- JohnClay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+84It should be noted that Transmission 0.70 has fixed the issues for which it was banned on many trackers.
- jahpraiseherb, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30woohoo!
take that xtorrent! - softwareelves, on 10/12/2007, -1/+28Mac OSX Bittorrent done simple and easy. Congrats on this long awaited release, and all your hard work Transmission Crew!
- jas8522, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27Best torrent application for the mac in existence and I've heard it works great on BeOS, Linux and *BSD as well! Downloading torrents should get even better when trackers unban it for proper compliance...
Here's to hoping for a great 0.8 release with some features like PE/MSE and/or selective file downloading. - sinembarg0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22It's just eyes. Never use an apostrophe to indicate plurality.
- rspeed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17I honestly don't see any reason to use XTorrent instead of Transmission. The search is nice, but not incredible. I'll take open source freeware over monolithic activation-crippled shareware any day.
- TomFrost, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16The lack of selective downloading and file prioritizing are the only two things keeping me from wiping Azureus off of my mac. Far too often, I download an entire season of a TV series, and I want to stop the episodes I already have from downloading, and get the first few episodes first so I can start watching.
Three cheers to the Transmission team for the phenomenal release, however! Here's hoping the future gives us at least those two features ;-)
(ok, and maybe RSS-based downloading, and transport encryption.. but selective downloading is key) - darkamster07, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12everything
- RexMaxus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Don't worry, I did it for you.
- TomFrost, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11For the record, I have a torrent coming in at 310kb/s, upload capped at 60kb/s, running full tilt.
Transmission is using between 2-4% of my processor, and 36 MB of RAM. That is a feat worth celebrating, in a client that's this slick :). Way to go, Transmission team! - jhunt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Stops ISPs from throttling traffic.
With my ISP, without encryption I upload at a maximum of 40KB/s, while with encryption I upload at a max of around 120KB/s. And this is on the upgraded 10Mbps down/1Mbps up plan. It's even worse on the lower tier 512Kbps up plan, uploading at around 15KB/s unencrypted and 60KB/s encrypted. - Kzelk4, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Awesome client. Thanks devs
- Lounger540, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I'm with TomFrost,
Selective downloading with priorities, and transport encryption. Then I can dump the resource hog known as Azureus. - neckaros, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Best torrent client for mac, especially when coupled with "TVShow" that download show automatically as they are released
http://tvshows.sourceforge.net/ - aprocter, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Sorry to hijack, but where can I donate to the developers of Transmission. It's one of my favourite free mac apps, I wanna give back.
- NoOneButMe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Since XTorrent uses libtransmission, 2:1 odds there will be an 'update' to it sometime in the next week or so that fixes problems that it has as well
- StarManta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7The only problem I had had with transmission was the lack of queue support, but now they have it. As icing on the cake, my torrents are now going about 6 times faster than they did before (probably the automatic port mapping), and the interface is neater. I'd digg this twice if I could.
- turpenine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7well, i'm glade too.
- fowleryo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8still banned at oink... hopefully they lift it pretty soon.
- StarManta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8And yet, Watanabe will still be charging money for an inferior program.
Go figure. - gharding, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Is Oink included in this? Man I hope so.. so sick of Azureus.
- redrabbit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Best Mac torrent client...unfortunately, the only client on the mac to have transport encryption is azureus. As soon as Transmission has it (or I move off-campus, where I can only torrent through encryption), I'll switch.
- feverfive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Just switched to Mac a month or so ago... Give me transport encryption, and I'll dump Azureus in favor of Transmission....man, I miss µtorrent since my switch from Windows...
- gharding, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7@dameetch:
It had a max interval of 5 minutes to ping a tracker (lots of high-traffic trackers want 30 minutes or so), and there was something else.. like it would send too many packets or something to clients. I forget. - arhida, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7It's been a long time coming and hopefully most trackers will acknowledge the fixes and remove the bans on the client.
- rspeed, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9@fakeplasticsnow
o_O Did... did you see the old one? - d3designs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Just in case someone does mirror it, here is the MD5 hash from the official download:
Transmission-0.7.dmg = d7d93caedc16e795d2cc6979b996b810 - astrosmash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6BeOS pr0n.
- dameetch, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8what issues made had it banned before?
- overloadgimpy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5yes, however, utorrent == winblows.
transmission == mac, linux, beos - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I've been using the nightly builds for a while, this app has come along very nicely on both Linux and Mac. Kudos to all the developers.
- tazx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Seriously fantastic; best torrent client on the Mac, and free, unlike XTorrent.
- willgonz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This program rocks on my MacBook Pro. I'm going to and use it with that program that watches torrents for your favorite shows and automatically downloads them.
- esquilax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5not generally, no. but what it can do is circumvent some ISPs' throttling bittorrent traffic.
- gutistg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5YOU can't.
- JohnClay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5___
- wiihuck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5he said mac.
- spargett, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6***** yeah. Be gone java hacker clients.
- andrewguy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@ neckaros: agreed.. Transmission + TVShows 0.3 (just came out btw) http://tvshows.sourceforge.net/ are great. Also to the guys that made Transmission..Great job on all your hard work this app is one of my favs.. up there with adium.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7You want an account .. yet you dont know what's special about it.
Good luck with that. - stalefries, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4JohnClay: well said.
- brightscreamer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5What's the encryption for? Will it prevent you from getting sued? (Serious question.)
- jhunt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4No encryption :(
Guess I'm sticking with rTorrent. - c0ldfusi0n, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Finally.
/kicks kTorrent and Wined uTorrent out. - bmxboy661, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I agree
its like what utorrent used to be.
best Mac torrent client by far. - elpepe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Early reaction at some of the private trackers has been 'we dont care' -- not a good sign
- jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4He charges money for a different User Interface, fans of his newsfire program probably think its worth the money to pay for free software.
- turpenine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3make a feed from tvtorrents and use that. not hard, use google.
- jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7uTorrent is better software but it isn't open source and it is now owned by the Bit Torrent company itself making its future as a consumer friendly product uncertain. Transmission is Open Source! This software is invaluable because its a C client programmed well and platform agnostic, hopefully the developers keep their great work up and we get a Win32 client in the future.
- majorp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3yeah, i think maybe he did that yesterday, build 40
