- MatttK, on 10/11/2007, -0/+21Ew... HTML Box sounds like it should be called MySpaceifier.
- butbutz, on 10/11/2007, -2/+16The most useful facebook app is the LOLcats one, by far.
- FadieZ, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12Yes, the html box scared the crap out of me when I saw it. Facebook is looking more and more like Myspace by the day. I really do miss the old Facebook.
P.S. Please stop sending me ***** horoscope invitations - splammo, on 10/11/2007, -5/+16It is unfortunate that they added these apps to facebook in a completely uncontrolled manner. I think it ruined facebook, now facebook is just a huge collection of poorly made crap.
- askinner, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11Dugg for the Carpool (http://apps.facebook.com/carpool/) mention. Definitely one of few really useful apps on Facebook in my opinion, and the article is right that the more people that use it the better it gets. Help me out by upping the east coast presence.
- MasterThief117, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9The HTML thing is going to end up being the death of facebook.
- newbert, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7A couple of weeks ago there was a headline "The First Useful Facebook App"...it's good to see that there are a few more now
- BlinderBomber, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I don't think so. Apps are pretty great for the most part. (the HTML box sounds like a crappy idea). The others are easy to ignore, allow for more functionality than facebook could ever hope for and, generally, preserve the clean lines that has made facebook so popular.
- Spikeli27, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4why would you need any of this crap for facebook?
- vann, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Most excellent list. We're only just seeing the beginning of social apps on Facebook. Right now most of them are crap because people are still focused on the MySpace-style profile bling, but better and better apps are appearing every day as people realize the potential of the platform.
Some sites like Appaholic -- http://appaholic.com -- have even gone meta, tracking Facebook applications themselves. - CrimsonBlur, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3The MySpace-style apps will eventually fade away and be replaced by the truly great apps, like the ones on this list. Right now a lot of the apps are just MySpace copies because that's all people could think to do at first, but now real developers are starting to do some exciting things with the platform.
The only one on this list that I think is a mistake is the HTML Box app. That is exactly the kind of application that should be banned on Facebook. If that became popular, it would signal the downfall of Facebook unless it was removed. - bowe, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Incredibly sick of facebook. agree/disagree ?
When it was a simple site, with a single page for everyone, it was cool. As soon as they added groups and messaging you could tell they were heading towards feature overload. I don't want a single portal to all things in my life. I just want a damn profile.
The fact that they page layouts are better than myspace only goes so far. Between digg, google, and facebook i've seen enough blue and white pages to last a lifetime. It's okay to be creative - miriclaire, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Maybe because we do not have faith in your ability to read, write or understand the english language. ***** off, spammer.
- chicoer2001, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3I like the NES app
- doshindude, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2HTML box - NOT GOOD. NOT GOOD.
PLEASE don't make FB like Myspace. - vann, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Right now people are making MySpace-style profile bling widgets and calling them "apps" because that's all anyone knows. But look at those apps and tell me they're "just" MySpace-style widgets. Some have truly social components.
The platform is still young and it will only get better with time. - BevansDesign, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1No "My Aquarium"? Buried as inaccurate. (just kidding)
Another RSS app on Facebook is called FeedBurner. Once you actually get it set up (it's very buggy) it works pretty flawlessly. It's pretty barebones though. I use it to display my Dugg feeds. - emiles, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Of course, these are all optional, so you can still keep your own profile looking good.
- Gooooogler, on 11/02/2009, -0/+1One of the best applications for Facebook is the Last Pass password manager which can prevent login problems of any kind. More information at http://www.ghacks.net/2009/10/17/facebook-login/
- anatolyl, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Well if you talk about utilities need to mention desktop apps for Facebook rather than Myspace style widgets.
- john2kx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1you don't really "need" anything on the internet.
- WhittierPoet, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Corrected link: http://apps.facebook.com/carpool/
- CaptainBlastoid, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1These apps are great, because I've been wondering for years what my college classmates thought about Iran. Now, not only can I read their opinion on all the hottest news stories coming out of the Middle East with "NewsCloud," but I can do it while being solicited for money from frats for their jello wrestling keggers with "ChipIn."
- sgarciaDev, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1i really like the music videos app:
http://apps.facebook.com/yahoomusicvideos/ - mcoticch, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1How about 10 least crappy Facebook apps? That makes more sense
- miriclaire, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I honestly have no idea how this ended up here twice.
- invinciblenow, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I disagree with this list, clearly the best app is Beer.
http://www.bestfacebookapplications.com/2007/07/01/beeeeeeeer-facebook-application/ - infoshowzen, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Check out Jobs http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?api_key=2ef3f8cc5320897be6432956cc6213dc
1300+ users and growing. The only place on Facebook to search your friends for jobs.
Thanks - timdorr, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I'm more pissed that they used my idea (http://apps.facebook.com/yspace/) and then spammed my app's wall claiming they were the original. YourSpace (then FaceSpace) was up before noon the day after f8 was released.
- miriclaire, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Well, the "food fight" app isn't there! And I thought getting hit by an e-pizza was fun! Facebook is getting silly.

- thedarkrabbit, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Myspace has taken over facebook. Stalkers... Your day has come.

- KillMyGPA, on 10/11/2007, -2/+0Dugg for college.
- ectocooler, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1the current state of facebook (a complete dump, overrun by trashy apps), is a perfect example of why allowing 3rd party apps on the iphone is a bad idea and WILL cheapen the experience.
facebook apps are killing facebook.
