- corkster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Augh, looking at all the buttons, the word start has lost all it's meaning.

augh - hater2win, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I actually like some of the older ones better...
- xerox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i like Windows XP Build 2250
- macdaddydwj, on 11/11/2007, -0/+1are you insane... you can't right click on a mac... that's blasphemy
- compugeek2001, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I digg Windows Vista Build 4015. It looks sleek, simple, unique and modern.
- gatorsrule21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1my favorite is Windows Vista Build 4051, but the latest one has some potential
- Axim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yes. yes the start button concept is a very complex metaphor. there are few days when i do not question the deep meaning behind this button, and whether there were not more obvious labels microsoft could have gone with.
- Dash-2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very cool
- disord3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1But the Apple interface doesn't have a start button.
Fail. - shakin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1When my dad upgraded to Windows 95 on the day of its release(486sx 20mhz, 8MB RAM!) I remember him telling me that Windows didn't actually start until you clicked Start. It sounds stupid, but that *is* what the word implies. I'm pretty sure Microsoft's marketing department came up with the marketing campaign (including using Start Me Up) before the button was named. The UI designers must have felt like such tools. No usability expert would say, "let's pretend Windows hasn't started yet even though the users has waited five minutes for it to boot."
- seraphsoul, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The Vista buttons aren't too bad.
- robdixon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like the classic style
even on my xp box its always set to classic windows
not that i love windows of any kind. it just looks better - nomore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You can emulate the start button on a Mac... drag the Applications folder to the dock, then just right-click it... exactly the same as the start menu. But my question would be... why the hell would anyone want to do that?
- generalleoff, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Damn right I use classic CP. I use classic folders in Explorer and classic search as well :)
- Monkeman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like Windows Vista Build 4015
- Tobey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow, corkster was right! After a while it looses it's meaning, and it looks very wierd. I mean "Start", what a word.
- micklerlop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i hate the fact that you have click the start button to shut down you computer. that's stupid. they should just get rid of the start button concept and comeup with soemthing else.
- generalleoff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Server 2003 is also the XP none skinned button. It's the one I use.
- nomore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Let's shutdown the computer... okay, click START. lol
- TargetDog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like 4051. You really don't need the word.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I vote 4051 only with text as some of the copycat themes have. Slate is by far my favorite Windows theme and Whistler is a close second. For some reason they feel the need to replace the good themes with fugly ones for the actual releases :(
- shit, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2>> "Server 2003 is also the XP none skinned button. It's the one I use."
Why don't you have gigantic, colorful, bubbly windows and buttons on your computer? What, do you actually LIKE being able to see the programs you are using? You probably use the classic control panel too, pussy. Whatever, I need to search for a file on my computer now using the help of my trusty animated friend.
Who will it be today, the dog or the wizard.... - wicked9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Agreed 4051 is the best
- m.sandstorm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The Vista beta 1 isn't bad. I kinda like it.
- towle_42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0my fav is Windows Vista Build 4015
- patrickweber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lol, I like Windows XP Build 2257 the best. The Vista ones look nice too.
- Guol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i like the vista beta 4015 one ;)
- fudgebrown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the genius of the Windows GUI. I prefer my Apple logo.
- hypnotiq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yeah...ROFL start lost it's meaning when i was staring at the page. suddenly i was looking at chinese letters and thinking....stttaart...hmmm
start = hey dumbass, click me
anyone who thinks, or thought it meant "start windows" is an idiot. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hasn't Windows 95 died yet, seriosly is there any need for it now? what technologies are there in Windows 95 that we still need?
- thegeekpea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I just change the start button image with TClock. Let's you add any image you want.
- cazoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0its interesting to note that only the vista ones are so varied, they must have been really struggling to find a new look
- IceKnight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this is some pointless sh*t but thats cool for collecting...haha
- ChrisTots, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like how the My Computer icon has been updated for newer systems. First a little CRT, then a big CRT then a LCD.
- YoshoKatana, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't like the XP's green and blue-ness. Either Vista 4015 or the beta are nice. And some n00bs (er..I mean..non computer literate types) need the word "start" to begin using the computer. It is like a sign from the gods!
- thegeekpea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ooops, here's the link.
http://homepage1.nifty.com/kazubon/tclock/ - ppflea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0...4015, all the way!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i prefer the apple user interface over windows, i just think its better laid out than windows.
- Massif, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0As if the word start isn't confusing enough, the tooltip says "Click here to begin"
Begin what?!?
I agree they should get rid of the name "Start" which is why I like Vista 4051 with just the Windows logo. However, I think people have gotten used to having a menu at the lower left corner (or another corner if you dock your taskbar somewhere else). It's the perfect place for it. Why change it now? - DarkSideX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the vista button 4051 without text looks the best
- nickdynamite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Start?
start what? hideous, i say - all of them. - functioncode, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0only noobs need a start button!
- dimplemonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The more things change, the more they stay the same!
- mcbesq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Start.
Start crashing.
Start hogging resources.
Start bloating.
Start leaking memory.
Start BSOD.
Start needing drivers that didn't come with Windows or the OEM.
Start demanding more upgrades.
Start patching.
Start scanning for viruses constantly.
Start having hardware conflicts.
Start needing more power than was used to send man to the moon.
Stop the insanity. - happynothing, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0those are all horrible! i've always hated that goddamn start button.
- leomyhero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0who freakin cares!!!! why is this worth 954 diggs?
- instereo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Beta 1 and 4015 look good. I perfer the classic ui though.
- instereo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0*prefer..
- screwloose45, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1ghey
