!
- meepus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I know tons of people that use trillian, and most got it for free O.o
- Arctirus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5ty, I detest flash.
