The world’s only ‘on-the-fly’ free translation service tool
verbatimsolutions.com — Forget Babelfish - this is the best one I have used yet. Translates in real-time on a per-word basis as fast as your text is entered. You can also put in up to 2000 characters at once.
- 1456 diggs
- digg it
- sirdaz, on 10/11/2007, -4/+108If its the digg effect or something else I don't know, but over a minute later and I don't see my translation. Not very instant.
- skored, on 10/11/2007, -5/+1Just checked it again and its working fine for me, maybe there was an issue before...
- vic42482, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1Works for me. English to Russian seems pretty good. It's not perfect of course, but pretty close - especially one word at a time.
- jmeeter, on 10/11/2007, -2/+17I'm definitely experiencing the Digg effect. This thing isn't working worth a *******.
- jezmck, on 10/11/2007, -9/+3In future, if you can't comment with out needless swearing, don't bother.
- jmeeter, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1What? Hahahaha. Grow up.
- JiriKafka, on 10/11/2007, -2/+0haha, only person who needs to grow up is you, moron
- jezmck, on 10/11/2007, -9/+3In future, if you can't comment with out needless swearing, don't bother.
- oxdeltaxo, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12Yeah mine can't get past 4 words without halting and giving a blank result.
- rjam710, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I've always used freetranslation.com for my translations. It's how I got through sophomore French in high school.
Also, there's a lot of these free translation sites, I don't really see anything too special about this one. - st0nes, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Wrote a simple sentence to translate into French. It gets as far as "bonjour" then stops. Not useful.
- PJBonoVox, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Was the sentence 'Hello' by any chance? :)
- nobody554, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1or even, "Hello, World!"
- PJBonoVox, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Was the sentence 'Hello' by any chance? :)
- iGadget, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Mine doesn't work too. no answer from the server in step 3...
Maybe a browser prob? (me: FFox 2, XP) or maybe because I pasted the text into it? - brundlefly76, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Its very buggy.
- barnis, on 10/11/2007, -4/+24yeah mine is just spinning the little ajax-esque thing and doing nothing
- Jonty, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I think it crashes as soon as you put in an unrecognised word.
- jobenly, on 10/11/2007, -6/+30It's better than Babelfish, but the translation is still lacking a lot. Example:
me: I haven't taken Spanish in ten years.
Spanish translation: No he tomado a españoles por diez años.- capiCrimm, on 10/11/2007, -6/+8since I don't speak spanish that translation seems fine. Maybe next time try translating from Spanish to English?
- iamnotrich, on 10/11/2007, -0/+25No he tomado a españoles por diez años. = I haven't taken any Spaniards for ten years
- ours, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6It's not a super translation but it's sort of understandable. In English that would be "I haven't taken to Spaniards (Spanish people) for 10 years"
- yonas, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It could also mean "I haven't drank to Spanish people in ten years"......it's so funny to see what these translating engines come up with.
- BobDole1216, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12It probably would have worked better if you had said "I haven't studied Spanish in ten years."
- cleverboy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+46There's no translation for poor english.
- Fhwqhgads, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3You're right. It comes up empty when I type "poor english".
- edlowe0, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3I'm pretty sure it should be:
I-o haven't-o taken-o spanish-o in 10 years-o
- capiCrimm, on 10/11/2007, -6/+8since I don't speak spanish that translation seems fine. Maybe next time try translating from Spanish to English?
- patrickchee, on 10/11/2007, -11/+2no problemo over here...thanks for the link! been meaning to write my girl a poem in korean
- resplence, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3Don't forget to share the version translated back to english.
- sneeka2, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6And the story of her running away screaming.
- Sabretou, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2You weird man. Girlfriend weirder man.
- resplence, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3Don't forget to share the version translated back to english.
- stylewarz, on 10/11/2007, -7/+2Very neat. For the mac users there is another solution for "on the fly" translation:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/rakerman/305669437/- silencerider151, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Yeah, it's a great tool. Pressing F12 to go straight to a translator is way faster than opening a new tab in firefox and going to a translation sight.
- Kormiku, on 10/11/2007, -1/+19I wrote in chinese: "Hello, ive missed you. When will we go out to lunch together?"
And this is what it returned to me in english: "You are good, I all thought you, when we have eaten meal"
I dont think it works much better than babelfish or the other translation services, but this one is on-the-fly so it is nice in its own respect.- ApeInago, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2try the original japenese from the all your base quote... i wonder what it gives.
- TheGentleman, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2If you imagine the Chinese accent, I'd say: pretty darn good translation!
- bkemper, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1For those who don't know, "Hello" in Mandarin Chinese is "Ni Hao", which literally translates word-for-word as "You Good". It is short for the more personal "Ni Hao Ma", which is also how you would say "Are you good?". If you wanted to say "You are Good" in Chinese, you would say "Ni Hao", same as "Hello". This illustrates the problem of trying to translate without considering the context.
- wildfire, on 10/11/2007, -4/+45"This text translation tool is the most advanced available today although it's not a certified translation."
Translation: You might be shot if used for war-related activities. - sunimoto, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4"the world's most advanced translation system" died pretty fast. 80 diggs and it's barely working. I don't really see a point in this. The end-result is the same if not worse that babel fish or google translate. The only point in this "on-the-fly"-ness is a cool factor... Nothing can replace human translation, at least for now...
- s4z3n, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2its probably great for translating entire documents but, unless you know the structure of the language you want to translate into, you're gonna be assed-out.
- JohnnyKdiggs, on 10/11/2007, -4/+31I don't know why everyone is saying it doesn't work. It translates English to Mime perfectly.
- m00nmaster, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Mine is doing English to Mute.
- erinspice, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11I typed in "I want to buy a carrot" and it did absolutely nothing. "I am cold" produced the same results.
- EULANr43, on 10/11/2007, -23/+0CHATSTAT.com has been doing this for a little over a year now. ChatStat can translate on the fly between the following systems:
- YOU and your SITE VISITORS
- YOU and all other operators for your site or with whom you are connected
- YOU and any of your friends across seven different IMs including AIM, ICQ, MSN, YAHOO, JABBER, and Skype. And yes, it is also free.

Ich werde diese Aufzeichnung nicht kaufen, es wird gekratzt
- ElKabong61, on 10/11/2007, -5/+5Esto chupa!
- stalefries, on 10/11/2007, -3/+7I sincerely hope that you wrote "This sucks" in the translator, as opposed to you believing that English slang translates correctly.
- cdmarcus, on 10/11/2007, -1/+34http://ajaxtrans.com/
The tool in this article is a complete copy, down to the UI, of AjaxTrans, which was on Digg a while ago. I'd really like to see the originator of this idea get some credit here. I've been using AjaxTrans for a while, I think it uses either BabelFish or Google as a backend, although I haven't checked yet.- wildfire, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4BabelFish is powered by SYSTRAN: http://www.systransoft.com/
Google says it has created it's own software:
"Has Google developed its own translation software? Yes. Google's research group has developed its own statistical translation system for several language pairs now available on Google Translate."
AjaxTrans seems to be using Google though after looking at the HTML source.
- wildfire, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4BabelFish is powered by SYSTRAN: http://www.systransoft.com/
- ren1999, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4It isn't any better than Babel and it stops working frequently. No Diggs.

So this article says ONLY ... and it is not. - RegalGSX, on 10/11/2007, -10/+9I wish it had an ebonics translator. I have no idea what black people are saying.
- ekravchenko, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Has a 2000 character limit and is very buggy...
- andrgo, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2It doesn't know the Deutsch word "gefragt".
- danielman94, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Du hast mich gefragt und ich habe nichts gesagt.
- andrgo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Right on, pretty much sums up a good Rammstein song and the service of this translator thing.
- danielman94, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Du hast mich gefragt und ich habe nichts gesagt.
- 99butcher99, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1dead in the water.

- wildfire, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Schweigermutter?

- iOsiris, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2I tried it with Chinese and Korean and its missing far too many words for it to be actually useful
- spokesandspools, on 05/07/2008, -1/+4i've yet to come across a translator that doesn't suck balls
the speed here offers is useless if the translations are incorrect. buried - drafhk, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3The chinese word for "*****" is not coming up.
- Kormiku, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Chinese word for ***** is "Cao". Pronounced something like tsow. Make the ts noise then ow as in you just got hurt. Tsow

- Kormiku, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Chinese word for ***** is "Cao". Pronounced something like tsow. Make the ts noise then ow as in you just got hurt. Tsow

I don't mean this as spam! I am only trying to inform you that this is not the only solution, and it is certainly not the first. - jull1234, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Getting pretty slow..
- Sheff, on 10/11/2007, -2/+0Doesn't seem to be working for me. Does it do Ebonics and Jive?
- jull1234, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Shut yo mouth, turkey.
- Kyderdog, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Doesn't seem to like the word MONKEY...I mean come on..
- dragonlor20, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2This is actually one of the worst ones I have used in a long time. Half of what I wrote wouldn't show up. German nouns threw the entire thing off. Even simple German phrases weren't being translated into English correctly or accurately. German nouns and pronouns were missing.
I make mistakes in German from time to time, but after 7 years of study I think I have the simple phrases down. ;-)
Buried as inaccurate. - oinkyboinky, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3you're probably better off looking up each separate word in a Spanish/English dictionary :/
- EochaidRiata, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I compared it to worldlingo and it did not do as well with Japanese.
Google announced that they are working on a translation method that actually examines context and phraseology rather than just doing a simple dictionary replacement but I haven't seen anything come out of the labs yet. - nullx42, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Isn't better then babel fish unless you can stick it in your ear.

stupid, innefective, dumb, broken, retarded, *****, or another word which more describes the state of the site might have been better.

- GrassrootsNinja, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I've seen cats that are better at translating into / out of German.
- Pushkin, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Buried as inaccurate. Ajaxtrans (as mentioned by cdmarcus 2 hours ago) seems to be a precursor and actually does something (due to it not being digged?)
- mellomutt, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0typical ajax bug. experience the same with PsychicWhois.com. the first few characters, no problem. then it craps out. i hate when something potentially cool pops up and then sucks absolute donkey eggs. this service, while cool in theory, disappoints in practice. maybe it's the digg effect. doesn't mean it still doesn't blow.
- cdmarcus, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1http://ajaxtrans.com/

- rynTAU, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1dugg down because it can't even translate properly.. "how are you?" does not equal "cómo es usted" in spanish. It's "cómo está usted" .
- KyleGoetz, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1***** sucks. I tried both Japanese->English and Spanish->English. It couldn't even translate こんにちは properly, nor could it translate (with proper Spanish punctuation and accents I don't know how to type without their interface) "Hola. Como estas?"
- aladin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1If only I had known about this when I was taking French 3. I used other translators for a lot of work but they often weren't that reliable. Man that class was brutal.
